Ihsahn is married to the sister of Leprous' singer and keyboardist Einar Solberg. Ihsahn is well known for his band Emperor, where most of the instruments where played by himself. That's why he needed a live band, and he took Leprous original lineup with him for a while. There is where Leprous was born, in a kind of way. Ihsahn solo albums are more eclectic, where lots of styles and different genres are mixed, opposed to his work in Emperor. Great choice, awwright! I'm still here!
@isfet51492 жыл бұрын
What! No he isn't. He was the main songwriter for Emperor, and vocals but Samoth was there the whole way, and Faust, then Trym. Bass was not very set in stone. But Ihsahn did not play most instruments in Emperor.

Ihsahn and his previous main band Emperor are pretty much the OG symphonic black metal band, they've influenced a ton of metal into a more sweeping, dark, melodic direction in general. Dimmu Borgir is probably the most well-known of Ihsahn/Emperor's contemporaries with a very similar musical style, but I'd like to throw out a much less known Finnish band called Shade Empire who still proudly carry that torch! After is an amazing album, but I have to say Heaven's Black Sea is one of my least favourite songs on it, hah! But it would be amazing to see Geebz take on Undercurrent, or Austere, or On the Shores, the way those songs incorporate instrumental prowess without sacrificing the atmosphere (like Austere hits the first organ solo in the first minute and the fretless bass solo later on). And the sax works like a charm, as a melancholic instrument communicating isolation.

More familiar with his work with Emperor, since there early years and their work during the dark age of Norwegian black metal. The early years of black metal in Norway were responsible for numerous church burnings, multiple murders, and were heavily influenced by a high interest in satanism, and demon worship (not figuratively, quite literally). On top of that be careful if it's the shoulder that you injured. A couple of years ago I dislocated one of mine and tore a bunch of the soft tissue inside of the joint. It can be incredibly painful and can limit range of motion tremendously. It takes a lot of time for recovery but as soon as it feels like the inflamation starts to go away it's very important to slowly start doing light resistance exercises or light weight lifting but be very careful to maintain proper form. Although it is slow, as long as you do those things, it will fully recover and both your ROM and the strength of the joint will return with no prob. Someone had also mentioned In Flames in the comments. Their earlier albums like The Jester Race or Whoracle are both better known albums and both received multiple awards when they were released. They are definitely more progressive style metal but in my opinion definitely worth checking out. These albums were released closer to 99-01. Their more recent stuff is a little more formulaic but not necissisarily bad. Good luck on recovery!!!

I would disagree thoroughly. Emperor were fucking incredible up until IX, but Ihsahn's solo output is a different mood and can't be compared. Out of all the prog stuff released in the last 22 years it's the most genuine I think, like the prog elements aren't there just for the sake of being complicated. Emperor, Immortal, Dark Throne, Blasphemy. The true early 90s big 4 BM though.
@MasaTheSlayer2 жыл бұрын
@@matthewgodding777 You can do so and that's just fine. Not a huge fan of IX, but everything before that is Ihsahns best work, best work so far and probably that is not going to change. Solo stuff is just meh, and every time I give change to it, it's just meh, would not buy records to my collection even if there would not be baggage of Emperor. It's just not cutting for me.
