Appreciate the content. I'm a Ranger fan here. The thing is, these kinds of breakdowns are almost like splitting hairs at this point. Being better in one area, might mean that the player/team might also be a little worse in another area and it can go on in a loop. You're looking for something that might be the difference maker, but it is really hard to find. Even further, when you do find a difference, reaching a conclusion or drawing meaning from it might be even more difficult. Is a stat telling of a weakness, or does it mean someone has underperformed and is about to rise up? Are Bob's high GA games behind him and he is trending upward, or will he have another 1 or 2 games with 5 GA? Will Igor's consistency help the Rangers win every game 3-2, or will it result in the Rangers losing every game 3-2? It's really impossible to tell based on all of that. I think the Rangers have an edge in the net. However, these two teams are incredibly close overall and they line up as such stat-wise. The real point is that these teams are about to face one another for at least 4 games straight, and likely 6 or more games. A lot of the stats against Tampa or against Washington or the regular season will not matter. Mainly because they are so close. What is going to matter is how they will match up game after game. Who will have the key moments, the timely goals, the timely special team performances, the lucky OT bounce, or the game-stealing save. Will it be back and forth all the way until the final buzzer of the last game or will one team land some bigger blows or bring in some better tactics or strategies that will tilt the series in their favor? You can even have a bad call feel like it has decided the game or the series. By the time they get to a 6th or 7th game, it is going to depend on game to game or period to period performance. And it is probably going to be a really good and competitive series.

Bob is definitely a much tougher nut to crack than Lindgren or Andersen. However, Rangers offense is also far more versatile and high power than Tampa or Boston. Both teams are up against something they haven't had to face yet in the playoffs. Should be a great series.

Bob has only allowed more than four goals once this playoffs. Game 1 against Boston he only allowed four; the fifth goal was an empty net

A lot of that has to do with the Panthers D not allowing any shots on net. One game the Rangers only had 8 shots through 2 periods! There was another instance when Boston went over 14 minutes without a shot landing on goal. The Rangers have a lot more offense than Boston, so expect more goals to be scored against Bob this series, although I hope it doesn't happen :).

@@tb7-rf1fb I know it's only the 3 regular season games, but in regulation time Bob only gave up 2.6 goals per game on average versus the Rangers. He had a 2.37 during the season. The Rangers haven't been significantly more productive than anyone else during the season.

One thing I would say on Igor. He really struggled in the first half of the regular season. And turned in on the second half. Wouldn’t be shocked if 3/4 of the 4 goal games happened in the first half. Should be a fun series either way.

I think the only thing that’s a bit missed is that Igor was not the goalie in the first half as the 2nd half. If you are going to consider the Igor of October it’s misleading.. look at the goalies since the allstar break and get a more accurate comparison

Great video appreciate the review. Carolina was definitely a tougher opponent than the Bruins. Rangers are very opportunistic and rely heavily on Igor. Floridas relentlessness will be the biggest challenge for them yet.

You can’t compare them, two different styles play. Both fun to watch. We all know about Trocheck & Zibanejad, but for NY their dark horse to me is Lafreniere & For Florida is Forsling or even Lundell. Anyways this going to be interesting to say the least

Igor's stats are heavily distorted by how bad he was to start the season. Since February hes been much better than the season long numbers indicate. He also only has 1 game in his last 32 playoff games where he gave up more than 3 goals.

I think matchups are going to be super important. I believe the Rangers top two lines can out perform almost any lines in the nhl. The panthers are a deeper team and if they can stop them, they’ll probably win the series barring and referee interference. The Rangers getting home ice will really help against Maurice getting the 2nd change and avoiding matchups may be the difference. If you bet on this series, you’re crazy because it’s a coin flip. If there’s no injuries, and Chytil is healthy to be inserted I predict Rangers in 7 but that’s just a “I hope prediction”

It rarely if ever happens that a NHL team loses the cup and then wins it the next season I cant ever remember that happening in the NHL maybe it has but it is very rare. Rangers lost the cup in 2014 and then lost ECF to Tampa next season, it is alot of hockey to play in a calendar year, I really like the Rangers chances.

Teams are not getting as many shots through on the Panthers but the ones they ARE getting are high danger, high quality chances. So thats why Bobs SV% is crappy. The Rangers play more wide open and the Cats are more structurally sound in their defense.

The caveat with shesterkins numbers is that he had a bad first half per his standards and easily the worst stretch of his career. Looking at his playoff numbers and second half numbers its a much different story. Shesterkin has turned his game up and has definitely saved the rangers a few times this playoffs. GAA is always a combination of a team defense and goaltending and when you look at GSAx its a clear advantage for shesterkin. Goaltending is still on the side of the rangers and I like Bobrovsky alot. Rangers defense can be an issue and the goaltending numbers are pretty much even between the two with our defense being much worse in front of shesterkin than it has been in front of Bobrovsky. Should be a fun series regardless, this is the best offense the panthers are going to face and i think florida is probably the most complete team we will be facing, definitely think Carolina is a bit worse especially when it comes to the goaltending standpoint. Bobrovsky is a tier above anderson especially in the playoffs.

