Patriot here! I went to catholic schools at various times in my K-12 years. In 3rd grade co-ed religion class, we were taught that women were responsible for ALL sin in the world because of Eve taking the first bite of the apple and then tempting Adam to eat it as well. Talk about a get-out-of-jail-free card. Imagine what they tell them in all boys catholic schools.

I'm a 78-yo straight, white, married woman. I started working for Civil Rights at age 17. After college, I joined the Peace Corps, teaching & working on community development in a small town in northeastern Brazil where almost everyone was mixed-race. (It was so refreshing.) I was appalled that about 10% of the Brazilian population owned about 90% of the wealth, never thinking it could happen here. After returning home, I celebrated the first Earth Day, worked for women's rights, & abortion rights, attended the huge ERA march in DC, and stayed up all night one Sat each month for years to run the old, temperamental offset printing press for my metro area's joint NOW newsletter. I supported church/state separation, LGBTQ rights, voters' rights, immigrant rights, elder rights, & animal rights. I taught in public schools & community colleges for over 30 years. I attended the Women's March in DC on 1/21/17 (the day after LoserTrump's inauguration) & several local women's, science, and climate marches in later years. I feel like every cause I worked for during the past 60 years has been reversed, all because of Trump and his followers. I'm exhausted, but I will keep fighting.

What’s so sad is that flying the American flag upside down has been a symbol of distress since time long ago, when sailors signaled their ship was sinking, etc. It is still considered to be a sign of distress to this day and confuses a lot of people when they see someone with their personal American flag flying upside down. It actually happened in my dad‘s neighborhood and many people were asking if this family needed help because their flag was flying upside down. One neighbor was about to call 911 to get help for them. These people have totally taken over what flying the flag upside down means symbolically, and can actually cause harm when emergency services’ time is taken up due to people simply being stupid.

Hey now, I flew the flag upside down for a while after the Dobbs decision overturning Roe, because it was truly a signal that our country is in distress-it’s the first time in our history that a right was actually taken away by the federal government. My partner of 10 years tried to tell me to take it down and that it was only going to piss off our neighbors (we live in a heavily red area) and I said oh well, let them be pissed. It’s my right as an American to fly it that way if I choose. And if any of my neighbors did the same, no matter what their reason, I wouldn’t care because they have the same right.

Wow this video couldn’t have dropped at a better time. Get a load of this, so yesterday I attended my 4-year-old nephews Christian Preschool graduation ceremony at the Baptist church my sister sends her children to. 10 kids in the class, everyone’s families present in the congregation, and the ceremony begins with the recital of the pledge of allegiance. Okay, it’s a preschool graduation, right, so I put my hand on my heart and participated in the pledge, regardless of my reservations. They put the American flag up on the big screen, okay, hand goes on the heart. Typically, in normal proceedings, the pledge is accompanied by a post-pledge moment of silence and that’s it, right? No. No moment of silence. Instead, after the pledge of allegiance to America, the children recited a pledge to the “Christian Flag” (new to me), and after that asinine recitation of indoctrinated bullshit, a new flag appeared on the big screen & the kids then started the third and final pledge, which was a pledge to the god damn Bible. My sister sends her kid to this church and plans to homeschool him because public schools are “indoctrination centers”. I’m still coping from what I endured yesterday at the Baptist church. 😮

My husband was raised Catholic and got away at 14. I was raised Protestant and, walking down the street at age 7 - I got to a corner and knew the Christian religion was not for me. I'm a devout roman catholic. I'm a mother, entrepreneur and living in a 3rd world country (Philippines). Mr. Butker's graduation speech was so tone deaf, made by an ignorant man. I have 2 grown up daughters, a lawyer and a teacher. My husband and I wouldn't want them to be plain homemakers, but as a part of a team (as parents), building a family.

Butker's speech merely highlighted the fact that the majority of women find more satisfaction in raising a family than they do in their career. If you think pushing papers and typing endless data into a computer is fun, go have at it. Most women would rather do something meaningful like raise children and being the matriarch of their families. Being a mother is the most important job of all (father included).

I sincerely thank you guys for talking about this stuff the way you do! It feels like no one in the media is talking about how absolutely bad this country is getting by the second. It’s freaking crazy that there was an attempt to overthrow the United States government, and everyone is acting like it was any other “normal” day with Trump in office. It also feels terrifying to not have any confidence in the opinions of the Supreme Court, and I just know they will never hold themselves accountable..

Thanks for shedding light 💡 on the uptick of racism, since the election of trump. As a black person just out here living my life it gives me anxiety that people hate me simply for existing. I am more cautious when making decisions like location of my home, my children’s schools even my employer. I live in Texas where the flag flyers are really emboldened. I used to temp as a way to check the racist temperature before selecting full time employment.
