God bless you sir. You are one of the smartest people I know on the entire youtube! You have taught me soooooo many things. I wish you were president. You have common sense, and also intelligence and wisdom. I am an "okay" mechanic. I can do some small things. replace timing belts, fuel injectors, things like that, and yeah when you take the fuel rail off, the injectors tend to break...I had no idea it was 2500 psi OMG! Also you like the KISS method of cars. Keep it simple stupid.....The best cars I have had were a 1972 340 cuda, and a 2004 Dodge Ram Rumblebee Hemi, and yes they were both modifed. I was in the Army 2 years and then National Guard 5 years. Then underground mining 17 years. My IQ is 120-158 depending on the test. I also build my own computers for friends and family. I think you are smarter than I am!

if you smell gas but dont see anything. Always look under the car at the fuel tank then follow the fuel lines under the car up to the motor. Small leaks will evaporate before dripping on the ground. So well maintained, GM had a potentially 300,000 mile car if it were not for the plastic garbage & unneeded technology. How can manufacturers be so blind? It does need a little work, but I'm more comfortable driving it, than my '05 Camry. The Camry is OK, I just have more room in the van, & I don't have to squat to get into it. I don't feel as cramped. In my case, I honestly usually save time repairing things myself vs bringing it to a shop. Not only do I have 80% on the cost, I also don't have to go without my car for an entire week while it sits on their lot due to poor scheduling. Maybe it's just where I live but it is nearly impossible to drop your vehicle off for ANY kind of service and expect to see it back within a week. The last time I ever went to a crap mechanic was over 10 years ago. Dropped off my truck and drove by in a borrowed vehicle everyday for work and my truck just sat there parked in the lot. They took 2 WEEKS to even touch my truck and then did a crap job and wanted $3,600 for the work. Truly, I could have done all of the work they did for about $300, a full weekend and a 750 of Vodka. If I ever am lucky enough to find somebody like Scotty, I will change my mind but for now I'll never trust somebody to touch my truck or hold it hostage for weeks

I had an 07 Impala that I put 300k miles on as a daily commuter. Of course, toward the end, it was tank of gas, quart of oil, and top off the power steering. Gdi systems have 2 pumps. One in the tank and a high pressure one driven by the camshaft. Pressures in some systems approach 600 bar (8000 psi) and can actually compress the fuel due to the bulk modulus of gasoline. The designs need to be similar to diesel fuel systems which deal with fuel pressures greater than 25,000 psi. The science is well established to make these systems robust. I like to see vehicles get 200,000 miles on them.

Years ago, there was a company in Fort Collins, Colorado that took VW Bugs and fixed them up to basically factory-new condition, and sold them. Now, that's a niche market, but I love the idea of taking old cars, and at least semi-restoring them (rust, rubber, pllastic, etc.) and selling them. And, with today's technology, I'd also like to replace the engine and transmission in them with a motorcycle engine driving a generator, a battery pack, and an electric motor. A simple frame, body, and drivetrain that's cheap and easy to work on, with a new ICE/electric hybrid powering the whole thing. If I ever get the chance, I'll do it.

That is a fire hazard. Many cars caught fire on the highway after the fuel system developed leaks when the engine was running at high speed and gasoline sprayed on the hot engine than caught fire.

The fuel rail as well as the injectors are all metal, not plastic. It likely just needs the o-rings replaced.

Impala- once a great car , way back when, the 2002 I unfortunately purchased was a disaster, thankfully I had the extended bumper to bumper warranty, as the engine blew, transmission gave up, steering linkage failed, all within the first 15,000 miles. Never again, except old classic GMs.

My 2017 Impala has a 3.6 liter V6. I hope that engine doesn’t have these problems. It does have good power, but will not keep up with those V8s. My Impala is the Premier model and was not even available with the four banger.

Saw a Ford pulling a Chevy out of a ditch just yesterday!🙂Nice modest ride. My 2003 Ford Taurus got a leak halfway up the gas tank at the seam. Replaced the tank, the thing is a screamer.

It's like all motor manufacturers of today they'll keep the cost of building cars to a minimum with plastic engine parts which will go brital with the heat and eventually fail after about 10 years or so. Its such a pity really seeing cars outside scrap yards that look absolutely fine all because of the cost of a repair which the owner carnt do themselves but unfortunately it's the way it is these days. Great video as always..

On my old Lexus it was one of the fuel rail pulse dampers...$10 part and 5 min. to replace. Looked there first based on an owners' club posting on line. It seeped so slowly that no fuel was visible but could sure smell it.

Overkill, he got 270,000 out of these plastic ones. He can probably get after market plastic injectors, the rail & O rings on rock auto for $600. DIY or get a shade tree mechanic to change out and he'll be good for another 200k.

Manufactures are not blind by making things of plastic. If engine last or tranny might as well Make things out of plastic. For one cheaper to manufacture and make things more disposable. Money is the key it does not matter if made in China or USA.

Right now 2023, fixing $2500 is cheaper than buying a new or used eoonomy car, from any maker, assuming it will get another 200,000mi after its repaired and nothing else is failing as Scotty presents it. Since it was well care for, the original owner has gone through what needed fixing, like the valve covers, whereas a new car, new problems are still unknown and a used car, you hope the previous owner did not abuse it so issues appear, some months after its been bought.