"Igor allows one game per 7 in playoff series of 4 or more" meanwhile he is actively in the second longest streak in NHL history in playoff games of allowing 3 or fewer goals... (that game the canes scored 4 was an ENG so not on Igor) Also Igor's numbers are going to look worse in the bad games department because he had a terrible december and january until the ASB. He was literally G2 under Quick in that time. Since the ASB is really how to look at igor. Not saying this wasnt a good analysis just wanted to make sure to give that context. This series is gonna be a bloodbath

Cool stats video very close when compared but the issue I have with these comparisons is bob been in the league since what 2010 while Igor started in 2020. Bob played for multiple different teams at different eras of the NHL. While Igor only played for one team. Bob had different defenders coaches goal scorers while Igor’s has around the same players around him. Point is you can compare both goalies stats unless you compare Igor’s stats to bobs stats only with the panthers. Bob has a lot more experience in the league and in the playoffs than Igor. Overall if I want either as a goalie for a run I think I’m taking Igor over bob but that doesn’t matter cause the team in front of these goalies are the ones who can change the game. You need a goalie to make those big saves and maybe steal a game or two. But you also need scoring. Panthers are fantastic goal scorers as well as the Rangers. Technically it should be a great series. My guess it’s a back and fourth or someone is getting blown out.

Igor went through a pretty bad slump for a little while really after he got injured in the hurricanes game in November after he came back he wasn't himself. Thank God for Jonathan quick he weathered the storm for quite some time. I haven't followed the Panthers closely enough to know if Bob had a slump like that as well

One thing about Igor is he had a pre and post ASG season. He was the NHL's WORST goalie in January. Of all qualifying goalie, he was the worst. After the ASG and a 2 week off run he returned and played at a Vezna level. I'd run the numbers again and look at the last 40 games. Half a season. You'd find the numbers and level of play is totally different. Respect to Bob. Not taking a single thing from him.

Bob is better on tip ins and broken plays in front of of the net. Igor is better in all other areas. Big fan of Bobrovsky. HUGE fan actually. Rangers fan here but Russian hockey players are my forte. Bobrovsky is amazing but he can be leaky like Freddie Andersen. BOB IS A BEAUTY but I do have to give the edge to goaltending to my Rangers. Igor carries the team on his back. Bob just does Bob things. Which is incredible and outstanding goaltending. Very similar to Igor. They will both be really hard to beat and it’s going to be a great series. Let’s talk shutouts now for a second lol. Watched all 82 games. Igor could’ve had 10 shutouts. Easily. He had 6-7 games where he had shutout games and we were winning 3-0 the whole game and he lets one flukey crap shot goal in to ruin the shutout. It’s actually scary when I think of how many shutout periods Igor has. When Igor lets em in. He lets em in. When he’s on he’s on. You said it best though. Both goalies are great. Both goalies are better than the other goalie in certain aspects of the game. This is going to be legendary and I would have taken the panthers 10 times out of 10 over the Bruins. This is going to be epic. Legendary. Whatever word you can come up with. MAY THE BEST TEAM WIN. WHOEVER WINS THIS SERIES IS WHO IM ROOTING FOR IN THE CUP. HOPE YOU GUYS FEEL THE SAME WAY. Now besides goaltending and offense I think it’s going to come down to special teams and defense in the end. Which in that aspect. I have the rangers. I know surprising…. lol.

Honestly as a Rangers fan Florida is the one team I did not want to play. The combination of Physicality and Scoring is gonna be hard for the Rangers to deal with. Great stuff, Jaws. I've aleays said, gimme Bob over anyone else. When he can see the puck, even tip in and rebounds he's the best in the league. @pingamalinga Carolina had the most inaccurate shooting in playoffs history. They've consistently been unable to score game winning goals, not just this year. Like the Oilers, they have majors weaknesses that a serious playoff team should be able to exploit.

Igor had a terrible first half of the season, that’s where 85% of those bad stats come from. Post ASB, he was top 2 if not the best goalie in the league. All the SO were second half games. Bobrovski was cracked last year, saved 16.3 goals above expected. This year only 2.6 vs igor’s 8.8. The panthers are going to need greasy goals which they are good at but if the rangers do their job cleaning up the net front they’ll need to beat him clean which does happen but when igor is locked in he’s pretty much lights out. But i take everything w a grain of salt bc swayman was the best statistical goalie in these playoffs and you took care of him. Should be an amazing series.

Gotta luv panther fans.... it's going 7 this ain't the bruins or Tampa. Rangers are a different animal this year vs a team that is built for the playoffs. As a ranger fan I watched the panthers in the playoffs last year. And just the dismantling by vegas in final. Rangers in 6 . Sorry
