Everyone thought the availability of self service repair would bring change, but Apple still make some baffling decisions in terms of repairability. At least the digitizer is still separate and relatively easy to repair. That's probably the part that most people break most often.

3:49 Imagine your car tires being glued shut to your wheel axles. You are completely right - consumables should be easily replaceable to keep you going, not leave you stuck and incapacitated.
@hishnash2 жыл бұрын
Im assuming you mean car wheel being not tier. Very few consumers have the equipment to correctly replace a car tire, we can swap out a spar wheel but the needed tools to properly replace a tier on a week and do it properly so that there is no dirt/grime etc in the seal is non trivial. In fact many tiers do use a form of glue like martial to bond/seal that needs some heat to remove. The last thing you want is any dirty making its way into that seal.

@@em0_tion true while one would not glue to sneaker shues to your feet as you might want to change what you are wearing the soles on all sues made in the last 200+ years have been glued (and sometimes also sown). the use of glue has many functions but one of the most common is to ensure a seal to stop water, dust etc. Glue in most situations can be removed (like the glue used to seal the screen or battery in an iPad) but as a user case. I see many people wanting batteries to be screwed down but the nature of lithium batteries is that if you put a single point of pressure (such as a screw) into them when they expand they become spicy and start to smoke/burn, (and all of these batteries at some point expand). So gluing (with pull tabs) a battery on one side is the best option as this does not provide and localised compression points on the battery when it does expand (they all expand at some point). It is much better for the battery to gradually push open a device. Just think of how many of these devices will be forgotten at the bottom of peoples draws etc in 10 years time when the batteries start to swell. It is very important that when this happens the swelling can happen without starting a fire, by just gluing the back of the battery in when the battery expands there is uniform pressure across the battery and that pressure is low enough that the expansion can slowly pop of the screen (as the alternative is starting a fire).

Manufacturing cost and capacity. Building the cable and welding it to the board can be all done on an automated production like. @@FlorianWendelborn Doesn't matter, if they can produce an adaptor for the pen, they can add some magnets to the back of the iPad for charging a pen. Magnets are cheap, they already have produced the wireless charging for the other iPads, they just need to move the magnets from one position to another, the work has been done before.

The fact that it moved the camera makes me sad... I know I'm not the only user... but for me, a tablet doesn't replace a laptop... so I always used it portrait mode anyways... so moving the camera wasn't a good move for me... and it'd have allowed space for the pencil...

1:34 bud, they hire a team of engineers that get paid somewhere in the realm of 200-500k per person. If they wanted the cool pencil on their cheap device, they would have made it that way. There is a reason it is there. That reason is profit.
