For those that have a meter that had auto range for ohms it’s not that confusing, for those that have a meter with varied fixed ohms ranges it get confusing for which range to use when testing!

The high voltage lead of a magneto is a secondary, not a primary. The primary is charged by the magnets on the flywheel at low voltage, and through the laminated core it steps up the voltage at low current.

Thannx,,,In newer vids I explain this more effectively. All of my repairs I go through this, if a coil is bad electrically its junk. Here is a quick question Why when testing an ignition coil it has great spark with a spark tester...BUT with a spark plug...weak or No spark...6 plugs tried
@TheNovaJohn2 жыл бұрын
As a Guess because I'm not there observing; if the tester has an alligator clamp, then its making a good ground or connection. Check the coil with an ohmmeter. Also check the plugs with an ohmmeter too. In the description is a link to my new video on the subject.
@rickeykeeton714 жыл бұрын
Do the coils have a primary and secondary sides to check, or is it just primary and ground terminal for shutoff? Watch one video where the guy called one primary, the other secondary as if there were 2 sets of windings or something. Can a bad coil cause a weedeater not to rev up? This is assuming the carburetor is good.
@TheNovaJohn4 жыл бұрын
These coils (Armatures) dont really have a secondary or primary, there is one side as an output with "High Tension" that connects to the spark plug, many people consider this to be the "Primary" Lead. In the old days the coil was wired differently, they used points and that triggered the secondary. Now there is an electronic system inside and we connect the control wire that gets grounded to the engine. If you look at the OHM meter you can see the reading is very close when measured between ground and plug wire vs ground and trigger connector. If one or both of the readings is off as I describe in the video its either bad or its dirty. Hard to say what causes a small 2 stroke to not rev, take a meter to the coil, typically it should read around 2-5k and it will work. I have heard that some coils wont make top RPM Also check the Hi side adjustment on the carb Make sure the suction tube is clear and the filter isnt clogged, blow through it, any restriction will cause issues
@rickeykeeton714 жыл бұрын
Arch's Garage I have some experience with the carps, but I really didn’t know if the coil could cause this. I have one I had a buddy that works in small engines check. He gave up on it. I thought I would get him to check it, because at the time, it belonged to another buddy of mine. Buddy that had it ended up telling me to just keep it. He bought a new electric one I do intend on checking it myself. I don’t like for something like to beat me without knowing it is not feasible to fix.

Great video. One problem- Mine tested perfect from primary to mounting armature. However testing from primary plug end to ground wire point showed nothing. What does that indicate? They both test like that same. It’s on a V twin zero turn. Machine does run
@TheNovaJohn3 жыл бұрын
Typically I test just like in the video, if I go from the plug wire end, to ground, then from the plug to the tab on the coil, that's the kill connector that grounds out the plug end basically. These readings should be very close to each other.. If not, I would say you have an issue with the coil. That grounding tab is what get connected to ground to kill the engine,, if you are "Open" or no reading or resistance, the engine would likely run but ya cant shut it off... Clean everything well then re-test

watch the entire video, I do it again from another view and I say it over again. That was an older video when I 1st started, crappy camera as well. I will make another video on the subject soon. Generally around 5k is max usable on most coils, above that they will fail shortly and if the reading is all over the place its as bad as if it has no reading at all.

What could be wrong when the coil test good but has no spark at the plug? (2 new coils also don;t spark), The tab wire is not shorted either.
@TheNovaJohn3 жыл бұрын
Tab wire? I assume that is the kill wire? Disconnect it, try another plug and clean any ground, Clean the post that the coils mount on. If all the grounds are good, coils replaced, kill wire pulled off, then my guess is the plug.....

Whoops, Freudian slip! Your reasoning for the local racial stereotype was worse than the actual "bc the latinos" comment lol So roaches only live where Latinos live? Or is it vice versa? You should have identified the roach issue by origin not by the race of their hosts. This is what makes it racist regardless of what you actually meant. Your reasoning states that if a white or black person lives in the same house as a Latino, only the Latino's chainsaw will have roaches. Defending your comment only proves your inability or refusal to understand this concept. And based on your previous responses to other comments, as well as the impending one, your psychological rigidity and lack of apology only further validates what's being pointed out.
@TheNovaJohn2 жыл бұрын
If you read the comments and don't understand I can't help you. There's nothing to apologize for. All the rentals here are occupied by latino's, like I said, its because of where they live. They live across the street, do they live across your street, next door? Or are you one of those guilty white people that pass judgment? My neighbor is latino, he had them living in his garage and his shed! He got in trouble from code enforcement and he bought a nicer house in a better area. Most of them rent because they cannot yet afford to buy. I have friends of all kinds that live in the city, they have roaches but they don't have lawnmowers, hmmm how bout that,,funny right Where they come from they don't have roaches like this but we do and its very expensive to treat and unlikely to get rid of, do you have that issue? You should listen to what I said instead of reading your own racist bias into it or some psychobabble
