My name is Brian Fitzgerald - I'm an Australian full time golf coach living in Melbourne and coaching at the Eastwood Golf Club in Kilsyth..
FAQ:
How long have you been a golf coach? I qualified as a full member of the Australian PGA back in 1985. Wow I don't feel that old.
Why do you make videos for KZbin? That is a great question and one I get asked a lot. I love helping people play better golf and people tell me I have a very unique coaching style that is very simple to understand. We really should do things simpler. I just make them to help people and if people like my videos they can either come for a golf lesson in person or if that is not possible you could join my membership program and I can then view your golf swing or any part of your game and really help improve what you do.
Do you always change some ones golf swing? To be perfectly honest I try not to. If I do try to change some ones golf swing I have to have a pretty good reason for doing so and the client has to be fully engaged and committed to both regular coaching and practice in order to make that change. Most people say they will do both with good intentions but most fall away pretty quickly.
So my preference is to change things that will improve their score easily. There are so many different ways to do this.
What do you film with? - I have a few few different cameras I use. An old GoPro Hero 4, an iPhone 6 and iPhone X, A Sony ZV1 and an old Panasonic Handy cam (I'm using that less and less now). I record my sound on an old iPhone 4.
What do you edit with? - About a year ago I switched to Adobe Premiere - prior to that it was Pinnacle Studio
Do you make money off KZbin? - Yes.It took me over 100 videos to make my first total $100 off adsense and then another 50 videos to make my next $100. I think it will slowly change, but VERY slowly.
I really enjoy your videos, how can I support you? - Here's my ko-fi where you can buy me a coffee, beer or a burger should you wish (kind of like giving me a tip via : ko-fi.com/theg...
Thanks for watching!

I do struggle in green side bunkers. Not in fairway bunkers though. This demonstration is the best I've seen and make perfect sense. Can't wait to try it. Thanks for this idea.

Here in the States we seem to have very fluffy and thick traps. I find the firm and thinner sand traps much easier than the thick fluffy stuff.

It all comes down to technique and bounce Bill. It sounds like your technique is good nut your bounce angle may not be right for the soft fluffy stuff. A 12 or even 14 degree SW or LW in the thicker stuff might help without changing your technique. Brian

Thanks Brian! After our quick drill of hitting the cutting board on the driving range for better iron contact I played my best 18h round of golf to date. 2 pars, 3 bogeys, and 4 double bogeys. So satisfying and i think a significant factor was that quick drill. So Im thinking yes, works for bunkers as well as iron shots. Thanks for your help!

I’m going to give this a go, as they say. Years ago I went to a Dave Pelz short game school. I loved everything EXCEPT the bunker lesson. Maybe back then they couldn’t afford an actual bunker?? Anyway we did something similar. Put sand on a plastic board then hit. It didn’t work for me!! I’ll let you know!

I am sorry to hear about your poor experience in the bunker session. I have yet to see it fail in one of my lessons and I’ve been coaching almost 40 years. Things to keep in mind when you do it. You want a shallow angle of attack. Listen to the sound I was making in the video. I wasn’t thumping into the board. The more noise you make the steeper angle of attack. Depending on the bounce angle of your SW or LW you may be better keeping the clubface Square. Anything more than 10 degrees keep it square. My hero Seve Ballesteros always kept his club square. I do to. Let me know how it goes.

Exactly. It’s what I bang on about in every bunker video I have made in the past 10 years. The breadboard encourages the shallower strike without my intervention. I have used this drill for over 25 years and it just works. Thanks for watching. Brian

Don't take this the wrong way, but I think that was terrible advice. Practicing off a board like that is going to teach some bad habits. You need to let the bounce of the club do the work.

@@craigferri2162 I find that it teaches amateur golfers to hit down on the ball, which is not a good thing to do in a bunker. If you are going to practice in a bunker, then practice hitting out of a bunker.
