“The airplane is a terrible classroom. Learn everything we can on the ground.” - Well said! Thanks for your great videos Jason!

Hey Jason, always enjoy your videos. You can go into procedures in ForeFlight and load the approach it will give you all the fixes from the IAF’s or vectors.

Jason, you are INCREDIBLE!!! I learned so much in this video. More than with my instructors. :)

Glad to see you support Avidyne. Even though I own a Garmin, I hope Avidyne knocks them down few notches. BTW, my wife is your customer. She got a 90% pass on her Instrument written, a 100% on her IGI, and a 100% on her CFII as a result of your courses (and her hard work studying, of course).

Remember, you cannot amend the ATC (CRAFT) routing received. So the way to do it is in preflight route planning and then file the routing recommended in ForeFlight or what you ‘hope’ to fly. Regardless, you are expected to fly the clearance as issued.

Nice video! Always super informative. Love all your videos! You can also select the runway and then approach in Foreflight and it will draw it all for you.

I have done that via the procedure button in Foreflight as well. Very cool!

How do you like to add your alternate airport? You can add the plates to the route only for the LAST airport. I didn’t find a good way yet for alternates.

Amazing tool, ForeFlight... sure wish it existed in my flying days back in the late 60's - 70's it would have made route planning much better

When you added the IAF and the IF on ForeFlight, is that what you would file or are you doing that for situation awareness on the iPad?
@debylijoki5026 Жыл бұрын
This is exactly the KZbin video I was looking for! However, I don’t see the ‘Map’ button next to the approach I’m trying to add to my map. Is there a setting I need to change in ForeFlight? Or, maybe this feature isn’t available for all approaches? I do see the phone # to local pizza place listed under info tab though. 😂

Don (see his comment) provides a good clarification - the as-cleared flight is the loss-comm flight path ATC expects. Jason's point is to be well prepared and briefed before taking off. However, keep the as-cleared plan saved on the iPad or otherwise handy in case you go loss-comm. Talking to follow pilots and a few CFII's I get mixed signals on adding the IAF for the mostly likely forecasted approach in the filed flight plan. I personally think this makes great sense and have been doing it. However, Clearance Delivery (KPAE) has twice given me an amended clearance that took me straight to the local VOR (on the airport) or to the airport. This gives me the impression that I should be filing direct to the airport or airport's VOR. Is this happening to anyone else? Why does ATC want to remove the IAF from my filed flight plan? FYI: In both cases there did not seem to be any NOTAMs or TFR's that restricted the approach, and once in the air I wound up flying an approach from the IAF I had originally filed. All very interesting.

Jason, is this possible with the Garmin 430? Always have to put all of the waypoints in seperately.
@derekpierson86985 жыл бұрын
I'm hoping someone can answer this as well. It would be a bit of a pain to plug in each waypoint individually.
@chuckdavis32475 жыл бұрын
With this older technology that does not accept Victor airways, you have to enter any waypoints where the course changes direction. There is/was a system that would input the course with all the waypoints, but I don't remember what that system is. Depending on how quickly things might be happening, I typically input the major waypoints on the ground and then edited the flightplan while enroute. Now that we can see the full route on the ground (via fltplan.com or ForeFlight) I would enter it all before departure.

New to Foreflight and purchased basic subscription. When I follow along this video, I have to upgrade to $299/yr subscription to overlay the plate on the map. Ouch. No can do. Another way? Still learning here!
@MzeroAFlightTraining4 жыл бұрын
There is no other way to have the map overlayed. This is something that comes with that subscription level. You can have the plate loaded in the plates but you will need to switch back and forth from the map view to the plates.

Nice stuff Jason.! I think holding and dragging the numbers is an iPad function rather than Foreflight. (I know... picky picky)

This is true, but since ForeFlight is only available on iOS, every FF user will have this keyboard.

As always, I love your videos, Jason! I'm curious though why you didn't go to FPL section and choose to add the instrument approach as a procedure? I would have done exactly what you did up to that point but instead of putting in the approach waypoints "by hand" I would have just appended the whole instrument procedure at the end of the FP. It's also easy enough to delete the procedure if you get another once you arrive.
