Ifixit 32 bit Driver Moray set with lifetime warranty
Manufacturers link: store.ifixit.c...
For under 20 bucks its fine but the most important bit of the driver feels rough when it shouldn't. Hey it works fine but id like it to feel smooth while I work please! The S2 steel is better than the usual mystery metal in dollar store tier crapola sets at least.
Good start but rethink the cap and the 7 out of 10 would be higher.

Good review. I’ve been looking at the Mahi kit which I think is just the 1/4” version of this kit. Decent prices for decent quality. Everything has pros and cons.

Thanks, I will say you might be ok with the Mahi because they have a metal driver which im guessing has a much smoother cap. I will maybe get one eventually but have a few PB Swiss and Wiha to look at first. I also notice the quarter inch uses 6150 Steel where the 4mm precision is using S2 steel. I am quite picky with precision stuff due to getting annoyed stripping tiny screws with cheaper sets in the past. But I would say this is a nice slim and ok set. I notice they do a version with the aluminum handle which may fair better. Link to aluminum driver version called MAKO: store.ifixit.co.uk/products/mako-driver-kit-64-precision-bits

Cool, thanks! I did want to do a look at my packout system but then I've got so many to sets here and there. One in a van, one in a work store one near my desk, one in my house, one in the garage. Maybe I should stars giving some away. But I think I will try and do a quick look at some of my stuff as it might give since cool ideas or show since interesting kit.

The thing I like the most is you can get an iFixit set for $20. I do want to get the Pro Tech Tool kit, but this should be ok as my first iFixit set. As I am doing some maintenance on my laptop, but the last screw just won’t come out. Just one screw is holding the heatsink in. As I’m going to repaste the CPU and GPU as well as heatsink copper shims to help get the heat off the VRM’s. Between running the copper heatsink shims, and repasting the CPU and GPU should drastically increase my performance. As in War Thunder my RTX 2070 frequency can drop as low as 400MHz, when it’s supposed to be around 1800MHz under load.

I have a couple of Ifixit drivers, but don't use them much. As I am not popping open laptops anymore... I spend a good deal of time working on pocket knives, I need something more robust. Often I am using a long Titanium driver I got from Country Comm and a Wera - 5051272001 Kraftform 813 R Hexagon Bitholding Screwdriver, love the Rapidator Quick-Release Chuck, As far as this type of kit, I used a Wiha 75992 System 4 Precision Bit Set, it became more useful after replacing the ESD Safe driver with a standard Wiha driver. Thanks for this review, I don't think I have seen a better review of the ifixit set.

I agree with you I love the rapidaptor it just works so well. I had not seen the Wiha 75992 System 4 before but it looks slim and capable. I have a Wiha kit to look at and review but I've not even tried it yet so I don't want to comment on it until I give it a fair try out at home and work. What was crap about the driver? The kit I will be looking at from Wiha has the yellow ESD handle.

@@TrailTrek the ESD driver / holder was very poorly made, would not securely hold the bits.

I would say unfair to compare to pb Swiss but then I remembered this is a review always good to compare a way more expensive tool so I agree with the 7 you gave it

Very true mate. I mean where I live the PB Swiss is way more expensive so it's bound to be better, it's become a bit of a benchmark for very nice and well made. I'm hoping the sets from ifixit that use a different driver are better, they do others with an aluminium driver which im guessing is better. I have a small Wiha set to look at and then I'll try to get the other Ifixit stuff. Cheers for the support mate I hope that you have a great day. 😁👍

Would love for you to take a look at the ifixit minnow kit, its made to be a pocketable kit for quick use.
@TrailTrek
@TrailTrek Жыл бұрын
That minnow kit looks extremely pocketable. I have had this Moray in a side pocket on stretchy slim fit jeans but its getting slightly big for too much carry like that so the minnow would be better for that and it has all of the basics in there that you might need. Im a little put off by it having the same driver as the moray though. I have just had massive manta set land in my lap to test and the metal drivers in there are lovely and smooth, I feel they need to replace all the plastic ones and only supply that version of the driver in all sets including the Moray and Minnow. What you could do however is buy a kit like the Mako which has the lovely aluminum driver and take out only the heads you need then stick them in a maxpedition micro or something. Il do my best to see if i can get a set but i already have about 8 things in my tool pile as it is to look at. hope thats of some help mate.

I hate when products say the "designed in America" "Made in China" so dumb and misleading about what kind of quality you'll get. Great review. Hoping to get into electronics repair as a hobby. Just snagged one of these.

Agree with you completely. and Thank you so much for the kind praise. Good luck with the work it will be very rewarding you picks a good bit of kit with all of the useful heads this has.

"Made in China" is not indicative of the kind of quality you get. The fact that you paid less than 20 bucks is. The thing is, the Chinese will make you absolutely perfect, top-of-the-line stuff, if you are willing to pay the top-of-the-line money. If you pay shit, you will get shit. Just like everywhere else. Shocker.
