the problem with good stories is that they require you to leave something up to the interpretation of the reader. The really, REALLY tragic thing is that if this was written as a cautionary story of how people get radicalized due to an uncompromising idea that they are right, it would be absolutely phenomenal. Hell, I would buy all the issues and support a two follow-ups. A series following a similar story from the extreme right side who are triggered because of the actions of this group, and then a final series where Arizona gets torn apart when these two super powered teams go at one another with no care about the collateral damage to the towns and cities they duke it out in. That would be timely and thought provoking...but Wade and company can not give an inch, so it won't happen.

I kind of wonder if the artist for the book isn't secretly a centrist or Right-leaning, because while the dialogue and writing paints the "heroes" as being justified, the art is showing them to be violent psychopaths. The artist makes the crowd diverse, the artist makes the people with guns not point them at the folks attacking them, the art is making these kids look even worse than they already do. Mark and Kwanza might have been secretly infiltrated by someone not insane.

I was wondering that too. Waid and Kwanzaa don't strike me as the best writers, so I doubt they even thought about giving much in the way of action directions. (Which, traditionally, the writer does for the artist so that the artist isn't forced to basically write the comic and slot in the dialogue) And that implies that the artist did the art that way intentionally 🤣

Ya know, I remember a time when villains attacked first, and the heroes would simply respond. The X-Men were literally hated by most of humanity, yet Rouge never drained the life out of them just because they were talking shit. Professor-X could have literally killed all humans with Cerebro, but all he wanted was a peaceful existence between humans and Mutants alike, regardless of the fact most people wanted them dead or imprisoned somehow. Waid and Osajyefo could really learn a thing or two from old school comics.

I think they could have saved this if they were self aware about what they were writing. A group of kids get traumatized by a horrible event. Suddenly they gain powers. Now they want to save the world but instead they're causing people beneath them the same trauma. Even if the rally people did shoot back it would be an interesting development to see the characters realize how powerful they were. Now they became exactly what they hated. And then write a story around that!

That's a pretty good assessment. The mouse has it's claws into 75% of what we call entertainment whether it's Marvel, Pixar, ABC broadcasting, ESPN, and now even 20th Century Fox. I am completely convinced that Disney has created the vast majority of the propaganda we've been force-fed. Waid and Kwanza are examples of how they are making the actual villany of our world into heroic statements, like Zoe Quinn, who was responsible for making accusations that led to a guy committing suicide, and she gets rewarded by this act with a new series by DC Comics. Our world has been turned upside down.

A while back he tore JLA: Cry For Justice a new one, and one of the things he criticized it for was attempting to create a proactive super hero team. He rightfully said that justice, by nature, is *reactive,* because someone has to do something first in order for justice to be meted out. Otherwise you just have a bunch of Super-Powered Fascists running around yelling “JUSTICE!!” all the time.
