21:17 Lynch put his commander in the command zone. Commanders can only be moved from Exile or Graveyard once checked as a state based action, which doesn't happen during the resolution of a spell. The mole should have been a viable target during Thieves Auction. It's the same way you can steal commanders with Necromantic Selection

Ayli drew 10 off chromatic orrery?? She only had 3 colors among permanents she controlled. White, blue, and black. So she should have only drawn 6 cards after the doubling effect. Chromatic orrery doesn’t count every colored mana symbol among permanents towards the draw. The official ruling on gatherer says you can only draw a maximum of five cards off orrery. One card for each color.

21:12 When the Thieve's auction resolved, i believe the whole effect of the card as to resolve before Lynch could take the action to bring Anzrag back to the command zone. I came upon a similar interaction with Necromantic Selection. Choosing to bring back your commander to the command zone can only be done as a state-based action when given priority, so no interaction can happen as the spell resolve.

Dope game, one thing though I believe there is no opportunity for Lynch to send the commander to the zone during the auction at 21:01 since the creature is exiled then returned to the battlefield under the new controller's control all during the resolution of the spell just like with Necromantic Selection. Since choosing to send the commander to the command zone from exile is a state-based effect instead of a replacement effect now, SBAs aren't checked until resolution of the spell and Anzrag would unfortunately have been up for auction. I doubt it would have changed much but it's a neat rules interaction too.

When resolving Thieves Auction (21:15), Lynch was not allowed to put his commander back into the command zone. Putting the commander back into the command zone from exile is a state-based action, and state-based actions are not checked during the resolution of a spell.

Pretty sure thieves auction can take commanders since you only move to command zone as a state based action which is not checked in the middle of a spell resolving. It’s not a replacement effect.

I hate to be that guy, but putting your commander into the command zone is a state based action, so it only happens after any spell, in this case thieves auction has been resolved. And since Anzrag is then on the battlefield again, he cannot be put into the command zone in this instance.

So let me understand this correctly… doesn’t the enchantment (wild evocation) that picks the random spell in the upkeep to cast, cast the spell? If so then the counter spell that Ayli had should’ve fizzled and not returned to hand? I’m confused… the counter spell was cast was it not🤷🏻‍♂️

If a spell has no legal targets it cannot be cast. When Counterspell was going to be cast there were no other spells on the stack to target, with no target it cannot be cast at all since it cannot target itself

I believe the issue was no legal targets to cast it. A judge can point the the rulings. But you need a legal target to cast it.

When thieves auction is played lynch puts his commander back into the command zone but that’s a state based action that’s not checked during a spells resolution so he wouldn’t be able to do that and anzrag should’ve been in the auction. Similar to how necromantic selection can steal commanders

I play Norin and I've been asked on multiple occasions to stop. I've only won once. I Reverberate(d) a Warp World (meaning we do Warp World then Warp World again). Everyone scooped instead of dealing with that mess.

When Ayli drew for Chromatic Orrery, she drew too many cards. Chromatic Orrery says you draw for each color among permanents you control, she had 3 colors (her commander) and thus would have drawn 3 cards times 2 = 6 cards. Hard to say if this affects the outcome of the game though

What a great, chaotic game.So funny that Ray was totally sleeping on invasion of ikoria. He had so so many opportunities to flip it. It,s just a simple 8/8 Reach dinosaur that assigns combat damage as though it were not blocked. Somehow Lynch forgot to mention that.

shoulda been 8x2=16 1/1 vamps at 37:40 instead of 7x2=14 since the first draw during draw step counts for the cards drawn that turn. dont think it changes the outcome in any way though.
