I think you should make notes but the motive should not be reading those notes again and again ,the real motive for which you should make notes is because it make s your concept strong by writing it in a copy . You can also make notes to test yourself on the topic. But don't read notes again and again

I enjoy Sciences and Mathematics, What you have articulated in the video, answers the question 'how I began enjoying Sciences and Mathematics." Your point of "Making personalized notes, well adapted to your own style of thinking." not only promotes an efficient revision when we re-read the notes, But also forces us to ponder upon the Concepts, making us grasp them well. Which is what I have seen as a change in myself, From an average student, To a better scoring one.

Very good advice, even though I'm hardly a student now; But I struggle with learning, and even more retaining details of new topics (new for me). Note taking certainly helps a lot with retention, Now I see on reflection that when one refers to multiple books keeping all the information while accounting for nuance is impossible w/o taking notes. Thanks for the advice.

What sir is saying is extremely crucial and true in my 10th i highlighted the important points and read it again and again though I was having a vague thought that my concepts are getting better what actually was happening that I was just mugging up things with a certain level of understanding. Sir 2nd point happened to me during my 11th when I was solving cengage maths regourslessly i developed many new concepts on question solving that was mine and mine alone but since I hadn't note it down it all vanishes. But I will make sure sir that I don't repeat my mistakes. Because someone has well said that "if you made a mistake and don't correct it then it's a mistake".

I take notes for 2 reasons: 1. Proof of UNDERSTANDING: after going through the material, i create a clear summary of the content in my head and write it down - as a record of my understanding. Making diagrammatic/visual summaries works best for me in many cases, but depends on the nature of the topic mostly. If there is difficulty in summarizing the concept for myself, that means there are gaps in my understanding. (This teaches one to be critical of one's own understanding. The previous record of the understanding can be revisited and updated/corrected at a later time.) 2. Recording SYNTHESIS: when i derive new information/ideas from my existing understanding/knowledge, i write them down.
@mdebarshi7 ай бұрын
Also nowadays, given the scarcity of good teachers, i do not depend on lectures. I rather try to read directly from books written by the pioneers/experts of the field or directly from original research, in order to get the concept right. It happens many a times that a 2nd or 3rd translation of the original concept increases the probability of corrupting the original idea. Unfortunately, i have experienced many lecturers from private schools and collges who are inefficient in transferring concepts in their correct/original form to the students. Nowadays, i rely on video content that cones directly from individuals who are the scientists/experts of the field themselves.

Helpful video! Most of the things you said here, I discovered via hit and trial (meaning I've reasonably suffered for most of my academic life due to bad notes). As you said, its important to make notes even when solving science questions. I also never feel satisfied using someone else's notes. My personal addition here: your tip about noting down little concepts applies not just to science, but to humanities too. Self studying humanities since few months now, I'll elaborate it for the (minority) humanities students here: add some analytical notes too. So, make your normal notes writing down facts, but also write down how the specific fact affects other elements. Eg. in History, analyzing long term impact of events help you understand and remember better. In Geography. analyzing the impacts of geographical info on economy or lifestyle helps better remember things. Noting these down help in faster understanding and recall. In the past few months, my (mis)conception that Humanities is "rote memorization" subject has been broken. One final thing - and this is something I falter at till date - REVISION! Notes are useless if not revised. I need to improve upon my revision schedules :)

Therefore I have make a separate drive of my notes if anybody asks I send them the link. 😅 I make notes from the teacher's lecture in the school when they are explaining the topics (included ideas of books and many extra topics)as I was regular in attending the school. There were some extremely skilled teachers like my chemistry sir-(he taught many topis something more outside the syllabus also like sp,hybridizationm, ligarithm part of pH which were removed from the syllabus that was very interesting and his sense of humour was also very good) and maths mam(she was one of the best teachers that I have got the chance to study , the way she explains every concept without using any particular book , I mean she takes any random book and gives different types of questions and explains each type very good , she was the teacher whom I met this year and whenever she explains she tells to not write ,first listen and then gives us more extra time to write, she was the only teacher who gives questions and tells not to jump on solving fast and she solves the question and then she gives more different types of question mostly MCQ and also gives more time in explaining basic concepts like the number system [this was very unique as in earlier classes the teachers will give the questions and we have to solve fast] she also encourages us many times as I was that type of student who knows maths well but everytime I ended by only 1 mark to get full because of my silly mistakes in basic things, always tells me to be the best version of yourself as there is always someone better).

