You start your daily routine and walk out the house, ready for work when you see it. That same man in the cat suit talking with some kids, you back away once more, to scared to take action. You call your boss and take a sick day to reflect on what happened and what you saw. You call the police and inform them of the furry. The operator laughs and says “That’s just Cool Cat! Why are you calling the police about this?” You hang up and cry for hours, knowing that he’ll take another victim. Then you hear it. Sirens! You run out of your house to see Cool Cat chasing a child. He runs into the police cruiser and the child is arrested. Your in disbelief of what just happened and then, it happens. Cool Cat turns his head 180 degrees and stares you dead in the eyes. He repeated what he said all those years ago. “I love all kids!”

I grew up with Barney, so my opinion is too biased to count. But screw it, yes Barney puts Cool Cat to shame in terms of work, effort, and life lessons easily understood by the target audience. If a character that is meant to act as a teacher, they have to resonate with the audience. They have to be entertaining and endearing. If they don't get kids dancing and singing along then the character is bound to fail. The character shouldn't appear to be "trying to fit in" like how Cool Cat is doing. It's why characters like Big Bird and Barney are great for kids. They're essentially kids themselves in a way, but they also know enough to act as a surrogate older sibling. They learn with the kids without abusing "trends" to appeal to the audience. And the world the characters exist in must also work with them. They have to feel one and the same in a sense. The whimsical nature of Sesame St and Barney's world mesh perfectly with their respective characters. Cool Cat fails here as well. He and his mother are just there with little connection. It's hardly entertaining. Especially for the target audience Cool Cat is aiming for. Cool Cat just feels completely forced in all fields with very little care. Practically an example of a bad self insert into a random world because reasons. Again this is a biased opinion from someone who grew up with this kind of stuff.

My theory on Cool Cat's origins. During a war, a pedophile, his mom, and his pet cat were trying to flee from their home from the bombs they were dropping, but unfortunately, both the man and cat died, at the hands of Boogie Woogie; the most powerful nuclear bomb in all of existence. Eventually, the pedophile's ghost found a way to thrive: Taking over a cat suit and naming himself "Cool Cat". The mother did the same thing as she took over a female cat suit. Then one day, they met Derek Savage and forced him to allow the two spirits to move into his home,but not tell anyone or he would die. Now, Derek had to be disguised and pretend that Cool Cat was his son and that the other cat is his wife.
