I am a metalhead and was surfing for some festival videos. Came across your channel for some reason. Man, I knew that modular synths existed, but it's somehow mesmerizing how you present your content and your passion. I love that it's showing that EDM can be so much more than just pressing the power button of your desktop PC. The complex triggering, cascaded triggering and modulation of all the variables, makes this craft so complex it's almost impossible to wrap your head around the fact that there are endless possibilities for a unique sound. In a way it's "fretless" soundscaping. I love it. You are really doing a great job. Actually I think this is metal AF. \m/ Thanks man.
@IhorMedia2 жыл бұрын
Glad you came across my channel! I really much appreciate your kind words about my work and your comment! This soundscaping is like exploring an endless universe of sounds and sonics. Sometimes I do it "to fret", sometimes just "fretless". And I am so happy I find people that join me on the journey! You think this is metal? Then this is metal indeed! Thank you man!

@Hans Oslo Tommy Creep has a zine called Black Panels Only and its only the darker side of modular. It has various metal as well as industrial, general blackness, drone, noise based ear-rape, audio sacrifice, ritual, divination and more. Lots of unholy metal-modular unions out there. There is even a module in coffin shape with real dirt in it from Edgar Allan Poe's grave site to send your signal through to distort. If that's not metal, I don't know what is.

Ihor, you're the best, man. You have inspired me to get BACK into modular after many years away. A decade ago, I got into modular for all the wrong reasons (gear lust), and not actually making music. Your Techno Breaks have broken down the techniques that I always wanted to achieve. Bravo and thank you! PS-What are your preferred patch cables? Very organized-nice job avoiding that spaghetti.
@IhorMedia2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your kind words! Glad you dig this format! Cables are erica synths and black market. I am trying to be organized with them and I avoid long cables. For video they may create a mess in the frame.

Very interesting as always, I'd very much like a video from you with tips and advice on how to make break and transitions. That part where you said "this didn't land properly" did not sound wrong to me and I'd like to train my ears and muscle memory to know when to start and stop channels
@IhorMedia2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for kicking in! "This did not land properly" is quite a subjective thing actually. Arranging track in time is all about juggling with energy levels. Sometimes you build it up, sometimes you break it down. In that particular situation I unmuted the kick drum and open hat after some kind of a breakdown. While the kick worked great at that moment, the open hat felt a bit too much. The thing with an open hat is that it always brings a lot of energy. And I personally felt like it would have been better to build the energy up slowly after that breakdown. To train your ears and muscle memory you have to practice a lot! Just make some pattern and try to jam hell out of it for a dozen of times! Slowly you'll get your understanding what lends well, and what not. For me it is simple - if I say "Nice!" or "YES!" after I make a transition or an energy change, then I consider that as "landed" haha. Probably this also creates some sort of anchors in my mind.
