I films one of these guys at work. I thought it was a leopard gecko. Did some digging and found it was western banded gecko.

Hey there, great video! I 100% agree that WB geckos are extremely underrated. They're basically mini leopard geckos! I have a lovebird couple that's given us at least 20 babies (plus some eggs that didn't make it due to learning how to properly hatch them), plus 4 eggs currently incubating, in the ~10 years we've had them. I think the main reason they're such an unknown and underrated species is that the Departments of Wildlife in the areas that these are native have made it illegal to buy or sell the species, even if captive bred & born. But it's really awesome to see that others are breeding this fantastic gecko and trying to establish a market in areas that it's not illegal! Let me know if you'd like to see pictures of my geckos. I'm inactively/indirectly trying to create a morph so that I can establish a market locally.

My brother n sister in law found a western banded gecko and we found it under a rock when we were rock hunting.n we live on the rincon reservation in valley center ca next to harrahs casino.

As someone who has been breeding these guys for yearssss now, you should definitely change the substrate, 75% eco earth 25% sand or you can find reptile factory makes the absolute perfect desert mix for these guys! although lay boxes work, I’ve noticed they will still try to lay outside the lay box, so I filled with the desert mix from reptile factory and have been having non stop eggs! I can definitely give you more tips I’ve learned over the years!

I started this past season working with this species. I have also learned the same lessons as you. Specially with the eggs, they would be dried up so fast so I made a lay box like I do with my leopard geckos and finally I got good eggs. Only hatched out one I killed two experimenting with incubation temp unfortunately. But had a hard time getting the baby to eat anything because it just wasn't small enough. Hoping for a better season next year now that I've figured out these issues. I have a wild caught female coming to me from, I hope I spell it right, the Sonora dessert in AZ. I'm in Florida and Hurricane Ian has delayed that from happening but she's waiting for me in AZ till shipping clears up. I literally said to my finacia that I needed to message you and pick your brain and then I saw this vid. I'm telling ya you and I think a like when it comes to breeding. I find I do things a lot like you do lol.

I have found, having a fruit fly culture (or 2) to be invaluable as a primary and secondary food source for very small geckos. No we do not but should by next season.

Be careful with the fruit flies. I've had many many baby banded geckos grow tired of them, and stop eating. Always try to have extra-small (most farms call them pinheads) crickets or another small insect as the primary, and have the fruit flies as backup. This species, in my experience, can have a picky eater here and there, which refuse to eat roaches, wax worms, etc. They all love crickets though.
