I would like to see more (ANY) studies done to test how reducing sugar can help fight cancer. Without going into detail... I was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer, was at stage 4. The DNA testing on the tumor estimated a 5 year life expectancy. I followed the recommended life extension treatments. I ALSO eliminated ALL sugar sources from my diet. NOW, I am testing as cancer free in under one year! AND I lost over 80 pounds and feel great. No longer on blood pressure pills. In my opinion, if your Doctor / Nutritionist do not recommend on every visit that you switch to a LOW sugar or Sugar Free Diet, you need to take action for yourself and even look for another health care practitioner.

You can't eliminate your blood sugar, you need it to survive. This is glucose in your blood. I have read that cancer cells need more sugar than normal cells. Web MD says cancer cells need 200 times as much glucose. Web MD also says that being fat can cause cancer and high insulin can cause cancer. Then it says eating a lot of sugar does cause spikes in insulin, so during the spikes the cancer could initiate. So best to lose weight and keep your blood sugar down.

It’s horrible. I am 10 years clean from alcohol and a couple of other outside issues. I just got over withdrawal from sugar and refined carbs, and believe me, I had withdrawals. Maybe because of my past opioid use, but it was close to that withdrawal. Whole body pain, insomnia, you name it. Doing much better now and I feel so much better! My brain functions are back after damn near dementia, and I have more stamina, and can feel joy for a change.😂 Plus I’m skinny again. I highly recommend quitting.

Thank you for your posting! I have insomnia, severe short term memory loss that’s scaring me and whole body pain that I couldn’t relate to any particular activity. My doctor ordered bloodwork that didn’t reveal a cause. But sugar addiction screams loud and clear. I am a sugar addict but I didn’t realize what I was experiencing was from sugar. Certainly makes sense now. This very day, April 14, 2024 is the first day of my going off sugar and with the Lord’s grace being successful!

I went keto then did meditation bought nothing in a packet except for deliberately allowing myself chocolate at weekends. Cold turkey is easier if you learn how to do total fasting. I found out that bread was deal breaker. I could not just have one slice. Chocolate was different somehow. So the trigger for me is bread and must be totally avoided in my case. I fast at least eighteen hours most days and then total fast for 36 hours once o'er week. Eating fat like butter or lard and not being afraid of it has helped me escape the sugar trap.

Omg. Browned butter bites are sooo good. I highly recommend making them and keeping them either in your fridge or freezer and if you feel a craving for candy or cookies eat one of them. I make them in a little candy mold (mine happens to be shaped like hearts) and it works out to a little over 1/2 Tbs each. I can eat 1 and it takes care of that craving (for me anyway) . If you have a sweet tooth I recommend this trick highly

I used to regularly get myself 2 candy bars whenever I went to the store, and really enjoy them. (plus other stuff) The way I backed off of them was by sensing what I was able to put off or say no to at the moment, realizing I didn't want to sneak or shame myself or hide, but I just kind of was my friend and said no to what I could, without being punitive. I changed my habits over time. So I don't know if that story is any good for you, I'm just thinkin' about what you're sayin'.

I told him exactly that is the problem, he has to to change his diet permanently and how he thinks. He just got out of hospital after the stint in his vein collapsed. You don't believe cheeseburgers without the bun,, pepperoni cauliflower crust pizza, chicken wings, bacon and eggs, keto ice scream, T-bone steaks, and fried chicken won't make you fat? C'mon use your brain. Sugar consumption has declined significantly in the USA in the last twenty years. Obesity has kept going up at the same rate.

Dr Lustig is very passionate about human anatomy and public health. What *is* surprising is his admission about caffeine - as it's a cerebral vasoconstrictor and considering how important white brain matter is, you would think he might eschew it in that regard. HiJim: those numbers are puzzling. I have a few thoughts : did you gain any weight because the body can make its own sugar ( gluconeogenesis) from protein and fats especially if the calories count is too high. Are you eating large amounts of fruit? The body cannon ert excess fructose to glucose. What are you drinking? Both soda and fruit juice are literally liquid sugar and can mess with your metabolism. Sports drinks are often high in sugar. One of Dr. Lustigs videos mentioned an athlete whose performance was deteriorating, he was as prediabetic and had to quit his sports drink. Also you said you quit 90 % of the junk food you were eating . This implies you are still eating some junk food.i suggest testing suspicious items with a glucometer to see which foods are spikingyour sugar. You could also test blood sugar one hour after a meal.

