"If you want me to stay" by Sly and the Family Stone was released in 1973. I was 15. This record was the best song I had ever heard in my life and I was I was a huge James Brown/Motown/Stax fan at that time. As I grew older and my music appreciation matured, I always had this song in my heart. When I discovered the brilliance of Bass guitar and James Jameson, I went back to this song and was wowed by the incredible bass that existed on this song from the beginning, whch made me love this song even more. Sly did a version of this song on Mike Douglas show and commented on how the bass players did a good job playing on the TV version (see video: Sly walks off the set back to his seat at the end of the song, and the band plays on). My point: I truly love this song! Your version here is exceptionally well done. Outstanding guitar play, wonderful vocals; nice jazzy arrangements... Two points of feedback: a) I would have loved if you had used a live bass in this arrangement... b) please don't clown around with movement (it ain't dancing) while playing this song, it really cheapened this video for me. nice job sirs! 7/9/18

Anybody know what scales did these guys use to play over these super cool yet basic chords? Am7, Gm7 C9, F7, E7 the white guitar starts out in a pentatonic scale type thang and then blue guitar does the weird jazzy stuff with the sharps and flats.

hi, no real secret... just a good mic, its the avantone cv-12, and the important thing is singing correctly into it, the proper gain on the gain, and a decently quiet room. I dont think we did do much mixing on this, maybe some eq and compression and stuff. thanks!
