What I always do with new sketchbooks is that I skip right to the back page and test supplies (watercolours, markers etc.), to make sure the paper can handle what I like to use. Then for the first page I draw what I like :) Love how the mountain painting turned out!

Such a great idea to test your mediums at the back!

Thank you for the tips 🥰 I don't really have a tip to share but I used to share a looot of my messy sketchbook pages online just to make others feel better about their sketchbooks 😂

Your painting is lovely. I find if I have an expensive sketchbook such as Etchr, I avoid it for months whereas less expensive sketchbooks I will just get to it. I had an art teacher who once said think of your art which you aren’t planning on giving to someone or selling as ‘practice art’ . The purpose of Practice art is enjoyment and experimentation and it’s the reason we all started being creative. I approach my new sketchbooks (not Etchr) as practice art and go from the front to the back cover. It lets me see how my skills change over time. The concept of ‘Practice Art’ takes the pressure off for me from trying to produce ‘perfect art’ because I am just practicing painting or drawing I don’t know if that will help someone but it helped me.

Have you tried the Jackson’s watercolour sketchbook? Looking for a decent budget version of a cotton sketchbook. Eg how does it compare to Paul Rubens or Khadi
