Let me tell you guys about a real hero, 15 year old Anthony Borges, he’s a Parkland shooting survivor. When the gunman was coming down the hall, Borges was trying to get the door locked, but he couldn’t. In that moment, he decided to hold the door to protect his classmates and teacher. The gunman shoot Borges five times before he moved on. After the shooting Borges was taken to a hospital and after several surgeries, he survived. But why was Borges willing to do this? He said this: “I did it because, as I was going to die, I wanted to give my last moment to the people so they could save themselves and enjoy life longer.” That Ignited, is how you should be creating your heroes.

@@jcdelgado5377 No. He really didn't. He said the African-American creator of the video was a "sick, borderline white supremacist" and that everything said against the book was based on "faked artwork". He didn't address the book's problems with promoting violence at all really. He basically said that all the violence was equal to "pushing back against gun violence in all its forms". So when the "heroes" destroy someone's house in the first issue as a political revenge attack, Its just pushing back. When the guy with the green hair grabs and crushes a guys' balls from behind at school, that has something to do with pushing back against gun violence. When the heroes make demands of the school behind the threat that they will make all the teachers and staff physically ill if their demands are not met, that is "pushing back". When they attack a crowd of people violently, thats "pushing back". And when they injure the police officers who show up in response to their attack on the crowd, that was apparently "pushing back" too. The book is what it is. Its an immature and violent political revenge fantasy that is openly promoting political terrorism as a valid political method. The author can try to hide behind Trump, but anyone who sees the actual comic will have a tough time defending the content on the page. When they, for example, carry out fragmentation attacks which the text of the book specifically says injured multiple police officers, its really going to be hard to explain how fighting police responding to an emergency is "pushing back against gun violence". What makes the comic sick is that is basically saying that what the Parkland 5 did in terms of non-violent politics was a waste of time. The message of the book is that non-violent politics are something people engage in only because they lack the strength to carry out real acts of violence. It is VERY much a progressive version of the Turner Diaries. A paranoid fantasy where the premise is written simply to make political violence more acceptable to the audience.

Death and murder are only sins if it comes from the head of someone other than you, and this book seems nothing at all more than that.

So a misguided (at best) youth lacking psychological fortitude to control themselves and having dictatorial tendency to enforce own views through force and violence are considered now a hero materials? Well... Damn. In any normal scenario those heroes would either turn into redeemable but guilt ridden heroes in future or downright villains with megalomaniac origin. Few years ago I would be surprised and think that it was just lazy writing without thinking... but now... I honestly feel disgusted. Do not misunderstand me: there can be an interesting story with a downright nutjob villain as a main character. Out of most recent examples I would probably note "Ijousha no Ai" and while main cast is deeply disturbed to say the least - it is an interesting, well built, believable, engaging and fluent story. What it haves though is self-awareness, and not only of 'how evil' is main character but how flawed is every other one. Same time while main character is horribly twisted we still get a peek into her mind, motivations and ultimately : twisted form of humanity. But the most annoying thing is that all the vile behaviour of main cast in Ignited seems to be shrugged under the rug and ignored... despite being shown. It's daring attempt to say the least. It reminds me of "The Naked Gun" 'nothing to see here' scene.
@Jim-Tuner5 жыл бұрын
These sorts of scenario are most typical in films about students (usually in the 1960s) becoming radicalized and becoming terrorists. The students start out protesting something political. There is violence and the police intervene which leads to more violence. It escalates until they are robbing banks, planting bombs, doing kidnappings and so no. They gradually transition from political motivations to criminal ones. The comic book reminds me of the German film "baader meinhof complex" about the Red Army Faction terrorists.

What the authors of this comic book don't realize is that guns as a form of technology can serve as an equalizer. Japan was wary about allowing guns to come into their country because it would undermine their way of life, Fuedalism with the Samurai as a protected class, since guns would make everyone equal and Samurai all but obsolete. In the legend of Korra, think about how easy it would have been for non benders to protect themselves from benders if they simply had guns. Not even guns that were as advanced as the 20s, even if they had guns that were as low tech as flint lock muskets or maybe revolvers and repeaters from the wild west days, it would still give them enough power to make a bender think twice. When you have a minority, a select few breakaway society of people who have powers that most people can't get on their own (especially if there's a bloodline involved passing it down), you're asking to bring about some kind of feudalism or oligarchy. The bloodlines that inherit mutations, super powers, or magical abilities will end up ruling over everyone else as Aristocracy over some kind of peasantry. This is one criticism I have against X-men: people with super powers would become Gods, oppressors, or the puppets of sycophants way before they would become victims. They would be in the back pocket of the ruling elite or organized crime, if they didn't completely take over those things, too. They would sit atop their mount Olympus while the rest of humanity was exploited. A super powered minority is not easy to oppress, and people will overlook their prejudices for love of power. The only way to stop them from taking over and establishing some kind of ethnocentric feudal oligarchy over the rest of humanity is if 1) Humanity had an equalizing force of technology that would balance things out and 2) if there was a system set up to train any mutants/benders/wizards/jedi to see themselves as public servants, people who were gifted with extra unique powers that were mean't to serve mankind (kind of like the Jedi Temple or Ministry of Magic)...or at the very least, not exploit mankind. I say all this because the ironic thing is, these super powered anti gun kids might actually bring about another medieval dark age of a weakened populace groveling at the feet of super powered individuals and their handlers/sycophants like they were gods, getting exploited like subhuman peasants. Not a very progressive endgame.

