Hi all Just to add, we’ve found the angle berries on there belly’s fall off after a year or two ( on most ) the main problem is the ones on there quarters “teats”. Some are attached over the spins themselves so milking is impossible. If you don’t feel like posting here you can email us. I’m less liking to miss it then. I’d very much appreciate it and will pass it on all if it works. Go raibh míle maith agat 👍

If the heifer is worth keeping, your vet may be able to laser or freeze them off, but it will cost. That or tying them off is the only thing that will work without treating the virus that causes them

Hi Adrian great job on the house so far. I would be very wary of tying the warts off as you were saying as I lost a smashing heifer years ago after doing this as suggested by my vet. The poor animal got peritonitis and died a few days later despite my best efforts. Good luck with whatever you choose.

Hi Adrian. The vaccine has worked for us but you just have to keep dosing them. I think it is every 3 weeks until they die. Persistence seems to have helped us but you will still get the odd heifer that it is a hopeless case.

From what I’ve read young cattle are susceptible the year after they received colostrum as they get some immunity from the mother & then have to transition to developing their own immune system. The virus can be spread via watering stations etc, and then spreads from infected cattle to clean ones. Might be worth trying to disinfect water tanks etc before running young cattle and separating clean cows from infected ones until their second year if that’s practical?

A possible way to reduce flies is more dung beetles In Australia the only native dung beetles were adapted to dry balls of marsupial poo. So Scientists after careful study imported several species of cow dung beetle eggs. Bred them to adult beetles and distributed them to farmers. Even if you have the right species of dung beetles, if you had more that may reduce the local fly. population.

Nice job pulling the earth away from the back of the building. Judging by the grading you are going to place some sort of paving along the side of the building and around the back as a patio.I suspect the paving will slope away from the building and you will have trench drains or the like where the bank meets the paving to pie rainwater away to daylight in the front of the building. It will be a very sweet cottage when the reno is complete. Perfect for guests or a short term rental.

One spray to run-off should be sufficient. Only if required,, repeat in 7 - 10 days. That usually works okay. It's best if you keep it on hand and get them when they are smaller in size.
