Marvel’s Spider-Man for the Playstation 4 is one of the best games on the console. It had fluid traversal, addictive combat and stealth, a story that had passion, and most of all, it was all executed expertly. While I did have a fair number of criticisms towards this game I was still excited to revisit the three DLC expansions released for this game that were all tied under the City That Never Sleeps saga. I went through the same motions I did when the base game released in that whenever a new DLC was coming up, I would completely clear my schedule for a day and enjoy myself, essentially ghosting everyone until I 100% completed the expansion. I remember the expansions quite fondly and I believe that they still hold up to the day, barring a few instances.

Marvel's Spider-Man Critique: • Marvel's Spider-Man Re...
DLC, or downloadable content can be a tough subject to tackle. Some argue that expansions should be in the game from the start and that DLC’s feel like cut content that is being drip fed to you for a price that is never comparable to the original game’s price. I only feel that on occasions in which the DLC is extremely short or if data miners find the finished portions of the DLC within the base game. So things like paying $5 for Goro in Mortal Kombat 10 did not sit entirely well with me. Some expansions that did sit well with me were InFAMOUS First Light and the Batman Arkham Knight Expansion.
I liked the story presented here a lot as it expanded upon the unfinished arcs of the base game and did it so well that I argue this DLC is essential to experiencing the entire Spider-Man PS4 storyline. Black Cat was a character that I really wanted more of in the base game and having her play a role in this story was really good and I appreciate the plotline with her Son, as it made me look at Peter and Miles' relationship from a different angle. I was trying to imagine what it would be if Peter did have a kid and he continues to explain how he isn’t ready and how he doesn’t think he would even be a good dad.
Hammerhead was fine. He was just a basic villain who wanted power and money. He doesn’t stack up well against the villains from the base game though because his motivation is purely power. Doc Ock was destroying the city for revenge, The vulture was helping so he could find a cure for cancer. On top of that there were just other villains I would not have minded seeing, like you know who we need? The Spot. For real though I thought Hammerhead was just whatever and that’s fine because the real stars here were the supporting characters.
The funny thing is though, it is kind of where this DLC falls short for me. My own definition of what a good DLC is, is that it is not mandatory to get the full experience from the game. The issue is that this DLC is so well done in my eyes and that it’s story does so much to wrap up the plotlines of the base game and set up plot lines for the next entry, Miles Morales that I’d argue this DLC is mandatory to get the full experience.

Video made by That Boy Aqua. If you have not played marvels spiderman or even heard of spiderman ps4, then do not watch this review. You should play the games if possible and if not then at least watch my marvels spiderman review. In my spiderman ps4 review I specifically talk about everything in the game and a good majority of the video acts as a marvels spiderman remastered review since that's where my footage came from. In my marvels spiderman critique and my marvels spiderman analysis I aluded to a potential the city that never sleeps review and in this the city that never sleeps critique I tell you why I believe that it is DLC done right. While this marvels spiderman dlc review covers the season pass, it does not discuss the possible marvels spiderman 2, it is strictly a spiderman ps4 dlc review and instead of acting like a spiderman turf war review, spiderman the heist review, and a spiderman silver lining review, it is a review of all three of the DLC's as an entire package. Again, most of the context behind this video lies within the that boy aqua spiderman review. I enjoyed this DLC a lot and I hope that we get some sort of miles morales dlc soon.

@@sh_2426 2 years late, but Arkham Knight had playable character DLCs that were like, 20-40 minutes max with barley any story substance at all, if any. They obviously wanted to add more playable characters to Arkham for more unique AR challenges, but had to justify it to WB executives by making you pay $10 a pack for them (probably has dropped dramatically by now, though). It also had main game DLC that added around 4 new side quests, all of which are very short, only one of them containing story worth watching. When you compare this to Spider-Mans DLC, they are extremely short and have close to no substance in them. Like, the fact that Spiderman gets to **talk** to Sable and Blackcat for long periods (by Arkham standards) of time makes this DLC leagues better and longer than anything Arkham offered, sadly.

22:49, Yuri’s decent into brutal vigilantism in the name of “justice” also continues the trend of loss and vengeance (more commonly, some form of selfishness or ego) turning Peter and Mile’s allies villainous. Just like Phin later on, Yuri is motivated by feelings of weakness over the failure to prevent the death of her allies that she compensates for with violence and other acts of savagery in an attempt to reclaim a sense of strength and control. Not to diminish the intention or potential benefits of eliminating criminals beyond redemption or rehabilitation, but both Miles and Peter similarly suffer instances of loss and weakness, but ground themselves by focusing on others rather than themselves, being a part of the community they fight for rather than individuals doing what they believe is best for everyone without actually considering the perspectives or wellfare of others. It’s humility and compassion that keep them from letting their powers or their weaknesses corrupt them, as we see with Martin, Otto and Phin, who needlessly endanger others in their pursuit of “justice” and in Phin’s case, without even having the clarity to realize it until she was put into a position of needing to sacrifice herself to prevent it. In fact, Phin’s actions in particular ultimately accomplishing nothing as Krieger would’ve been able to salvage the situation in his favor until Miles indirectly convinced his uncle (more specifically, getting him to look beyond his rigid, self-serving cynicism for the sake of helping others) to testify against and expose Krieger. With Venom in play next game, it would be interesting to see if they continue this trend of corruption with Harry and maybe even Peter if Venom bonds to him (maybe exposing and amplifying lingering feelings of betrayal at the hands of Martin and Otto, making him lose his ability to trust Miles and MJ or empathize with others, especially his enemies.)

