If You're Not Convinced To Play Batman: Arkham Asylum

This was the very first type of Batman related media I really got into and because of that, I felt it was beyond necessary to talk about it and maybe I could convince some of you to pick it up. If you guys enjoyed the video please leave a like and I will likely do more Arkham games in the future.
Batman: Arkham Asylum is a 2009 action-adventure video game developed by Rocksteady Studios and published by Eidos Interactive in conjunction with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. Based on the DC Comics superhero Batman and written by veteran Batman writer Paul Dini, Arkham Asylum was inspired by the long-running comic book mythos. In the game's main storyline, Batman battles his archenemy, the Joker, who instigates an elaborate plot to seize control of Arkham Asylum, trap Batman inside with many of his incarcerated foes, and threaten the fictional Gotham City with hidden bombs. Most of the game's leading characters are voiced by actors who have appeared in other media based on the DC Animated Universe; Kevin Conroy, Mark Hamill, and Arleen Sorkin reprised their roles as Batman, the Joker, and his sidekick Harley Quinn respectively.
The game is presented from the third-person perspective with a primary focus on Batman's combat and stealth abilities, detective skills, and gadgets that can be used in combat and exploration. Batman can freely move around the Arkham Asylum facility, interacting with characters and undertaking missions, and unlocking new areas by progressing through the main story or obtaining new equipment. The player is able to complete side missions away from the main story to unlock additional content and collectible items. Combat focuses on chaining attacks together against numerous foes while avoiding damage, while stealth allows Batman to conceal himself around an area, using gadgets and the environment to silently eliminate enemies.
Development began at Rocksteady Studios in May 2007, with a 40-person team that expanded to 60 people by the project's conclusion after approximately 21 months. Among others, the game design was inspired by Batman-penned works of Neal Adams and Frank Miller, and Grant Morrison's Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth graphic novel. Built on Unreal Engine 3, Arkham Asylum's production underwent several variations, refining both gameplay such as the combat system, and the central story, resulting in the removal of plot elements and some of Batman's main enemies, who did not fit the tone of the rest of the game. Rocksteady began developing ideas for a sequel months before Arkham Asylum's completion, hiding hints to the sequel within the game.
Arkham Asylum was released worldwide for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 video game consoles on August 25, 2009, followed by a Microsoft Windows version on September 15. The game received critical acclaim, particularly for its narrative and combat. Reviewers called it the "greatest comic book game of all time," and the "best superhero game of modern times." It won several awards, including Best Action Adventure game, Best Game, and Game of the Year from various media outlets, and it held the Guinness World Record for "Most Critically Acclaimed Superhero Game Ever". It has been cited as one of the greatest video games of all time. The game received several re-releases, including a Game of the Year edition in March 2010, a Mac OS X version in November 2011, and a remastered version for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in October 2016. Arkham Asylum's success launched the Batman: Arkham series, comprising video game sequels and spin-offs, comic books, merchandise, and movies, beginning in October 2011 with its direct sequel Arkham City.

If you listen closely at the first scarecrow segment, when batman calls oracle to tell her about gordon, she herself says "please call later", implying batman hallucinating that oracle pulls a prank on him or something like that. In the last segment, before the crash, from the speakers the phrase "did anyone catch the game last night" is heard. I love how the scarecrow where not only made to be scary, but also not make much sense, to better emulate the effects of a terrible 40 degrees fever dream.

There's no theatricality in simply choking them out from behind when all their friends are already down, it's anti-climactic.

@@benparsons4979 I won't argue that confronting the last dude face to face after you've taken down all his friends is badass (cause it is badass). But it's hella satisfying completely clearing an entire room filled with armed killers without getting seen once. And I'm not just talking about Arkham Asylum btw, I'm talking about all the other games in the series, where you can get theatrical by throwing smoke pellets into a small group of thugs, knocking them all out, grappling away, and listening as their friends see the chaos and speculate how Batman did it i.e ("What the hell? He must be using some kinda smoke grenade!", "He's using smoke watch your backs!") You can also use deception by programing a remote controlled batarang to hit your target from behind so they think you're in one location when you were really in front them, using the voice synthesizer to decieve thugs into thinking you're their boss( like Scarecrow, Harley Quin, The Arkham Knight) and direct them to do whatever or go wherever you want so you can knock them out.

