HEY Scotty, I need a new engine for my 2012 chevy cruze. Can I get a ATK remanufactured engine? Like for the 1998 thru 2003 chevy Tahoe, suburban ect. The tech said I won't fit with my electronics but can i just use a carburetor and ignore the electronics? I can't afford a new vehicle and chevy can't keep any engines in stock and their repair techs are not knowledgeable. Please help when you can.
@fromthebackofmymind

@@dirtymikentheboys5817 You need the exact year and type for your Cruze. Good luck doing a carb swap. Chevy resistance type wasted spark ignition would be a nightmare trying to make a drive by wire throttle body work with a carb. MSD used to sell a distributor for the 2.2, 2.0 ecotec. Good luck finding one. SWAPPING different type engine? The repair techs know this is a waste of time. Jasper Engines if you don't want ATK.

@@fromthebackofmymind Why, is this engine so difficult for techs to handle? Why are parts so rare? Why can't i do a throttle by wire system,? Are the electronics embedded in the engine? Why do I need the same exact year? A 2012 vehicle can't use a 2014 chevy cruze( if you can find it) engine? I just don't get why mechanic can't fix it correctly. Thanks I'll look into jasper engines.

Avalanche is a big unsung hero. The early 2000 Chevys are solid for their truck/SUVs with those Vortec V8s. I still have my 2000 Silverado 5.3 V8 Z71 LT 4x4 Extended Cab. May have shoddy plastic interior and the notorious wearing of the driver seat ridge by door but runs like a clock and never leaves me stranded. Got it from a Marine in like 2008 getting deployed for $5100.00. 4x4 works (even has Auto 4wd), transmission shifts smooth, and best of all it's paid off.

The avalanche was a victim of its marketing. No one knew what it was, or why anything about it made sense. What really amazes people when i haul anything with mine is that you can haul a load requiring the midgate dropped, such as lumber or sheetrock, and still have a sealed cabin as you dont actually have to take the window out to drop the midgate. Its very versatile.

Thanks for checking it out Scotty! Owner of the '02 Chevy Avalanche here. Going to address some common comments. 1. I live in Connecticut, within the rust belt. If you don't live this far north you don't know about rust! The rust is not too bad considering other Avalanches that I recently checked out. Especially considering the '02 Dodge Dakota with the snapped frame at 200k that the Chevy replaced. For 0 payments, I'll take a little rust, it's going to happen anyways up here. 2. Euro license plate was a gift to me by the wonderful welcoming people of ADAC Rallye Erzgebirge where I volunteered in Germany earlier this year when I studied abroad. The first 1-3 set of letters on the plate is the city or county code. Mine is "STL" for Stollberg, Germany! 🇩🇪 VW and BMW bros break their neck when they see an authentic Deutschland plate on an American truck! The plate frame is from Rammstein's Berlin store. Reise, Reise translates to "Travel, Travel" and I hope to return to Europe again soon! 3. Fuzzy steering wheel covers are the best coming out of turns on a cold morning, and will protect the steering wheel. You either hate them or love them. 4. Really enjoy seeing those in the comments sharing their Chevy GMT800 experiences, especially high mileage ones! Gives me hope for a long life! 5. Yes I paid $4k cash for this and did some work to it myself like the filler neck, undercoating as seen in the video, and replaced some parts that were busted. 6. I held out for this deal, was looking for over a month, checked out 2 other Avalanches but they were clapped out. This one was mechanic owned, stock, and maintained. I got the '02 for classic plates in Connecticut, and it is one of the better years of the Avalanche. 7. Locking tool/beer/miscellaneous storage on both sides of the bed! 3 bed covers lock in place and can hold 200lbs each. Used it as a platform for a ladder yesterday. Tailgate locks, bed has plastic liner, also my quad fits great with the midgate down and the tailgate up. Danke schön Scotty, was great to meet you and hear some of your stories!

avalanche has been my favorite ride for the past few years now. I don't mind putting money into it as it offers so much capability. Even if the trans goes eventually (mines got 180k) I can find them locally and under $1300. Id say the most annoying feature on the 5.3 is the knock sensors. I have a mechanic who did mine for dirt cheap. Second is probably the oil pressure switch . Third if piston slap and or lifter tick but neither really hurts the engine. Brake lines were fully replaced in mine but depending on where you find one it may not be necessary. Trans lines are next .

The Chevrolet Avalanche is one of the best trucks that GM has ever made in history, the older ones from 2002 to 2006. It is also similar to the 2003 to 2006 Cadillac Escalade EXT. The newer GM pickups have a lot of problems with active fuel management, which turns off half the cylinders of the engine to save fuel.