This is the best review of the DLC on youtube by far, Insomniac need to see it and hear what you have to say because it will make subsequent games better for it! Here's an idea, instead of an essay in this format why don't you try doing something where you are focusing on the small moments in a game that on their own don't add much but together really elevate the whole thing, you touched on things like that in this video but maybe one where its a bit shorter and you do a montage of these moments/features/details and show how you think the levels/scenarios would be worse off if they didnt have these things. I think thats usually a problem with sequels is that they drill down improve a lot of things but by doing so leave some of the tiny details in the dust and it ends up making you pine for the less complex but older title in the series. Sometimes I think the tiny details are more important that anything else and its what I remember for years afterwards. Max Payne 3 is like this for me, there are so many little moments or bits of writing that elevate it a higher plane and make me want to replay it forever. A lot of the stuff is missable, so I think it would great for you to make a video examining the stuff a lot of people might miss. Apologies if thats something you've already done but I'm relatively new to the channel and I'm just watching your new content rather than going back through the archive. Anyway, hope that helps you in some way, and as others have said you are a brilliant creator and you should have a zero or two on the end of that sub count based on the quality of your work.

The fact that Spider-Man is solving the differential equation of a pendulum in his head every time he swings from a webline blows my mind. Especially when you realize there’s at most a few seconds in between swings, he can tell the length of his web lines just by eyeballing it and he is often dodging bullets, lightning bolts, rockets, chasing bad guys and doing all sorts of other things while doing it.

The moment you said "Y'know what we need? The Spot" I instinctively left a like. I would kill to see him come back. I always loved his character and his ability. If Spiderman 2 gets a Spot side mission, I'd love that

I have a feeling that Felicia wasn't lying about having a son. In the main game, Peter and M.J. were split up for 6 months (a comic tie-in establishes Peter dated Felicia shortly after his break-up, but those comics do take certain liberties with the story, so take it with a grain of salt). The DLC takes place at least 3 months after the main game (as the post-credits scene with Peter and M.J. at Mick's after she is promoted to associate editor establishes). In total, 9 months, which makes it entirely possible for Felicia to have gotten pregnant and given birth. And she did say it wasn't a lie, but a "misdirection". Just because she lied about Hammerhead having her son captive, doesn't mean she doesn't have a son at all

From a first time experience, I can safely say i enjoyed it. I believe that insomniac’s Philosophy is about Quality versus quantity. The DLC wasn’t very long, nor was it very time consuming or difficult to do, but simply fun, and overall important to the lore of the story. The problem with DLC’s is that they don’t always feel very important to the main story and doesn’t really affect the main story at all, But after what happened to Yuri- the saddest character development in the game, I knew this DLC was different. Wish we would have seen DLC for Miles Morales as well, but their focusing all their attention to making Spider-man 2, wish i’m happy.

Not gonna lie, I was hoping for Miles Morales, but I'll watch any video you put out and would rather you pursue something that makes you feel again. "You've got this spark in you, it's amazing. But it's yours, and whatever you do with it, you'll be great." Looking forward to your next one, Aqua.

I’m going to do Miles Morales for sure but what I meant is that I became complacent and I have stopped trying to improve. I for sure want to continue making reviews but I more importantly want to strive to be better than my last video. Sorry if I didn’t communicate that properly.

@@ThatBoyAqua oh yeah, I meant more like your Sleeping Dogs video. I've never played it but would love to hear about it. I already played Miles Morales, so I don't mind waiting on that video, as long as it means you get to pursue a topic that sparks that enjoyment again.

Loved the new bases. Especially the style on the Turf Wars bases. The Silver Linings bases were actually still challenging after topping off all of Spidey's skills and gadgets, which is hard to say for any of the other side content( the only thing that makes Screwball challenges still a challenge are trying to get the photobombs ).

I ADORED Yuri’s plot in this dlc. Seeing her fall from grace play out in front of us was shocking, and the way it tied into her obsession and career surrounding Hammerhead was outstanding. It didn’t feel sudden; it really felt like she was just pushed over the edge.

Your channel is so F awesome. I've been watching it for the last 2 weeks and I'm surprised of how you talk about characters and everything in the game. I wanted to send you a request ¿Could you talk about days gone? I mean if you liked the game, because of the recent stories about a sequel and everything else, with the way you talk about games I'll love to see that.

Personally I love the dlc and I thought it was refreshing to get after finishing the main game, tho my main issue is the spike in difficulty cuz there’s like an obvious amp in difficulty going from the main game to the dlc and like once you know what you’re doing it’s still a challenge but doable, however the bases still give me ptsd