More than killer croc, the asylum patients gave me a heart attack of their jumpscares. So that after few segments of their jumpscares, i would double check with detective vision for them in other rooms before entering.

Yes. Arkham Asylum is less like the large campus of City, which explores the gliding movement. It’s a cramped, chaotic, facility on a tiny island with all of his worst enemies. It really reminds me of a Batman-themed horror game. There’s psychological horror that the joker throws at Batman, there’s the familiar free flow combat. It’s easily one of my favorite games.

Asylum will forever be my favorite(yes I’ve played city just as much and love it so). Asylum since launch, was in my PS3 system for the longest of time. Ended up remembering the entire game like the back of my hand along with knowing word for word every line said by characters when getting to certain parts of the game. Hands down, one of the best game experiences for me! Oh how I wish I was 9 again experiencing this game for the first time. Hype was certainly real.

Arkham Asylum got me back into gaming. I’d had a PS2 but didn’t bother with the next gen because I was so focused on doing well in university. After I saw my brother in law playing this game on his PS3, I just couldn’t resist. I spent what pitiful funds I had as a student on a PS3 and this game even though it meant I had practically no money left for the rest of the month for groceries. I didn’t even have a 1080 HD TV, but I didn’t care. I loved the game, and it made me realize how far 3D games had come.

I didn't really play video games from 2009-2019 because of school, and then decided to jump back into it last October. Playing the Arkham Trilogy on PS4 was the perfect way to catch me up to what I'd missed! From this game combining the best of PS2 & PS3, to Arkham City's perfectly realized open world, to Arkham Knight's amazing graphics and side missions- this game gave me a great experience that bridged the gap between playing as a kid and adult.

I remember when young me first played this game. I wasn’t very good at video games whatsoever back then and it showed. In combat I would only strike, I didn’t know what “counter” meant, and I just assumed that it made Batman strike a pose. When I got to the first stealth segment with the 3 person corridor, I was really bad at keeping myself discreet and didn’t realise that crouching made you silent. One time I tried to punch my way through. Nearly worked cause I was playing on easy, which I did on pretty much every game I played. The intensive treatment stealth section that followed it wasn’t very good either. I remember having trouble beating it. Don’t even get em started on the mandatory riddle, I had to ask my dad for the solution. The scarecrow segments were my kryptonite, I was so freaked out by them. Especially the first one. I remember nearly quitting the game because I was so scared. I think the first time I beat the game was when I played it with two friends I had back then. Don’t remember much about them, but they were way better at the game. Didn’t stop them from being fooled by the fake glitch! Anyway, I’ve come a long way since then, and can now beat the game on hard mode without too much trouble.

I find that the remaster of Asylum worked the best but only in game, the cutscenes actually look better in the original! Then City isn’t even a great improvement. I’m still grateful for the remasters though, it’s nice to have the Rocksteady trilogy readily available on the same console!

Glad you enjoyed it. I was a huge BTAS fan as a kid so needless to say this game was a dream come true. If that wasn't cool enough the game released on my frickin birthday. It's a masterpiece in my opinion and deserves all the praise it gets. The sequel Arkham City is also fantastic. Side note: Subjective opinion here, but I much prefer the original version of the game. Return to Arkham added rain which was cool, but aside from that the art style was a little too different for my tastes. I recommend if you ever play it again pick it up on PC. Crank up the settings to max and enjoy it at 60 FPS.

This game is my childhood and have played this game at least 15 times 100% 😂 same with the other 3 in the franchise it is and will always be my favourite franchise. When I heard Knight was the last in the franchise I was so upset but I am beyond happy to hear that they are making a 5 in the series.

Ik this doesn't relate to the video but I would love to see Asylum and City be ported to the Switch and maybe Origins but I can see these games running fine on that platform.

The counter system for the arkam games actually came from the Spiderman games from the ps1
