My 9 year old granddaughter’s family just moved to a red state, S. Carolina, from of all places, the SF. area of California. She hasn’t been to her new school even a month yet, and a classmate, that could have been a friend, told her “ I don’t think we can be friends ,because you don’t believe in God”. , my granddaughter is Jewish. In my 73 years, I have never experienced this type of discrimination, racially, or religious, ever. I was stunned. That little girl’s comment, which I’m sure she got from her parents, seemed pretty un Christian like to me. This school situation in a red states is going to be hard to adjust to. I’m very worried for my Granddaughter, having to deal with these different types of beliefs, that shes not even aware existed, and is now the new normal.

Got a lot in common with Josh from yesterday and today. I live in the state that barely touches yours, although we both share lots of borderline with Texas. I would switch to Independent if NM did not have closed primaries. I catch myself watching too much news, so I try to limit it to my morning breakfast routine where I can listen while preparing food. It is a dichotomy to take in nutrition (oatmeal and blueberries) while also taking in toxic news. I was going to comment yesterday that Tim Walz is one guy who can sit down and look people in the eye. There is a clip where he sits down with some Trump voters - farmers/ag types. He immediately engages them. "What do you raise, what crop? etc and he lays out problems which they have to contend with. That's how it is done. A Master Class in 2 minutes. The trouble is that a lot of these people who make gazillions of dollars a year are not in it for the money, as such. They are bored. It’s a new game. They like being elite and untouchable under the law. It’s the power. They love to win. Doesn’t matter what happens to the ‘loser’. Change the furniture around for fun. Doesn’t matter if YOU were sitting there watching the TV. Then they’ll pull the rug out from under you just to see what happens.

Yep, we insult the one that may have a better solution, just because the solution sounds like a personal attack - which it isn't. We decided to cut education to the bare bones, where "Christian" schools and anti-woke sentiments have turn revisionist, and the public schools dont have funds to do anything. And the non-denomination schools are hated because religion is not primary, and they are looked at as elitist. Teachers chosen for public schools dont always have the proper experience and education. My teachers in the 60s had masters. Many hospitals not affiliated with universities, hire foreign doctors with work visas. They also hire in the same way. The US is so so expensive for it's potential students. Get a degree, pay for ever more in student loans. And yes, the COLA has not moved a dot, without having price gouging that basically put you ever closer to homelessness

David Cay Johnston did a study on the tax receipts from 2000 to 2023. Corporate America profits increased 365% and the wages increased 45%. Have reached the greatest inequality since the 1930's.

I am not Maga nor did I vote for them. But they do have a point. We do celebrate popularity contests over being smart or preparing for a good future. Ask American kids what they want to be. Lots will say athletes, entertainers, youtube and TikTok stars. We think learning a bootcamp later in life is the win all. These people have been prioritizing brilliance since birth. While we beg for manufacturing jobs every election cycle.

Remember why they chose those things over others that because Corporate America 🇺🇸 like Elon, Wall Street etc kept them from making good living after graduation 🧑‍🎓. For example, I knew someone who graduated with a bachelor degree major in science and chemistry and ended up working in an office as scheduler for one year

Do the foreign born engineers get their education paid for by the foreign government? They can’t find enough engineers here because we don’t pay for secondary and higher education for our American youth. My nephew was the ONLY AMERICAN in his physics PHD program at Brown University - he was on a full ride scholarship, and ALL THE OTHER STUDENTS in the program were from foreign countries that PAID FOR THEIR TUITION. The school only offered one full ride scholarship to an American, that’s why he was able to attend the program.

What Viv was saying was that we DON’T celebrate the nerds. However, as a teacher, I can promise you WE DO! There is a group who celebrate the athletic kids, there’s a group who celebrate the theatrical kids, and there are those who absolutely celebrate the “nerds.” Maybe he wasn’t celebrated because he was a complete jerk. It has nothing to do with his academic achievements. No one wants to celebrate the a holes.
