Resentment is poison and once you start to go down the road of blaming your partner, bickering, or judging them, you’re only adding to the stress that your partner already feels. If you’re the one who’s being made wrong, you know exactly what I’m talking about. If you’re struggling to communicate, there’s only one thing that will turn this around and get you back on track. You need to triple down on the encouragement.
It’s easy to bitch about the things you don’t like, try spending the next 24 hours calling out all the things you see that they’re doing right and that you appreciate and you’ll be shocked at how quickly it changes your relationship for the better. Even if you’re the one who’s getting picked on, being more encouraging will show your partner what YOU need.

Damn you literally just narrated what I'm going thru myself now. Fell into a depression bc of finances, closed myself off to everything bc I was beyond embarrassed and pissed off at myself and now my and my gf are literally at rock bottom and she's thinking of leaving. We decided to try to save our relationship and are going thru that now. It's been super stressful up til abt a week ago and now seems to be going better thanks to people like this. I yold him, Shut the heck up, woman! (In those words, I thought only women did this) Those are your THOUGHTS. Train yourself to not say your negative thoughts out loud, for chrissake. Think them, but don't ever say them out loud. Because it doesn't achieve anything good, it achieves no progress. Use only words that do achieve progress. And those are words of encouragement. Words of positivity. He refuses to re-train his brain. He grew up in an abusive family where his mom and her third husband yelled insults at each other all the time. And he's a very intelligent man. What a shame.
