This is my VERY FIRST attempt ever to put a video on KZbin so please overlook any mistakes, and yes I was a little nervous. I built this kit myself from medical equipment I already had from other kits. I hope that there is something you can take away from this video that will help you with your personal or family medical kit. That is the main reason why I posted this video. Again this is my opinion from my experiences and by no means am I giving YOU medical advice...just my opinion.

+Terence DeBruycker Thank you so very much for your kind words. Coming from medical professional such as your self is a great compliment. This was my first video and I have taken several medical classes since then, including a combat medical course. I have a newer up to date kit if your interested. It can be found on my channel with the other posted videos. Would love to have you as a subscriber. I have also made several other medical bag videos that you may be interested in viewing.

Great IFAK touches on a lot of scenarios. The TEGADERM is actually made with a membrane to let the wound breathe while keeping out germs and water, a little pricey but worth it, also Xeroform is great stuff to. Again great advice good video.

I keep some johnson& johnson first aid cream in my IFAK. Its great for minor cuts and abrasions. Also I like to have a triangular bandage. Great for slings, compression and a lot of other things. Also tampons as an affordable way to carry compressed cotton in a way that goes right up your nose when you have a nosebleed. Plus I add hand warmers in winter to complement my mylar blanket. I prefer the double sided gold/silver ones.

Looks like a very extensive kit. Most importantly is that it seems that you have the medical training and knowledge to back up the equipment. I've met so many people hiking, camping, etc that are hauling all this gear but don't have the first aid knowledge to back it up. I try not to carry anything I can't safely and knowledgeably use.

Hi again - just one last thought / addition to the kit - Mastisol or Benzoin (tincture) in crushable ampules along with 1/4" and 1/2" Steri-Strips for a easy / simple / effective wound closure avoiding the necessity of topical / dermal anesthesia and suturing. The Mastisol and Benzoin are excellent adhesive agents and will absolutely ensure Steri-Strip adhesion for several days. Thanks again.

Great kit. Could not tell if the bandaging was ace or cohesive wrap. I love the cohesive tape and rarely use regular medical tape. Also be warned the Celio powder will be very bad if used in wind and gets in eyes.

I went back and looked all over the tourniquet but there is no company marking except on the wrap it's in. I knew a guy who was a SEAL medic that used to frequent a military shop I hung out in and he was the one who was apparently working with a group out of VA Beach (maybe little creek) to develop it. When I got it all those years ago it was a proto type.

Throwing a clot after a serious wound that requires a blood clotting agent is always a possible danger. Most people who have a serious injury or surgery normally go on a blood thinning agent to help prevent against clots. And you are correct you can not leave the Quick clot in the wound for long periods of time but you can't do that with gauze or any material for that matter. But if you have some of the granular stuff I would still keep it. It can always be used in a WROL/SHTF scenario.

And you are correct. Saliva is and wouold not be recommended for lubrication for a nasopharyngeal tube that is why i carry a small tube of lubrication seen in the video. However if I could not get a tube in to secure the airway I would use that method in a worse case scanario. The eye drops in this video have a special ingredient in them and were prescribed by my eye speacialist. You can use any eye drops for a make shift eye wash if needed. Maybe something in my video sparked an idea to carry something new or "advancing" someone's bag or skills, it might even save someone's life. That's what KZbin is all about..........sharing knowledge. And I'm still learning as I go, changing my setup, introduced to new skills, etc. I do have a large family trauma bag that I haven't shared (yet), but thank you so much for your feedback. In my personal medical situation with bee stings, I have to take Benadryl first, then if I start to development symptoms of anaphylaxis shock then I take the epipen. In a pinch if all a person has is benadryl then by giving triple the dosage to someone who "YOU KNOW" has a anaphylaxis reaction to bee stings or certain foods it may save their life. Most benadryl comes in capsules which could be broken open and drank immediately.

