The online survey of more than 2,000 U.S. adults, conducted in October, found 31 percent of Americans have been bullied as an adult and many (43%) say the behavior has become more accepted this past year. The survey defined bullying as being subjected to repeated, negative behavior intended to harm or intimidate.
How do you stop bullying? Why do people bully each other? It can cause great anxiety to you in the workplace, at home and in your relationships leading to depression and other mental health issues.
What are the solutions if you are being bullied and how can people that exhibit this behaviour change.

My dear sweet man was bullied at his workplace. He was disabled and had a strange body shape and therefore walked oddly. His heart and mind were amazing. He hated going into work everyday. He is no longer on Earth and no longer in pain. He died at 58 and he died so sad. Don't bully anyone, ever, no matter what. It's cruel and hateful. Life is difficult enough without adding this kind of attitude into the world.

So sorry 🙏 We seem to recently have built a culture where we don't have great management anymore. A good manager could have broken that up quickly. Something like that happened at our work years ago. The permanent staff bullied the temps but we had just one good manager out a bunch. That's all it takes. I was on nights so avoided it. But it was awful. Similar. A disabled man. I hope you can find happiness again. Love ♥

You are so right that incompetent adults in a position of power are the worst kinds of bullies! According to my own experience, people who bullied me at work, are usually pretty ignorant and not able to think for themselves. Everything appears to be easy for them, and they cannot understand why someone would have a hard time learning a new task or getting over personal tragedy, such as yours. I find that these types of people are generally pretty dull in their intellect and empathy. They have probably never really suffered themselves, so they can not relate, and so they scoff at what they don't understand. So sorry for your loss. @@LonerWeirdo That is inaccurate. Unlike psychopathic people who plot and use people for a rational and logical reason, narcs will literally fuck themselves to fuck you over. They generally are not the most successful. I know it seems strange that a person with no empathy wouldn't rise to the top. After all, it is our empathy and conscience that hinders us in using and abusing others. But the psychopath, at least has logical reasons for their behavior. Anyone could easily see that he did such-and-such because he thought he could benefit. Narcissists are not like that. A true NPD will sacrifice their own assets to screw you over. Psychopaths are logical, unemotional, predictable. Narcissists make no sense. They will throw their most precious assets away, just to hurt you. Hence, they don't achieve success at the same level as a psychopath who looks at everything as to their benefit, or not. Narcs will favor the traitor over loyalty, will give more attention and energy to the one who screwed them over, and make every effort possible to ruin someone who truly loves them. I know it seems counterintuitive. It is exactly that. But it is also real. An NPD will betray and harm those who are their allies for those who seek to harm them. And, frankly, whatever harm they get from their heinous behavior, they deserve all of it, and more.

If you are more inclined towards empathy, this makes you very popular with patients but causes a great deal of jealousy in your work colleagues. Stick amongst the empath in your environment, for support, and if things still overwhelm you find a different environment where your skills will be appreciated. Good Luck. ❤️

Bullies are cowards. I was bullied as a child, I was bullied as a young adult at work, the latter caused me a near breakdown. I became a "people-pleaser", not that it did me any good. Family and friends knew that, whatever they said or did, I would not fight back, I would just take it. Fast forward to the present. I am no longer a people pleaser, I have few friends and hardly speak to family members (some I have cut myself off from them entirely) and I am a happier person now. I am sad that it came to this, however, to preserve my own sanity it had to be done. It was hard, and it still is, but I could never go back to those toxic people again and put up with the same old same old. I am free! One final point that I have observed, the internet can be a good place, but it has more than its fair share of bullies, especially on (un)social media. KZbin can be particularly bad, the drama channels and those who claim to be "commentator not drama" channels. I have seen a nasty set of people from one channel do their best to hound a very small channel off air, without success, I hasten to add. These people are old enough to know better, being middle aged and above. Never mind. Karma can be a right old moobag hey lol

@ArghMatey those who "talk straight", demand what they want, inevitably get ahead of us who are more quietly spoken, more considerate and less willing to rock the boat. The heard mentality is to gravitate towards, to favour the confident type, even when that type is also a bully or depraved pathetic individual. Just ask all those millions who were killed and suffered throughout history because a bully pack of bullies was leading a whole society against 'the weak'. Us humans in large groups tend to behave in self-serving, cowardly fashion. A petri dish for bullying types to flourish. I've strayed on both sides of the line and it takes great effort and courage 1. To stand up to bullying where you see it 2. Monitor and control yourself for enabling bullies or becoming one yourself