@ I think the point is recognizing that this is not pleasure and that you are not actually enjoying it. You just get a hit, but the sugar crash is not pleasurable. And you repeat it in circles. It’s been a month of eating a clean diet for me, and it took that long to feel better. The symptoms have stopped now. It is said that symptoms leave after a few days, but that wasn’t the case for me as I was a heavy sugar junkie.

About 3 weeks ago I stopped eating sugar, or most of it. I have used a spritz of maple syrup once or twice. I've only eaten whole food, real food, no meat. I stopped because I realized I was getting the jitters from sugar related hunger pangs and glucose spikes. It's working! I'm 75, and I've abused my body for a long time. It's never too late to learn or to change. in fact, change is guaranteed. With regard to withdrawal, I ate fruit instead, along with my rice, beans, greens and grains. I've tempered the fruit some now.

I buy glucose from the wine making store and make sweet drinks. It is about half as sweet as Fructose so you just add twice the amount. I think the total calories is about the same. It is also called Dextrose and also called Corn Sugar. Then I add fizz with a soda stream. This way you avoid the fructose molecule , it is hard on your liver. When I was younger I could make a whole bowl of icing from icing sugar, butter, milk ,vanilla and eat the whole bowl. No problem and I was not fat. Then a bakery opened up across the street from our house when I was about 12 years old. Eddies Austrian Bakery. The baked good they made were just amazing. Long john, coated in chocolate icing with a sugary filling. I could eat lots of those and they had strudel and all kinds of squares. lemon chocolate, I have never found such an amazing bakery anywhere since. They went out of business about 10 years later. It was Eddy's son , Eddy junior that didn't know how to run a business. I also got a job at the bakery and we got all the donuts and long johns and whatever we could eat for coffee time. Then I learned to make sliced bread with the machine and bag it and dipped the long johns in hot chocolate to coat them and they were going to teach me more but they went out of business. Then I got a job at McDonalds, which was the first one to open in the city. They actually made the French fries from potatoes. They had a big drum to peel the potatoes and then a slicing machine. I was never fat and my blood sugar is still low. I used to always be cold as a kid so maybe I had low blood sugar. I used to sit on the hot air register to warm up. I could eat nothing but sweets and donuts and cake all day long with no meat or vegetables at all. If I didn't know it was all junk food and bad for you, I would just eat that all the time now.

Yes, my mom literally drowns in sugar, every day i see on kitchen table big chocolate, cookies, then she drinks coffee with added sugar etc. But the daily sugar intake that doctor mentioned is not accurate, its based on how much can liver metabolize. Because its not same if person eats 25 grams of sugar in single meal, or divided in 3 meals with several hours apart, then absorption is more balanced, even if person eats 40 grams is in my opinion better then its divided in 4 meals than 25 grams in single meal

I’m seriously addicted to sugar and I’m at a loss what to do. I’ve tried quitting cold turkey, cutting out a little bit at a time, going low-carb, etc., and I am just struggling with it. 😞 I’ve given up alcohol, about a month now, but before that I could go weeks at a time, not a heavy drinker, but more of a social with dinner drinker. I’ve seen improvements in my stomach/GI health, but the sugar is killing me.

Hi there, Good on you for deciding to take care of your self. It is very important to understand that what ever action we take or do in our lifes have a reason and purpose why we are doing it. Such as being stuck with a substance or certain life style that we are actually not happy with but we sort of dont seem to find way out to change it. We first have to understand why and for ehat purpose we are being addicted to something. Your new purpose to stop drinking or eaiting must be stronger than purpose of continuing to be addicted. Your dopamine rewards must be more rewarding for your new choise/new life style of not drinking or eating sugar than the one if you continue to do so.

