It should, and has in the past with True Tone. It’s just a matter of a compatible reprogrammer being made.

There's a programmer which can write the serial number onto the screen so that true tone can be activated again. Wonder if this could restore the faceID as well.

Even then you can still get it fixed!- Batteries and screens for the SE 2020 are no more than $20 each in the cost of parts, it's a great phone AND it doesn't have the same level of anti repair built in!!

Yep! A lot of those people are just too accustomed to iOS, as far as I know, as some people in my family are. A few years ago, I tried to get my dad to try Android, but only really older versions of stock Android and One UI, not any of the few known Chinese manufacturer UXs that attempt to make Android feel more like iOS.

Does parts pairing prevent thieves from making money off stolen, iCloud locked devices ? I feel safer thinking that thieves stealing my devices wouldn't be able to resell/extract value ! But it does come at the cost of necessarily more strict control of the repair chain.

This just works if it's a theft. If it's a robbery, the thief can make you disable the iCloud before handing the iPhone and all this "security" means nothing. Happened to me a couple of years ago when I was in a empty bus stop at night.

If manufacturers aren't going to make significant changes to their models, they should just keep selling the same models for the same prices instead of hiking them up over $1000 for the same designs. When I had Android phones I would upgrade anytime something cool or revolutionary came out... with Apple (I get my phone through work and they pay the bill) I'm staying with my XR until it dies and then I'll probably go with the previous year Pro model since there isn't a big difference usually, but price can be $1000 less at this point

So basically a stolen iPhone isn’t good even as parts, and this is good, however the way Apple implemented this is bad. iPhones should periodically get a list of devices marked as stolen and refuse to work if such parts are installed. However they need to make it so that non stolen phones can be used as parts.

Nice to see others show how faceid works under infrared modified cameras. I also believe they are tracking what you view because in my tests, I used IG and the lights flash when you stop to look at a picture. Scrolling doesn’t do anything until you stop. Infrared is also under explored as the light can cause damage to your vision especially since you can’t see it. Just know when your phone screen is on that the lights are there flashing.
