1:40 “As soon as you start that spell or ability, swap over to a new character” This is a great tip. I’ve found in the demo that you can even switch from Cloud mid-combo to Barret to charge his gun during Cloud’s slower Operator mode 3rd strike, then switch back to Cloud for the 4th and 5th hit. Edit: I just watched another great video from user KZbin user 8a6y Here a few things mentioned that I didn't realize: - Dodging slows your ATB charge - When switching from Punisher to Operator, use that swing that comes out to continue a combo - Switch stances to end the Braver animation earlier - Charge gun to end spell animation earlier - Some enemies pressured by certain attacks, not damage - Some enemies pressured by accumulated damage, not attack type - The things that apply pressure are different than the things that build stagger - Triangle abilities during Staggered fill the ATB gauge much faster

Yeah there's lots of times swapping around is useful AF. There are boss battles where they automatically attack the controlled character, so setting up a heal spell or prayer and then swapping out so the healer doesn't get interrupted is handy too.

Also, if using Barret, you can charge your special move at the end of his normal attack and it basically takes no time at all. Very handy for sections where he's not with cloud or tifa and has to do the damage himself

Number 11, put auto cure on your healer and cast haste on them so they always have atb when you need it, and you no longer need to worry about healing yourself (normal mode, cant comment on hard yet).

I love this combat system. Analyze, adapt, destroy. Only fights I didn't like much were Reno and Rude, mostly Rude. Didn't have his elemental weakness equipped, and the dude just does not care. Attacking? He'll super-armor and combo you. Guarding? Command grab. Dodge roll? He attacks again and hits you anyway. I'm all for having to adapt and learn, but didn't seem like there was any correct answer besides "have the right magic equipped beforehand, Kappa." I could still be missing something, but man that fight pissed me off.

Really? I've completed the game and I'm on my 2nd play through now and it seems to me that by far the easiest way to commit to combat is to have Tifa and cloud spamming auto attacks whilst maxing them out for auto attack damage weapons, upgrades and materia. Tifas metal knuckle has nearly 200 damage on my save and she 3 hits just about everything. No need to ever use abilities except for the forced magic fights (leviathan)

@@WaffleOnTheRun Well that's factually incorrect since you can get very close to aeriths magic attack power with any of the other 3 characters by equipping the right gear and weapon upgrades. Personally I prefer to stack Cloud and Tifa up so I don't have to have slow charging spells that can be easily interrupted. Instead I can just hit square a few times and melt everything. You keep using Aerith, I'm not telling you how to play, I just think the game is a bit easy to just gear people towards attack stat and button mash to victory.

Secondly, the person who was complaining about spoilers on this video was talking about game design/envirronement spoiler rather than story one. What I like to do is, put first attack materia to someone, and cast regen to all the party members immediately when the hard battle starts, trust me it saves so much headache, I always make sure that my party has regen all the time so I can focus my next ATB's for more offensive measure Then cast barrier/manawall whatever, to Aerith / Tifa, or any of your characters that you think is weaker and at risk of dying, usually barrier to Aerith tho, cz her def is pathetic

this game's normal difficulties is really hard, probably the hardest in all FF games. the issue is that the difficulty level jump dramatically around the mid point (start with the hunted house in chapter 9) for all the boss fight. never had i felt so nervous when approaching new empty ground, which typically means i will die a few times and wasted a few hours.

The atb meter is actually pretty fast to fill. Abuse the damn thing. Switch characters often. Yes. That would actually save u from dying because most AI do is guarding so they could be a tank with u keep button mashing. Use other characters spell n have them use items instead of ur own controlled character.

Each character is literally like their own unique fighting game character, & each is completely unique. It's a great idea to learn exactly how each character operates so you can use them efficiently. You should ALWAYS be swapping between characters in battle!

It's actually best to cast spells when NOT controlling a character, via the menu. Controlling a character tends to aggro enemies to attack said character, so you don't want to be controlling the spell caster at that time.

You have to fill up your ATB for spells or items. Pretty much all you can do without ATB is your standard attack. Camera angles are shitty though. Targeting is rough. But it's no worse than Kingdom Hearts

Did not know that Tifa's charge attacks increase stagger %, she even has an ATB ability that says it increases stagger % but has so far NOT done that in the 10hrs since I've unlocked it. Stagger also doesn't last very long, sometimes if I start Cloud's "Infinity's End" move an enemy will have been staggered and recovered before he actually deals the blow. I'm still getting the hang of this game's mechanics.

Does anyone know which Attribute strenghtens Abilities like Braver, Focused Thrust, Starshower, Focussed Shot etc.? Ingame Manual says Strength enhances sword/Gun/glove attacks and magic attack all magic spells and abilities, so is Braver counted as Sword Attack or as Ability? And my tip: Read the Ingame Manual in the Menu, it gives you a little more information than the pop up tutorials, reminds you of some things you may have forgotten and is actually fun to read:) For example I did not know that with L2 you can switch Minimap/Compass and Nothing!

This combat actually seems a lot like FF13 but with button mashing instead of auto attack. I'm glad its not modeled after 15's combat. They should have used the much better designed status icons from FF12 as well, most of them were intuitive without needing to look them up.

Every numbered final fantasy is it's own story. For example X is not the same story as VII. But there are FFs with multiple parts. X as an X-2 for example. XIII is a trilogy. This remake will most likely be a trilogy too.

So many jrpg games ruined for me with this shitty action combat. If I want action,I would play sekiro. If I want strategy turn based, I want to play a jrpg. There is WAY to few of them now

You're so wrong there, my man. Trust me, there is so much strategy to the game's combat, the demo does not remotely do it justice. I promise you, there is just as much strategy as a Valkyria Chronicles.

@@Buggy2hot idk, i was never a fan of action based jrpg games. its supposed to be the "modern" gameplay style. but i love games like dragon quest and fire emblem for example. xenoblade didnt do it for me and astral chain also not

One more tip. Block with punisher mode on, because it makes Cloud auto counter. Block a lot, this games really hard, too hard imo.

I was hoping someone could clarify exactly what 'fixed' and 'proportional' types of damage do in FF7R are as they appear in the combat analyzer but it doesn't say in the manual exactly how they work and what they are, I can't find what they mean/do anywhere on the internet anyone know?

I suppose _proportional_ damage comes from attacks that to do 25%/50%/75% of your current or max HP (in previous FFs there was the *Gravity* magic for instance). So the damage received is independent of your defense stats.

I'm a below average gamer, and vaguely aware of the game from the past, but can't get into it enough because it's so goddamn difficult. Looking for any way to learn and lessen the difficulty. Just played it for an hour and already stuck at the point where you're supposed to blow the reactor

There is an easy mode. Take the time to read about the mechanics of the game or inform yourself on the stuff that you don't perfectly understand yet.