Its not only sugar, its where sugar is formed. Red beet salad has sugar and its sweet, but after you eat like 100-150 grams you dont get cravings or eat 500 grams. While Coca Cola has also sugar, but most of people wont be satisfied by drinking only 1 glass, there are many cases where people drink 2 litres of it daily.

My father was a sugar addicted led to diabetes and he had bleeding toes , even pictures of me as a new born baby in the mid 80’s , I never had healthy parents. My younger brother and I have struggled with weight on off all our lives . I am trying to be as carnivore as I possibly can. Thyroid problems, adrenal fatigue , perimenopause, think close to menopause. My mother and father diabetic, father ended up with cancer died 2005, brain cancer, now my mom has heart problems after diabetes diagnosis, 2 years ago April almost died from high blood sugar, now WAY UNDER CONTROL were it should be, now has heart issues *** Yes heart problems in her family side *** my younger brother had a heart murmur as a child. Baby pictures with my dad he was overweight not obese but overweight. He died 2 months shy of my 20 birthday……I was 19. Not yet 20. Now I am almost 39 and I have almost lost my mother a few times in the last few years …..diabetes diagnosis changed her diet huge her blood sugar is down to almost normal on Berberine. And had a major heart scare in the last year and a half almost killing me , under tremendous stress from it has led to adrenal fatigue, my blood pressure drops very low at night. I actually fainted a month ago. Now I keep a blood pressure cuff in my bed at night…..the battery operated ones and sea salt 🧂 available at bedside . I also bought Sea salt capsules I have extreme dizziness at night. Adrenals are bad. I would be dead if my father lived and taken care of 2 sick parents. All my life taken care of parents being unwell. From a child. I saw my parents in and out of hospital. Traumatic to say the least. I felt often from a child would I be orphaned.

I was robbed of parents due to sugar addiction. Both unhealthy all their lives . Plus I think it explains why ? I have had chronic Health problems, though I eat healthy mostly between keto, carnivore, Mediterranean, Paleo. My health depends on it. My mother wasn’t well to have kids . Hormone problems which I got too. Adrenals weak all my life leading to chronic health problems like allergies etc……allergies to food etc…..all stem from weak adrenals.

Going cold turkey is a recipe for failure/depression considering the nag of withdraw. I accidently started juicing a year prior to limiting sugar (then wheat, corn, rice and soybean oil). Now I blend for the fiber and nutrients. Nutritional saturation is needed to build willpower to resist the call of the nag, pretending to be hunger. Sugar robs a homie of nutrition. After decades of sweet and sour pork over rice, eating bok choy, onion and garlic stir fry seems remote. It was a lot easier to limit sugar AND wheat after building up nutrition. Especially on Friday nights when reasoning tries to convince you, you deserve a pizza for being so good.

Healthy eating starts with healthy shopping. It helps to know that the grocery industry only gives you the illusion of choice. In reality they want to control everything you eat. I only buy single ingredient foods and I do all my food preparation myself. Well, OK, I allow myself some splurges but, for the most part, I never buy processed foods or even foods with more than one ingredient. The quickest easiest way to improve your shopping health is to avoid anything in a brightly coloured package.

Surger is converted to glucose in the body, fruits, carbs are also ultimately converted to glucose, sugar is a concentrated form of glucose, moderation based on personal activity, is the key , the difficulty is requiring lots of energy while young due to higher activity, this is learned and habitual, later in life you tend to slow down like the guy started with shovel is now managing others with shovels , eats just as before but not spending the same amount of energy, result a slow insidious gain with justification, denial, I know for I am living it, even zero sugar low carb doesn't compare to the demands the brain imposes with signals to subvert your understanding

Required for what? Carbohydrate, including sugar, is the only macronutrient not needed from an external source, as the body will create the glucose it needs through a process called gluconeogenesis. There are many people who have started eating a carnivore diet in which they eat zero carbohydrate, and some have been doing it for 40-50+ years without any problem. In fact, many say that eating no carbs is healthy and can reverse many issues, including autoimmune, skin, gastrointestinal and mental health issues.