Great kit. I have been using a CAT (Combat Application Tourniquet) for several years and have never had a problem. You paid much more money for a lesser piece of equipment. The CAT has a 2 inch band which makes it a better device. It causes less tissue breakdown at the site of application. Those that break the plastic windlass, need more training. Tighten only till you lose pulses. No tighter. The application should be left on for no more than 4 hours so there is minimal risk of losing a limb. But great kit overall.
@SONofLIBERTY
@SONofLIBERTY 9 жыл бұрын
Albert Dominguez Thanks for watching and I apologize for such a late response. And I agree that the CAT tourniquet is a great piece of medical gear. It wouldnt have the longevity of service if it wasn't. I think the reason that we hear about the winlasses breaking could be attributed to several factors. 1) There are more of them in use across the world than any other tourniquet I would guess so we hear about issues more frequently, but the reality is that it's a small percentage in comparison to the number of units in service. 2) variation of training of the individuals using the device as you mentioned. 3) various levels of stress combined with people who "just don't know their own strength" may contribute so some of that percentage as well. As to the comment about the New tourniquet being a lesser product and paying to much money, I respect your opinion but respectively disagree. The guy I bought it from was a SEAL Medic. He was working with some other unit guys out of Little Creek, VA to develope something of higher quality. I support innovation of small businesses because that's how new products make it to the market that we all know and love. The Tourniquet was $40.00 and the pouch was $20.00. Perhaps a lot of people would not pay that much but what a conversation piece to have. When you put the tourniquet in your hand you know immediately that this thing was created with great care.

I have also PlasterSpray it is very good for small, not deep cuts or scratches, you need to clean / sterile before, then Spray the plaster and wait 1 min. and when it is dry - it is water resistance and absolute sealed from infections and dirt like a plastic skin above. , you can cover every size with it, as long as you did sterilized it before and it is not bleeding like hell and not too deep. It very good specially for sports you do not need to stop long time and better then normal plaster might loose or get riped away, you just need 1 min. and you are ready to go again, also the healing is much better. I know PlasterSpray does not save lives, but it is really the most used medical item I have. And I have sterile self-gluing Bandages which I like, normally used to tape the feet of horses, but with a sterile compression/patch underneath it, it is very great, also you can easy apply more pressure to it if needed then with normal bandages, specially when you do not had enough the trainee or too much stress to do bind a bandage right. Coal Tablets for every kind of poising by eating/drinking of drugs, too much alcohol, wrong food. Something to measure fever is important, because temps can rise fast and the one who got mostly fever, does not feel so hot till the lights go off and you might better indicate a pneumonia which is hard from a cold or flue and you need as fast as possible antibiotics when holding 38,5 C degree fever, it is mostly then pneumonia as far as I know ? Also nice is a rescue blanket in better quality got 6 Grip Holes on the side, so you can move someone with it.

Looks like a good kit in the hands of anyone who knows how to use these items. Better to have all you can when in a remote location. Would recommend adding a small AAA volt strobe becon. They also make a water purification straw that is about the size of a turkey call that will filter a number of gallons of water. Hoooah!

I always carry a parachute flare in my bag as well as a Frontier PRO water filter. The great thing about the Frontier Pro is it can hook directly to my camel bak or to almost any bottle (2 liter, 16.9 oz, 20oz, etc..). The water purification tablets are my backup. Can never be to careful when it comes to water.

Like the video, see you are missing some important things. I would definitely add some non latex gloves, and add some more alcohol prep pads. Iodine has a very high possibility of alergic reactions, so be careful with who you give it to. Your NPAs, and OPAs have gotten a lot of comments, but are missing some. With your OPA I would hesitate to use it only with that bag due to the high possibility of gag reflex, and no suction. It would cause another major issue, and more than likely complicate the airway. Your NPA shouldn't be used on an unconscious person unless you know it's not a head injury. The last one is is more of a question, your epinephrine pen... is it an adult dose? Here in Texas you need a prescription for the Epi Pen , and it has some pretty big contradictions to giving one. Overall I enjoyed the video, keep them coming. Love the AR in the background BTW!