The nasty thing about bullying is the very subtle nature of it. When you acknowledged it, you'll likely be gaslighted by the people around you, either consciously or unconsciously, because it's an uncomfortable thing to handle. We'd rather deny it's existence. Insidious psychological poison, indeed. I've had my fair share. On the bright side, I'm hyper sensitive to social cues of this nature so I can see it clearly. Although, it's painful, and sometimes I want to forget it exists: see it comes around to me, my weakness. But I won't deny it, I can't really. I savor the glimpses of wholesome interactions and loving cooperation. If only it was a constant; But I guess we have to stand against something for life to get stimulating and strengthening. At least, when we see what's off around us, like bullying of all kinds, we can know what's the opposite of it.

The worst thing is, when you get so browbeaten you can clearly see you're being lied to. By your friends, your loved ones, family. Gaslighting is the worst thing along with psychological torture(been gaslighted by therapists and given placebos). I'm a shell of my former self. I don't know who I am, anymore. The only thing I know is that I want to make the healthy recipes I see on youtube and nothing else. Even going to work scares me.

Stand up to bullies. Defend yourself, even though it may seem very scary at the time. The biggest regret I have in my life are a few scenarios where I let bullies hurt me when I was younger. If I could turn the clock back, I would. Never, ever bully but sometimes you do need to fight fire with fire. Scary as it is, stand up to the bully. It is the right thing to do. And your future self will thank you.

Howard Send I realise that this is a really old comment, yet it seems important to mention that it depends on the people and situations though, because I've been physically assaulted for standing up to bullying types and even had two teeth knocked out once! Of course, it's usually worse when alcohol and/or other drugs are involved since a lot of people become angry more easily when drunk, not to mention high on meth. Therefore, it's definitely best not to react in many cases and a lot of troubled individuals want a reaction from the ones they're bullying anyway in order to satisfy their unhealthy, or downright sadistic, needs. 🙁

I was bullied during a job interview, and when I left i was still within earshot when I heard them mock my answers. Luckily one other candidate was also being interviewed so we later left the building together and talked about it, she was the only good that came out from that meeting. They did the same thing to her, and teased her resume. It felt as if they hated that I was confident. They even showed disbelief at my skillset and tried to catch if I was lying about it. It was very weird. Honestly, it felt like they were in a mood to belittle someone so they called us for interview.

Hi, again, everyone...so...I am a person trying to come out of homelessness. The other day, a social worker said to me, “Bhakti, you have seen the worst of people, so it’s hard for you to believe there’s anything else out there.” Fair assessment. If you are not exposed to love from others, you become very guarded. So many people seem to find it easy to disregard the “human essence” of others. That’s been my takeaway. If I show love to someone, which I do, I usually get taken advantage of. Feels like a trap.
@MrLeighman
@MrLeighman 4 жыл бұрын
The Answer is to give love unconditionally. Dont expect back, just give and trust me, if what you give is sincere and from the heart, your giving will be your reward. No one can take advantage of you for giving love, they can only take advantage of you, if you think they are taking something from you, which is impossible. People can only take from you if you give them permission. Be aware of those who play physiological mind games and try to trick you. just give what you can and no more. Give even to people you dont like and give to people you do like.

I'm sure it's well-intentioned but these are adages people repeat when trying to push away the horror of much of human behavior. We're a pack animal, like wolves and if the pack led by the leader wolf sees something weak or different or threatening in another individual, they will demand that the rest attack her. Also it's sadistic enjoyment of seeing another suffer and feeling of safety within the pack. I was bullied at work while I was looking after my Mother and keeping up to a full time job, because the stress made me subdued. When Mother died, I got back to myself and laid down the law with the two worse culprits. Both started crying and complaining about me to the boss. Now they want to be mates. NO THANKS LOVE.

Bullying behaviour is a product of the environment. Bullies are people in an environment that promotes bullying. You are looking in the wrong places. I'm sure that narcicists are more likely to become bullies, the same goes for insecure people, abused people are also more likely to be bullies. But in the end bullying is the result of the environment. It is a design flaw in the local culture, the worst thing is that bullying still arises in schools if you don't design the culture at all because kids have a different mind than adults and it usually isn't a nice one. Even if you do shape school culture, like in USA schools with their nationalism, school spirit, and other forms of pride in what you are (instead of pride in what you do), even then because the don't understand what they are doing, bullying still happens. The reason they don't understand what they are doing is because research into social engineering (I prefer the old term human ecology) has been taboo for a long time, it was only allowed if it was called marketing.

