The Whitfield family had several homes. They owned the Mines and land at Kitts when I was a kid. Remember meeting Jack once when we came back to visit Harlan in 1972 just before I graduated high school. Must not have had any heirs.

The Dupree family lived there in the 1940s and 1950s (maybe later). They might have been related to the Whitfield family.

It is a beautiful place and it needs is a little lipstick and rouge ....I heard that line in a Kevin Costner movie , can't remember the name of the movie, let me go search and see if I can find what movie it's from and I'll edit it in later !! Love Y'alls videos ! I FOUND IT, it was a line from the movie "the war" 1994 Awesome movie !! I highly recommend it, it is set in rural Mississippi, and Kevin Costner comes back from Vietnam a changed man !!

They also owned quite a bit of property in Harlan, as a matter of fact they owned the property the Whitfield public library sits on they donated it to the city for the library that's why it's named after them