If you get that sick from bee stings, oral Benadryl isn't going to act fast enough to help you. It's not appropriate to lick a nasopharyngeal airway to lubricate it. Your words not mine. Refresh eye drops are over the counter, not prescription. A good start to developing a kit. Thanks for the video.

CAT' s are not bad by any means but when I am building a new medical bag I will go on EBay and look for new IFAK's and I can usually pick them up for around 40.00 and I get the tourniquet AND the medical supplies.

thanks for the video. Do you have a list put together for this first aid kit? What tourniquet is that?
@SONofLIBERTY

The tourniquet was a prototype made by a company out of little creek VA started by seals called S&S. I don't have a listing persay of items but takes look at my newer medical IFAK videos and you'll see more details with links in the description.

Great first video buddy. I have a question for you. I was under the impression that the Tegaderm dressings were breathable (semi-permeable) and allow gases and vapors to escape. Noticed you said that it would be waterproof and wouldn't allow the wound to breathe. Is this true, or are there different kinds?
@SONofLIBERTY
@SONofLIBERTY 10 жыл бұрын
To my knowledge I don't know of any that are breathable (but doesn't mean that they don't exist). These are waterproof and they have many beneficial factors such as keeping the I.V. port in place and from moving, keeping infection out such as staph, and if you happen to bleed slightly it does keep it contained which is important.

The Oral Pharyngeal Airway tool comes in different sizes. What size would you recommend for adults?
@SONofLIBERTY
@SONofLIBERTY 9 жыл бұрын
Mine in this video is from an aftermarket company but I know green is a color designated for adults, but the sizes do vary. Last gun show I went to I got a complete set all the way down to infant for $10.00. Search Amazon, you should be able to find one there. And all were different colors designating their assisgned size. I just don't have it handy to relay that information at this time.

You should keep your glowsticks in their original packaging. If they're exposed to sunlight for a longer amount of time they will actually loose some shining capability. Other than that - great video.

For some reason it will not let me post the link but search for "Prepping for your Truck?" and you can see how the kit is used now, but I transitioned to the SOE IFAK. (Review will come)

Hi ! After viewing your video, i try to get your trachea plastic item. What is the exact name and where can i get one of those. I tried on ebay. But my search failed. I know that it's not a must have item (from what i learned on my advanced first aid course. But i can come handy during a worst situation. Does it come with a special mouth piece ? Thanks!
@SONofLIBERTY
@SONofLIBERTY 8 жыл бұрын
+prepper quebecois No there is no special mouth piece, but the unit itself IS the mouth piece if that makes sense. Do a search for "oropharyngeal airway kit" and it will bring up all kinds of kits for sale. I like the color coded ones like I had in my vehicle trauma bag, which I did a review on, but that bag was stolen.

Nice kit. Mine has a couple things strapped to the outside and I'm trying to figure out how to pair down this smaller kit. I've just run into a lot of incidents on the road (I drive 200-400miles/day) and a few other places that have exhausted small kits so it is hard for me to carry less... I carry a larger bag in my personal vehicle, but I've been carrying the smaller one in my work vehicle/EDC bag... and it is still a little too big/awkward. Trying to pair down. Thanks for sharing! A list in the description would be nice next time if you have time. re betadine (seems more folks are allergic to betadine because of the coloring dye than are iodine) *from unfortunate experiential knowledge, didn't look up anything though... so grain of salt I guess.

AL Genaro I'll need to keep that in mind for my future videos in regards to the list. Thank you too for the heads up on the Betadine as well. This is my mobile EDC/kit but if your interested.....I made a video of the Trauma bag I carry in my truck incase I need to respond to a vehicle accident or other event. Just click on my channel name "SONofLIBERTY" and look for my Trauma bag video. You find some things beneficial.