Came here from Diversity and Comics video on this last night. I honestly think this is 2019's BORDERTOWN. An all around B-A-D bad comic book that's made solely for the author's disturbing wet dreams. Also, I'm honestly numb to public shootings these days not because of the innocent lives lost, but because the media and government cares more about exploiting a tragedy than actually doing something about this shit.

Did, uh, did nobody who edited this comic catch that “¡Viva la revolution!” (which I suppose from the inverted exclamation point is meant to be Spanish) should properly be “¡Viva la REVOLUCIÓN!”? I mean, even an alabaster gringo like myself knew that much. Was it too much trouble for Mark and Kwanza, if they were going to make themselves spokesmen for the illegal alien community, at least to get the language right?

I could write a better script than this, and I'm not a veteran of the industry. Try this on for size. We have a sixth character-white guy, poor, wrong side of the tracks sort of guy. Think back when Matt Damon was still the edgy Boston boy from "Good Will Hunting"-he's smart (perfect scores on his SATs), handsome in a "Irish Rage" sort of way, but he's angry. Raised by his grandfather, because his Dad did something stupid and only got out of jail a few years ago. The character and Dad are trying hard to connect and make sense of each other. His big signature item is his genuine MA-1 flight jacket with the right patches (his Grandfather's, he was a Huey pilot during Vietnam). Not going to University, because he wants to be an engineer and he can't go to school because he's just enough to not qualify for anything-he's too rich (HA!), too heterosexual, too white, doesn't have any victim credits you could use. And, he's not going to be stuck with thirty years with loans he can't pay off. So, you'd almost expect HIM to be one of the shooters. But, his Grandfather died last year, and he isn't going to disappoint his Grandfather. So, when the school shooting happened-he snuck up behind one of the guys shooting, whacks the guy in the head with a baseball bat, takes his gun, and shoots the other two guys. Puts the gun down, sits as far away from it as he can, and calls the cops to tell them where he is and what happened. And...the cops note that he probably saved lives. We're playing him at the Only Sane Man in this whole thing. The protagonists exclude him afterwards, because he's still this edgy, non-woke, whip-smart white boy that doesn't want to be with the Popular Kids. Then, he discovers what his power is. He can manipulate metal, plastic, and make and fix machines, no matter how big or how small. His brain writes computer code like Shakespeare writes sonnets, in the blink of an eye. Human bodies confuse him, he can't do anything with them. But, if it isn't flesh, he can do something with it. First big use of his power is when one of the people he lives near (let's hit the check boxes and say Hispanic woman, working mom) needs a shade-tree mechanic and he figures out that the engine block is cracked. Car's not going anywhere. Then, he fixes it. Nothing...dramatic, but it damn near knocks him out when he fixes the engine block and quite a bit more of the engine and the rest of the car when he does so. The more he uses his power, the more complicated stuff he can do and the more stuff he can create. By about issue #3, he's built a suit of powered armor (think Mk II Iron Man, but can't fly and isn't armed...yet) and a motorcycle that can carry it. He hears on the radio that some cops are pinned down by gang-bangers and he goes to rescue them, doing a Mook Horror Show scene that would be better in a horror film than a superhero film. And, as the protagonists are becoming villains and "making people do the RIGHT THING!" by all of the things they've done, he's sitting in his workshop and goes, "Well, s**t. I've got to do the right thing, then." Then, we have the big dance number when he goes after the protagonists and wins.

Yeah, the part about law enforcement not doing anything about the threats to teachers is a crock. There's a middle school near me which used to be a real toxic waste dump (I speak from experience, having subbed there once), but turned things around after getting a major reality check. Near the end of the 2016- 2017 school year, a bunch of kids planned on the last day of school to start a riot on campus; Some students were going to bring water balloons full of urine, others were going to bring guns. Fortunately, one student grew enough of a conscience that he told a teacher what was being planned, and they got a huge police presence on school the last day to ensure the planned "Purge" never happened. Thankfully, that was a wake- up call that led to the school turning itself around and it's better now. Yet, in this crock of a comic, no law enforcement offices care about a mass threat to teachers? Gag.

Is the actual Kwanza really a fake holiday or is it just a joke?
@MadRelique5 жыл бұрын
It is. Kwanza was created in 1966 by a black power activist/scholar with the intention of making it the first pan African holiday .
@Jim-Tuner5 жыл бұрын
It was a fake holiday created by a guy from Maryland as an "African" alternative to Christmas. Its a mix of a bunch different pseudo-african things re-interpreted by an American who didn't totally understand his source material. His degree was in political science. The essential premise behind it when it was created was (according to the creator) that ""you must have a cultural revolution before the violent revolution."
