Took me 25 yrs to realized that I was living with low self esteem and finally I found out at the age of 31 yrs old. I grew up in a latin country with unhealthy mindset about competition for who is the best created an “Ego” in me that was killing my heart and poisoning my mind. Be kind to yourself and be honest with yourself and you’ll discover that your fears are not real. ❤
@rebeccatolomei43639 ай бұрын
I’m so sorry to hear this. I’m dealing with this exact same thing with a Latino guy I’m seeing, same age as you. He is so kind and caring, but it’s like there is so much self hatred. So much pressure to be masculine, so much pressure to act in a certain way, I treat him like he deserves the world, and every small thing that I do, it’s like he is shocked that someone would do that for him. It’s funny because he’s a seriously good looking guy, tattooes, great body, gets loads of attention from girls. He gets a lot this external attention but he doesn’t know how to accept actual love, actual genuine care from a woman without anything being expected in return. I feel so bad you guys have to go through this 😔

I'm a firm believer of that. People sometimes misunderstand this when I say it, I sometimes consider this as a selfish act as in helping people or when we apologize. When we serve people I feel like I was able to lend a helping hand which soothes my heart, the same goes when I apologize. When I do this it takes off the burden in my heart or in my mind. This makes me think that serving people is just not for the people receiving it but also for us as well.

This is ridiculous. The best or the worst? Some people have been through terrible abuse that has left them feeling worthless and without confidence. People have a difficult time listing their skills when they have been told that they are nothing. Many of these abusive relationships begin with losing yourself in the service of others, who then steal from you, hit you and put you down. This eventually makes you feel reluctant to reach out to others, not because they won't thank you, but because they may hurt you again. You may need time to heal, to breathe, to care for yourself, before you feel strong enough to jump into service. Losing yourself in anything, a relationship, a job, a cause, is dangerous. You must be aware of your own values, morals, and worth, or you may be badly used and lost.

Insightful video. Made me realize that the common denominator between an inflated or deflated ego is that both attitudes ("I am the best" or "I am the worst") completely isolate the person. Which I suppose is why service and community involvement in general works to abolish the ego.

Jay Shetty's talks are always deep, and this one about ego and self-esteem is no different. It's interesting to think about how our self-esteem connects to our ego, just like Jay and his guest talked about. This reminds me of my life coach, Lisa Haisha, who's an expert in personal growth. She teaches me to be aware of ourselves and grow inside. Lisa's work shows how being honest with ourselves helps me become the best versions of myself. Thanks for sharing this one, it serves as a great reminder! ❤❤

I am an empath, and I can say that sometimes we get do get sucked into being manipulated by the wrong people. Helping others involves helping those who need it not those who manipulate you. I have helped the wrong people in the past, and while I do not expect anything in return, Maliciousness is surprising. But I think the key as stated, is to be able to discern a genuine person from a not so genuine person if that makes sense.

Exactly! It's fascinating how ego plays such a subtle role in both low self-esteem and overconfidence. I’ve felt that pressure to be the best or the worst, and it only led to more confusion. It's like trying to fit into a box that keeps changing size! Embracing honesty about my strengths and weaknesses really shifted my perspective. Humor’s similar, too-sometimes the fear of not being funny can freeze you, and other times, overthinking it can backfire. The Sense of Humor Improvement Program by Habit10x helped me navigate this, and now I’m more relaxed about being myself. Keep it real, and humor will follow!

Hey Rae, this idea you are weak sounds like a generalization and a harsh judgment of yourself. If you were a friend to a person with this view of themselves and you were an honest and caring friend, would you allow this self belief to be unexamined. Maybe there are some errors in this Perspective you are coming from > I'd question myself; what is this judgement based upon? Is there some error or distortion in the Lense you are looking through. Is it real. Is it true? What Perspective is this based upon or coming from? It's a tenancy to compare our internal judgement to our selective observations of others external " on show" We all need support and love to help us to appreciate the real true reality of ourselves > it's a journey > we start where we are > total acceptance for how it is - being careful we aren't judging ourselves incorrectly > all the best brother / sister

Btw successful people struggle with confidence issues as much as, if not more than, the average person. When you’re successful you’re often stretching beyond the boundaries of your comfort zone and doing things that scare you… and ultimately, this goes hand in hand with self-doubt. However, the difference is that many successful people are used to dealing with confidence issues, so they’re often more prepared to manage them and utilize the tools at their disposal to overcome them.

I am writing this comment because no one actually knows me here. I really needed to vent this out. It has been an year and I'm facing anxiety because I feel under confident about almost everything I do. Even when there is something happy in my life, I do not know how the negative thoughts just rush to me. It's very disheartening too. I am facing issues to express what exactly is in heart and none of my friends or family for that matter know about it. I was an extrovert but by time I've realised I've lost the sense of interaction with people. It feels pathetic to be honest. Writing it here maybe would give me a place to talk about it because I'm not getting any platform to talk about it. I do not know I'm doing it right writing about it . I'm again in a dilemma but so be it. My academic performance has dropped which gives me more stress than I can ever take. My personal relationships with people have snapped owing to my insecurities. I realise the problem is with me. I really want to fight it, I know focussing on myself would treat it but I feel enervated. I don't feel like getting up and doing things for myself. I feel helpless and this feeling of helplessness is making me all the way more vulnerable. Maybe venting it out here might not be a very good decision or on the contrary can be a great decision who knows but I might feel a little better. For all those who have read it and heart it, I'm genuinely thankful.

I am barely surviving in my job and have not been able to get promotion due to my reserved behaviour and lack of communication. I try to fix my anxiety and also take actions but I get demotivated really fast or unable to stay consistent. I have suffered in my relationships as well I think it's alright to vent out what you're feeling and I think it's a part of life ... Never stop trying. I am going to see a psychiatrist to help me with the issues. Maybe you can seek medical help if it helps in someway

Thank you. I wish the same for you. Most importantly, I empathise with you. I hope you really grow through talking to a psychologist and I wish you get promoted and do wonders in your job. 🌼

I need some of this tbh. My crush said she liked me to a friend and she's beautiful but I just dont feel like im good enough for her. I've always seen people as if they are better then me when actually im working on a university degree. Thing with that is I dont believe i can do it and i constantly worry that I will never make it in life even though I have all the oppurtinities which makes me feel like I'm ungratefil for the situation I was born into. People tell me all the time that I am lucky since according to them im tall and have good looks and got some good oppurtinities. I also have lots of friends but I just always feel less then them. Also people telling me how lucku I am makes me realize how lucky iam and yet I still feel somewhat depressed and like im not worth it. I feel really bad about that since I am incredibly lucky yet iam still sad and feel like I'm less. I should be happy but for some odd reason I am just not.

This is exactly how I feel. And that's the reason why I subconsciously keep pushing people away, even those who might be remotely interested in me.

The whole internet makes fun of short men. Women don’t like short men. It’s very hard to become rich. I don’t know how to feel confident despite that.

I have never struggled of low self esteem. My family have always treated me as stupid and not good enought my mother told me ar 41 she was surprised I could survive on my own after the death of my father she always thought me stupid and helpless she always treated me this way😊 I was to keep me under control. In Russia parents wanna control all . Now I am living happy-go-lucky alone and never miss my Russian family I enjoy sports driving hiking while my mother did everything to keep me put of my freedom😂😊. And I love it! Some family is so toxique better let go of them and live on your own😊🎉

What did Jay Shetty studied. What he is talking about is mixture of psychology, philosophy, religion, and spirituality. When I studied Raja Yoga, it LIBERATED me!
