The difficulty of flying into Amsterdam Schiphol with frontal conditions, resulting in an approach to minimums. Deeply fulfilling, yet a challenge that took extensive planning and concentration.

Single pilot, single engine IFR is a challenge! Well done mate. I would consider not transmitting at 350' that you see the runway. Its too much distraction, chance that you push a different a switch than the transmit switch and who cares if you see the runway. You are cleared to land.

It’s not 400 ft on the QNH - it’s 400 ft AAL. Height check is best done distance vs height, not height vs distance. E.g “we’re at 1650’ should be 5 miles” not “5 miles should be at 1650’”. If there’s a glide slope issue it might be too late!
@TheFlyingVLOG3 ай бұрын
Is that because it's an airport below sea level? Thanks for the tip regarding distance vs height. But should it not be altitude as the Jepp refers it to altitude on the range checks
@Reivilo13 ай бұрын
Wow! Isn't there a better place to fix your EFB? It seems to be bright in your face during the critical phase of the approach?
@TheFlyingVLOG3 ай бұрын
Hi, Thanks for watching. It's the best place for it as I found that having the tablet on my knee was too disorientating during training. The brightness thing is because I removed the filter on the GoPro and the exposure has blown out.
@peterderidder65493 ай бұрын
Amsterdam is one of the easiest airports to go IFR to. Radar vectors, no obstacles nor terrain, well lighted and excellent ATC. Dutch efficiency everywhere. The only difficult thing: it is horrible expensive. Try a french LPV with PCL somewhere lost in the fields.
@TheFlyingVLOG3 ай бұрын
It's not as expensive as other major airports. FRA or PAR are x4 the cost for example. I do want to try more challenging places like Bilbao or something.

Haha! It wasn't that intense till we established on the ILS, and you realise you've got to trust the instruments as you hurtle towards the ground. Schiphol are a very professional bunch and accommodate light GA very well.
