Brilliant as always 👌 You always bring out the best from a single machine. Getting noise elements at the break takes the track to another zone only to have the drop enhance more energy. Most of all, I love your work as all sounds are made within the factory pack and NO additional external colouring with pedals and Heat What you hear is what you get from Ivar’s machines. 👌👌👌

there's so much value in your vids. Thank you Ihor! One barrier that stops me picking up the DT is having to find all the sounds I want. You create a new project, delete the Init samples and then trawl through all the folders... and after some time the moment has sort of been lost. Does anyone have any workflow/organisation tips for this?
@IhorMedia
@IhorMedia 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Mike! Thanks for your kind words, mate! I appreciate you. Workflow and organisation of your sample library is a tough topic! I always tend to overthink and overcomplicate this! The best advice I can give you is this: Simplify! For example I would never have a huge sample pack. I like when sample packs are small and on the point. Like 909 kit, or Deep House Chords, or Organic Nature Sounds, etc. My favourite Devine 909 sample pack from Elektron has just 64 samples! And it is my goto kit! I also organise those sample packs into folders per manufacturer. Like Packs => Elektron => Devine 909. This helps with overall organisation of the library. Another tip is to create template projects. For example I have 909 Kit project with all the 64 samples from Devine 909 pack preloaded in it. Then I would create a new project by copying this one and I am ready to go! Another thing is that Digitakt won't let you go too crazy. There is a limit of 1GB of storage on it. There is that! I've never been even close to this limit however.

This video couldn't have come at a better time, just when I was trying to finish up my first set ever. Thanks. One thing I have difficulty with is changing paramaters such as cutoff and having them "jump" to another value when I switch patterns. Any tips ?
@IhorMedia
@IhorMedia 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and your kind words! Preserving the filter cutoff on the pattern level is indeed challenging, and may create jumps. Exactly how you described it. What I do sometimes is that I'd think about the sound evolution overtime, and try to "predict" where the cutoff will be (or must be) at certain part of the track, and then reflect this on each of the patterns in the arrangement - Step 4 in this video. I never get it perfect tho, but it is fine.

Awesome stuff as usual mate. Quick question on arrangements. When you are building up a track with all its seperate components, do you put it all together on one pattern then start taking it apart to copy to the next pattern? Or do you always start with just say, kick and snare on one, then a baseline on pattern two etc? Bit like mpc one where some people will arrange everything on one sequence, and some will have drums on one sequence, bass on the next, lead on the next etc. Hope this makes sence.
@IhorMedia
@IhorMedia 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you mate! I am more into subtractive arrangement. When I make a loop or two that is full of energy, then break it down into arrangement. I've tried additive approach, can't do it! I get carried away too much when jamming on the idea. Though additive way is more sustainable and effective.

Great tips Ihor!! I get a bit lost with all the button combinations to remember because of later updates and the missing kit structure like on the Rytm, Do you think that upgrading to the Rytm will make life easier ?
@IhorMedia
@IhorMedia 3 жыл бұрын
It really depends. For me DT is much more straightforward than the Rytm. I am getting lost in Rytm quite more often than on DT. However Rytm gives some more room for performance features. And yes, kits. However for me this is fine that DT doesn't have those. Thanks for watching!

Is it possible to sync a lfo to a pattern, for example start at step 1 and repeat after 4 bars. That would enable easy "attention" build ups with increasing decays for example. Thank you!
@IhorMedia
@IhorMedia 3 жыл бұрын
Good point! Thank you! This is totally possible on the DT. Just set a very slow LFO speed. And it can go EXTREMELY slow. I think up to 128 bars for one full cycle. Another dope thing is FADE param on the LFO page. It can fade it or out the LFO depth.
@3039-m9o
@3039-m9o 3 жыл бұрын
@@IhorMedia ah okay so maybe it could be possible to set up a free running slow lfo and then make a "repeat with step" parameter lock on the first step. It should stay in the cycle when the next steps let it run free again. My problem was that it is free running OR triggert each step. I will try it tomorrow ;) the fade trick sounds amazing
@IhorMedia
@IhorMedia 3 жыл бұрын
@@3039-m9o on the TRIG page you can disable triggering LFO. Then param lock on this param to "ON" on the first trig. I think this will work for a long running LFO. And indeed the conditional trig. Fade I have to have a closer look at some point.

@IhorMedia
@IhorMedia 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Maik! Thanks for watching! You are right, I used single cycle waveform for this bassline! And I agree with you that they respond better to the filter. I think it is because of the nature of how the filter works actually.

With the mixer, you unfortunately can not control 'a real quick mute' there (pressing a knob for a quick volume to 0 for instance). Now I hear you think, 'but you have mutes with the sequencer buttons?!'. Yes and no. The sequencer buttons do not actually 'volume mute', they stop triggering the sound. The very big difference here is that it will also kill the sound going into the compressor (!!!). As it is a pre mixer compressor, your sidechain compression continues to work when the volume is set to 0. When you have a ducking effect of the kick to the rest of the track, a 'track mute' and a 'volume mute' do completely different things. Using the track mute will affect the incoming sound to the compressor and change your other sounds... I find this unwanted and I wished a real quick volume mute (and return to the value before the mute) was available.
@IhorMedia
@IhorMedia 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, there is a big difference between "volume mute" and "trigger/track mute" I agree and I hear you my friend! I think it is a matter of a personal preference however. For example I don't do ducking on the DT. My kick drums are short and I mix them down quite loud, so that it pushes into compressor hard. The short lowend of the kick is powerful enough (to my taste) to "flatten" the rest of the instruments. This makes it stand out in the mix. Now when I mute the kick drum, the rest of the mix becomes a touch louder and clearer, because lowend of the kick doesn't push anymore. And I love that effect!
@studio48nl
@studio48nl 2 жыл бұрын
@@IhorMedia yes, and it's a very good tip, to think about the volume levels per pattern/track for the 'phase' your song is in for a drop/mute in mind. Thanks, very helpful!
