Quite a few people who have unfortunately fallen victim to this have asked in the comments about account recovery. The only reason why I was able to recover the account I gave was because the person who stole it wasn't fast enough and had only changed the email alias once, so I was able to use Windows Hello (a pre-existing 2FA method I'd enabled on the account beforehand) to regain access to the account under the first email alias change. This was probably the account stealer's first few times running this unethical "scam," since they even let me get away with recovering the account I provided. Whether I got the account back or not wasn't particularly important to me, but that's besides the point. If your account was stolen and the email alias has been changed twice, alongside an inevitable password change, there would essentially be no longer a funnel to your account. Unless Microsoft implements further security measures, trying to get it back at this stage is essentially like trying to steal somebody else's account (ironically, your own account), as your account has practically become that of the stealer's. Regardless of everything, I would recommend the good practice of using at least 2 measures of 2FA for your Microsoft account (or any of your accounts), such as the SMS phone verification and authentication app options which work effectively and efficiently.

if you sign into your windows 10 or 11 OS with your microsoft account, there’s an option to enable the use of your computer’s password or pin to access virtually all of your log-ins or passwords. That system is called Windows Hello, and it takes priority over all 2FAs, password changes, and alias changes. If you know what you’re doing, then you’d be able to regain access to any accounts which are stolen from you this way - basically what I mean by “stealing my account back.”

Hey @@reeseon10, if your account was stolen and the alias has been changed twice, then it would no longer be possible to recover it. You can check that by trying to sign in using the first email change (assuming whoever stole your account also changed the primary email alias, because they most likely would have to prevent you from recovering your account). As for Windows Hello, keep in mind that it is merely a backup option, and you have to have enabled it back when you still had your accounts to use it. If it's the case that your email alias has only been changed once or not at all, then it might be possible to recover your account if you had windows hello enabled on the signed-in computer, by simply trying to sign in to the main email alias (whether it be your original or the changed one, which you should have received as an email alias change notice in your email inbox) on live.com or any microsoft website and choosing the Windows Hello option. Once again, if this isn't the case, then there's no other way, unfortunately.

Ah I'm sorry to hear that unfortunate case regarding your friend. You can use Windows Hello to override all sign-in options as it's simply the highest priority alternative sign-in option in itself. First, your friend will need to determine if their original login email was changed. Whether using that new email or their original email, they'll have to sign in and choose the option to sign in using Windows Hello, which simply requires the input of their computer's PIN. If their Windows Hello was properly enabled and is still working with that account, and if that account is also the same one that they're signed in with on their computer, then they should be able to still sign into their account using Windows Hello. From there, immediately change the email alias, then the password, and remove the scammer's foreign email address from the account's alias.

If the person who steals your account does the operation correctly by changing the email alias twice, this wouldn't be possible. Windows Hello is only possible if you had that enabled and took action immediately, which was the example I provided for the instance of my alt account in the video.