I recently picked up an 05, paid a lot more than $4,000, but I bought it from my mechanic that I have been dealing with for over a decade and the transmission was completely rebuilt with a 1 year warranty. A few other components were rebuilt or replaced. Almost no rust. So far, not a problem with it for a 17 year old truck. So glad to see you do a review on this one. Not that I had any regrets or concerns.

In todays market, good luck getting them for that price at a dealership. I got lucky with the 99 F150XLT. It has the 5.4L Triton V8. It's the crew cab but not full size. It has 4WD. I paid 3k for it and 2K to get the AC fixed. Because it's a 99 the Triton is a 2 valve, the good generation. I'm dealing with the body rust, which is pretty minimal, treating it and putting stickers on it. My dad offered to help put bondo on it but I told him no. Maybe if it were a GMC but not a Ford. There are a few codes but nothing I can't fix.

I do believe they're still putting the belt drive on the 3.5 liter Honda I just did it 120,000 k I think it's supposed to be $140 but I just got it done just for the hell of it I love the 3.5 L in my 2008 Honda Accord but you shouldn't drive any more than 160,000 K with that timing belt before you get the kit installed it's about $900 Canadian to get that done

Just bought a 2003 Z66 Avalanche for $4200. New motor and transmission due to an disreputable oil change outfit (dirty shame). Gotta replace the coolant resevoir, blender valve and the fog lights. After 2 months it seems pretty solid and it really is versatile. Only gripe is she is thirsty. I think I will keep it.

Thank you so much for what you Do! I love your no-nonsense approach, with your sense of humor. You have saved me a lot of money and educated my amateurish monkey-wrenching butt. I really love to try it myself first, and have no fear in trying to repair stuff myself. I have recently subscribed and encourage many others to do so. The videos you put our encourage confidence and remove the fear and trepidation so many have when it comes to cars, and other vehicles. Thank you again and I hope you never stop doing these!

Last weekend, I bought an 06 with 146k. Rust at 9 and 3, but not so much at 12. YES it did have some frame rot repaired. I come from Toyota trucks, I am familiar with this repair. The shop that did it, did it well. Other than that, you can look under it and see all the brand new stuff the guy put on, not to mention the meat left on them tires. He got a newer one and i got his daily for $2450.

I've been telling people for over a decade - the GMT800 Avalanche is a fantastic truck. I sadly gave mine up at 200,000 miles because no one drove it, it was hard to find parking, got only 12 MPG, and needed work.
@buzztrucker
@buzztrucker 2 жыл бұрын
Most of the GMT800 platforms with those Vortec V8s are very solid built reliable vehicles. I still have my Silverado @ 225k miles and it has never left me stranded and any fixes were cheap/easy... most of it just normal maintenance/ wear.& tear.

Ours has over 200k on it, and is still running good. Mostly highway driven and gets about 17 mpg, unless the wife drives it... Wouldn't trade it for anything! It will carry everyone, and hauls just about anything!

Why was it hard to find parking
@KaiPonte
@KaiPonte Жыл бұрын
@@franky-fr9ow It is a HUGE truck and does not fit in most parking spaces. Just try backing out of a space with other trucks nearby. My son would always laugh because I could not fit it straight as there was never enough room to swing in. Then the two cars on either side would barely allow me to open my door half way.
@KaiPonte

@@pg1171 Impressive! Mine usually got 12 - 13 MPG. At around 180,000 miles, the engine developed lifter issues, which would need expensive repairs. I gave it up.

Keep the bed drains clean and make sure to give the midgate a good slam when shutting them. Most people shut them too gently and then the midgate doesn’t get latched all the way to the primary position where it actually seals properly.

Paid $4000 cdn for a 2001 Silverado with 235, 000km last November has the typical rust around rockers and cab corners wheel wells up north here but it's a solid running truck with the 5.3l hasn't left me stranded on the side of the road. She was built in Canada not Mexico so I know it will last for a little while longer lol.

If you had $4000 and nothing more, I'd buy a ford ranger if you just need a economic small pickup with a bed. Or go with a 1st gen sequoia/tundra if you need something to pull some weight. The sequoias are more likely to be in the 4k range (i doubt youll find a tundra)

the Chevy Avalanche owner should replace the infamous heater hose connectors found on most 2000-2007 chevy silverado/tahoe gmc sierra/yukon/yukon xl and some cadillac models. This part is known to fail due to constant temperature changes and being that it is plastic. Dorman make a stainless steel heater hose connector Part number: ‎800-409HP he going to need qty: 2.

99-2006 gmc Chevy v8 4.8l, 5.3l, 6.0l, 8.1l are the best affordable trucks full size suvs you can buy , far cheaper and way easier to fix repair than a toyota. And if you think toyota so great look up these same years and problems with headgaskets, piston valve problems and the costs to repair. A headgasket alone in a toyota v6 v8 is $4-$5k.
