Most people depend on Amazon as a way to buy used appliances, books and so on, because brick and mortar resale shops don't exist where they live. People depend on Walmart, especially where there is no grocery store. For huge numbers of people, Starbucks is the only place to buy coffee. Many of these companies have quite intentionally made themselves indispensable to large volumes of people, by actively killing the more localized businesses people depended on previously. Walmart killed the general store, Amazon killed the bookstore, etc etc. Boycotts don't work as well as they should (although they are still absolutely worth doing) because vast swathes of the population are literally unable to function without certain companies. The way around this is organization. Carpooling, CSAs, tag sales, neighborhood listservs, etc etc. Yelling at people to boycott does not do anything unless boycotting is a realistic option for most people. Leftists have almost entirely failed to provide any support structure for the proletariat so that they can engage in boycotts without hurting their families. The fear of homelessness is valid, and all anyone hears from progressives is "you are a bad person because you go to this store". That is not going to motivate people in the direction you want it to. Cut the purity culture crap, and make boycotting painless.

There are many people in our communities that do not want programs that support their friends, families, and neighbors because they themselves don't directly benefit. It's a sick mindset to be in. Just an example: I love that my mom doesn't have to struggle to pay for insulin anymore. AOC has a way of speaking to everyone that needs a newer perspective, but she especially has the ability to get young voters engaged, which is what our country needs. I’m 70 , but definitely think she is a great communicator. Love Jamie Raskin as well. He’s a hero!