Physical Note-Taking: Some students may argue that digital note-taking is more convenient and organized, allowing easy access, search, and sharing of notes. They might find it more practical in today's technologically driven learning environments. Relying on Provided Lecture Notes: Some students may argue that well-prepared lecture notes from experienced teachers can be comprehensive and time-saving. Relying on these notes allows them to focus more on understanding concepts and less on transcribing information. Borrowing Notes: Students might argue that borrowing notes can be beneficial in situations where they miss a class due to valid reasons. It provides an opportunity to catch up quickly and maintains continuity in their learning. Descriptive Thinking for Subjective Questions: Some students may feel that while descriptive thinking is valuable, the emphasis should be on problem-solving skills, which are more directly applicable in exams and real-world scenarios. Efficiency of Underlining and Highlighting: Students might argue that underlining and highlighting key points in a text can be an efficient way to review and reinforce important information. It serves as a quick visual reference when revisiting materials. Digital Note-Taking for Accessibility: Students may prefer digital note-taking for its portability and accessibility. Digital notes can be easily synced across devices, enabling them to study from anywhere, which is particularly advantageous for students with busy schedules. Flexibility in Note-Taking Styles: Some students might argue that different individuals have varied learning styles, and a one-size-fits-all approach to note-taking may not be suitable for everyone. Flexibility in choosing note-taking methods based on personal preferences and learning styles is crucial. It's essential to recognize that educational approaches can vary, and what works well for one student may not be as effective for another. The counterarguments provided above are not a dismissal of the original points but rather an acknowledgment of the diversity in student preferences and learning styles.

How do you go about learning concepts and taking notes when it comes to backlogs though? I'm an 11th grader starting my 12th from 16th March (I'm a state board student so my 11th board exams are currently going on), and I have a large portion of my 11th in backlogs. I'll have about a month of summer holidays in May where I can finish my backlogs, but how can I finish those in such a time crunch? I've seen many people advising me to take the notes of others (which you have refuted against in the video) and watch one shots, though that's not my preferred route since I won't be able to understand and absorb the information of the chapter properly and in depth. What you've advised certainly seemed the most research-backed, efficient and practical approach towards learning concepts, though I'm afraid I won't be able to implement them properly when I'm running out of time with a lot of chapters already uncovered. Thanks a bunch for the video, I really appreciate the content you put forward for us and I'm grateful for this channel and all that it has helped me and others out.

Hi. I'll assume you're a science stream student. I covered most of the JEE (Mains) syllabus after summer of class 12th. And I did it parallely while studying for ZIO/ZCO. What I did was to skim through old content and note down the least I could - formulas and edge cases. I devoted most of my time on solving previous year questions and then noting down the new formulae/concepts. Eg. You know what friction is and how it works. Don't note down that theory. Just note down the formulae. In maths, there are some types of questions that are repeated often, so I used to note down the process for those (apply abc formula -> differentiate -> factorize with xyz denominator). Towards the end of my preparation, I again made notes. This time, very very short and including the concepts that I was often getting wrong on mock tests. One important suggestion - notes require revision to be useful. I didn't actually revise my notes and it eventually hurt my scores.

Please re watch your video. Almost entire video is what not to do with very little details about how to actually take notes. Hardly 3 minutes from this long video is helpful

Respected Sir, This message is from a 10th grader i do respect your advices in all due respect .My question to you is if a student is following a certain strategy which doesn't include note-making by which he has fullfilled or rather gained some level of expertise in certain topics and which worked out pretty good, change his strategy in the upcoming years and start making notes?

As a senior I will say that u should buy a 10 year pyq book for every separate chapter and jab bhi tum koi chapter padh loge to pyq bhi bana Lena and no need to purchase any other book like HC Verma, rs aggarwal, tumko bas 10 y ke pyq banane chahiye and repeatedly banate raho.
