Stravinsky has such balls in his composition. A concert bass drum practically droning triplets for a minute straight and such rhythmic intricacies between brass and percussion is not only unique for his time period but also just a flex of arrangement.

he heard that in his head and didn't get the luxury of playback. he just heard it and went. its crazy the way folks heard things back in the day. i'm not knocking modern composers. but its just cool how they knew what they wanted and basically guessed sometimes and hoped, or had to add something once they had the full orchestra.

Don't forget that the timpani is droning the sixteenths, essentially clashing with the bass drum creating an effect of stampede

It almost is like the piece has a double bass drum part in it, kind of like in metal... The wooden mallets also sound really great.

It really is! He also didn't hold back on that bass drum at all! 😂

An orchestral version of Bleed by Meshuggah. Jokes aside, this is really incredible!
@piazzollalucagordon41493 жыл бұрын
I think it's even harder: here you carry the rhythm with hands only, and long two-beat patterns require a looot of control, especially when you are one of the loudest instruments in the piece. Meshuggah forever, anyway :)

You're on the right lines! The Temppeliaukion kirkko was actually built sort of underground, with the round glass roof being on the actual ground level. Neat architectural idea that! You can check it out, it's in the Töölö area.

@@Mur4dMusicmandatory, no. Different players use a variety of mallets for this part. All are hard, however. But wood is an appropriate option