The worst thing about living on this planet is being bullied. I would sooner be punched, stabbed, starved, burned, and have it over quickly than be bullied and have it drag on some 40 years. Knowing it is about the other person, not me, doesnt make it any easier to bear. It just reminds me that they dont feel the hurt, I do.

Bullies are everywhere, after experiencing it at school I became an anti bullying warrior. I will call people out on it toot sweet , change up the dynamic, as more people become aware of these tactics, the harder it is for bullies to continue. Whether it's been directed at me or others. When they are exposed, they usually quieten down or back off completely when the victim has vocal support. Don't suffer in silence, always share with others, help can come from surprising directions.

I work in a dementia unit where there is a lot of competition amidst the residents for front row sunny seats looking out on to the garden. Competition for these seats can create quite heavy duty bullying with some strong ones regularly pushing the weaker ones off the seats. This weekend we’ll start working on creating a non violent /anti bullying culture by implementing an attitude of understanding, love and respect for all residents no matter what their level of ability /disability.

Been bullied in school, as I was an introvert and always got best grades. I come from a broken home, and that didn’t make it any easier. I don’t remember how it didn’t affect me. Perhaps it did? I remember that a good book was the best companion during such time. Now, my neighbour is bullying me for no apparent reason. Maybe because I dress differently than anybody around!!! We live in a world of narcissists. Bullies hurt themselves more than they hurt their victims, and Karma doesn’t spare anyone. Down deep in my heart, I feel loved and protected. There’s always a bully who feeds on our distress and pain. I think it’s up to us to give them what they want. Love and light to everyone here 🌻

I would fall in the category of sensitive and volatile as well, and when I loose it, I always feel awful because people look at what I do when I'm like that and think that's who I am, when I know what they are seeing is my inner self flailing at the failure of my mind to constrain myself from lashing out. My anger and volatility is not who I am, it's how I (badly) react to being mistreated. I don't know how to stop doing that, and I am genuinely afraid of losing my wife and kid, as they will one day be fed up with it and leave. Is there a good place or a book to start with? Should I talk to someone?

@@stois Yes, please do. Try talking with your partner first. See if they think y'all could use a therapist's advice. If it is difficult to get the words out to her, write them down. Potentially, use this precise tactic of writing things down before you say them to avoid/mitigate your volatility. Also, try having more meals but smaller, sprinkled throughout the day. You could be sensitive to low blood sugar making you unnecessarily 'hangry.'

Thank you for bringing this up I was bullied at school badly and never knew how to react sometimes I’d explode with rage so vicious and powerful I felt I had the strength to lift a car other times I felt like just laughing with gentle humiliation at the tormenter was much more conducive and effective Now I’m a lot older I see what happened as all part of this huge zero sum game that will eventually burn out and the human race will ascend. Incidentally one of my bullies eventually became a great friend so positivity can arise from the negative vibration.

I started a job a couple of months ago, my boss gets frustrated easy and can be moody sometimes. And then other days he can be in a much more positive mood. He doesn't deal with internal stress well judging by the fact he is 55 but looks 70 and smokes. Sometimes it's hard to deal with his outbursts of disrespect towards me for honest mistakes. I sometimes feel trapped in work and like his negative energy brings me down. Which then sometimes entices me to go to Sainsbury's for lunch and buy some sugared ring donuts for 75p to feel good.

It’s amazing the amount of toxic people think it’s ok to talk about other people behind their back or sometimes being inappropriate right in your face. I don’t think I’m asking too much to be treated with respect. Now I’ve learned that when they trigger me it’s the universes way of showing me I need to love and respect myself more.

Another terrific video. Lately, I've been going out of my way to avoid toxic people who gossip, judge and criticize others. I started by dropping a few friends who participated in these behaviors and continued to simply avoid putting myself in the position where I might get pulled into these conversations (work break rooms, for example) because I just find it frustrating and upsetting. I know I've certainly made errors and said things that were out of line myself and I'm definitely far from perfect, however, I think the best first step to changing these habits is to avoid the toxic environments that encourage them.

I would love not to be so terrified of them and walk freely around the city, but I seem I cannot do it.
