It introduces them slow enough that you can't help but grasp it that way. R2 is the universal button, then it's 0 for shield, x for sword, left on D-pad for those shuriken things, down for smoke etc. and once it starts flowing it's actually epic. That, plus a maxed out standoff streak with levelled up Sakai armour = ripping through mongol territories feeling like a badass.

That mnemonic device for remembering the stances! I trusted the game to teach them, but wow. Crossed swords, triangular tip of a spear, circular shields, square for brutes. Got it. That's easily the best tip I've ever seen in a gaming video. Or just a brilliant design by Sucker Punch. Either way, that was the one part of gameplay I was cautiously optimistic about, now I'm just keen to get started. Edit: And I see I'm hardly the only one who rushed to comment praise for the stances tip. Nice to see the positivity.

If you Want to maximize your stats in a fight. Change outfits constantly. if you're using stealth and archery make sure you got your archery outfi on. when you're in sword fights change to your samurai or Ronin outfits. And when you're traveling have your travel outfits on.

I dunno if anyone else has said this, but a small detail I've noticed in my game is that archers only have an audio tell if there are other enemies around for them to warn to get down (they actually crouch when the warning goes out, which I think is cool.) But with no other enemies, there's no shout, which can cause problems if you haven't spotted the archer. I took a lot of damage tonight coz there was an archer perched on a roof that I'd missed and he'd stopped calling out coz I'd killed everyone else. I suggest unlocking the parry projectiles ability as soon as you can, being able to block them instead of relying on dodge, which can be mistimed, is super helpful, especially if you're in the middle of a group ^_^ Youre mnemonic for remembering the stances was really great, by the way, nice one :)

setting the game on hard really helped me read and memorize enemy move sets, sound queues, etc. might even try lethal, but i'll obv die very often which is okay for me, but respawning in this game after death is like the game sometimes forgets the previous encounter like nothing happened