@SONofLIBERTY
@SONofLIBERTY 6 жыл бұрын
Rick G I've never heard of sunscreen expiring. But I would say at some point it would lose some of its properties which allow it to be applied more evenly. I've had some that was 4-5 years old that had a thick texture versus smooth

found this on google:Sunscreens are designed to remain at original strength for up to three years. This means that you can use leftover sunscreen from one year to the next. Some sunscreens include an expiration date - a date indicating when they're no longer effective. Discard sunscreen that is past its expiration date.

I saw a guy on YT. He included a small length of flexible transparent tube. I immediately said to myself. «Hmmm... too dangerous to use that for a transfusion situation when you don't have the knowledge to do the difference between the blood types. Also, on another scenario, you could use a 6-8 inches of flexible tube for a tracheotomy situation if you can handle the life saving situation. But i wonder what would be the diameter of the tube to have in your kit. Because the bigger size it is, the less flexible it will be. I say that because my first aid classes were done about 30 years when i was in the army. Back than, all we needed to do to save a life in that situation was to do a small cut (at the right place) and try to stop the bleeding of the cut you just made; right? Do you see another situation, beside the scenario where you could be stuck under a log and drowning ?» hahaha I had to add this one... GEEE!

Steve are are correct with one thing. Nothing on the market absorbs blood better the feminine products. I know some guys who carry them in their IFAK's and/or bug out bags for gun shot treatment. But a fair WARNING......in a civil unrest/WROL scenario if you use one to put in a GSW once the tampon expands which it is designed to do, when you go to "change out the dressing" you will cause a larger hole and can tear the entry wound causing more damage. CONT...........

Sorry for not getting back with you yesterday, been a busy day here at the hospital. Yeah I'm from Tennessee. I actually took the "Advanced Handgun 2" course down in Talking Rock GA a few months back. Those guys are a great group to train with. I've got a video review of that course as well. Very well priced too. Hey man I run a disaster facebook page too called "Tennessee Disaster Specialists" and I've got a few boys from GA on there. I created the group as a way to share ideas, prepping techniques, videos, etc where people can express their views without the ridicule of the public. It's a closed group so send an invite. I would be able to communicate with you easier and share some additonals ideas with you. Plus it would be another avenue to grow your channel. You have my full support, come on by.

You state that celox "burns", but there is no exothermic reaction related to the product. Do you know something I don't?
@SONofLIBERTY
@SONofLIBERTY 10 жыл бұрын
All of the medics that I know state that the older Celox granular products would essentially cauterize the wounds closed which caused additional pain to the patient and increased the chances of blood clots. The new and improved stuff is not like that at all. When this video was made Celox was starting to make a come back into the medical scene at that time dominated by Quick Clot. Celox is coming out with some very revolutionary medical products. As soon as I get my hands on some I'll try to give my subscribers some feed back.

Thanks Kevin. As far as the tourniquet I get a lot of questions on it. I met a former SEAL medic through some military guys I knew who ran a military/police supply store. He was working with some former Team guys to develop a better tourniquet. I bought this from him 10 years ago but it was a trial run and I've never seen another one like it. I love the history behind it so I always carry it with me. I can't post the link for some reason but it you will search "Prepping for your Truck?" you can see how I stage it in my truck and also see that I transistioned to the SOE IFAK. Thanks for watching and your question.

SONofLIBERTY I believe the SOFTT has aircraft aluminum in it as well as the nylon; seems like that would be the closest thing on the market today. Your thoughts on that particular one? And would you recommend that over the CAT or Ratcheting? Thanks in advance.

John Smith John Im sorry about the late reply. I normally are able to get back to people much quicker but life has had me busy. You are correct, the Soft T is a great comparison and I have serval now and I like them better than the CAT's. If there wasn't a problem with the CAT winlass, then it would have never been "changed" by competitors tourniquet manufacturers
