JC sir, myself a MTech in CAD-CAM under school of mechanical engineering at VIT. I would like to know on how should I begin my journey in the field of computational mechanics ? I have my own reasons to opt for it. If possible can you please make a dedicated video on computation mechanics, areas of focus one must master, and what all one must not miss, to enter into specific works in this field ? I'm asking this because I don't have Computational Mechanics as a program or even as a subject being offered, but lately, I've been involved with FEM and ANSYS Mechanical APDL as well. And I hope there is something worthwhile I can live for.

In summary you kind of agree with him. The only part he was wrong about is not needing those formula. I think the frustation of OP(tharun) is at lack of opportunities and the work it requires. Really appreciate this direct communication with audience. Indian academia feels disconnected with masses and many students make bad choices. Thank you for doing this.

I am currently an undergrad at IIT Kharagpur and was struggling with this for quite some time, i noticed how i was forgetting a lot of things and it took me quite some time to process a lot of things at large, even after studying for a test/exam things weren't clicking and i would go in a void zone of nothingness as if i have forgotten anything or if there was an impedance in my brain that is preventing me to do so, now I've realised I'm not putting my brain to work and not applying any external resistance as told by your piston example, this short clip might just have saved my life. Forever grateful sir.

You should also discuss about the job prospects in india for Mechanical Engineering. Just because you liked physics in school should not be the criteria to choose mechanical. The students also need to be made aware of challenges faced after they graduate

well it's like speaking a new language or learning how to write an essay from scratch... I totally agree with you SIR, but I think a person can grow this kind of ability ( IF HE REALLY WANTS ) at any stage of their life. For example, many of my seniors learn French in their late forties. Learning new things like this requires deep thinking and a passion to learn new things.

Lovely video sir , sir i had a question , is it a good idea to go for 2 year Mtech from some other iit like iit bombay through gate, when one is already enrolled in btech program of some other iit , or is it better to stay in same colledge and do Mtech form the same colledge.
@Prof_JC4 күн бұрын
If you are in an IIT, you can opt for the Dual Degree programme if it is there. That saves you a year. If not, you can go for M.Tech at another IIT.

Sir, I really appreciate your efforts in making academic videos for students. Can you please make a video for students to establish a time table in their college life while in a hostel and super-hectic schedule like that of IITs, IISc and IISERs. I myself am a 2nd BS-MS student of IISER THIRUVANANTHAPURAM and it would be really helpful if you consider my request

Why jab authorities did that 😢 please do something sir if you have something in hand many students are in the same phase as me

sir can u pls make a video regarding the blunder JAB did with double repeaters? for removing jee advance 3rd attempt after 13 days of notifying that 3 attempt will be there im in 12th class and i know few students who were studying in nits who dropped their respective colleges (nit trichy being one of it) to prep solely for iit this year and now they are hard stuck i hope this message finds u <3 I do understand the message regarding the competition hike and stuff but how can *JAB* be so irresponsible regarding the notification and how it can affect a lot of students life across india many students dropped out of their respective colleges , enrolled in courses filled the form and etc all of that for nothing? just because todays youth now can never trust these agencies who are set up for their betterment? Absolutely disgusting sir No wonder people wants to leave the nation when the agencies the biggest ones JAB can be so irresponsbile ,

Asking questions is considered bad because teachers make it seem stupid to ask questions. They make it sound bad, as if you're questioning the teacher's authority

Yes. I want to add some more things which should be considered. Actually PhD is not for everyone. It is not only a degree or scholarship or getting title or job! PhD is studying and learning deeply. I have seen many people who are coming into this for "marks accha tha", "CSIR NET qualified Kiya", scholarship, title only! But after 5-6 years they are struggling for getting a job! It's really hurts! Even many family don't support the long journey, some students are from weak financial background, they have burden to get a job and support family. PhD is for those who are really interested in study, learning and explore, those who don't have financial problems or burden, have support from family, they can go for PhD freely, and those who work sincerely they can get success. Those who want title then go for NEET( bio physics chemistry from 11-12 should be very strong), those who want job after degree then go for job after graduation or Masters. Otherwise it will be burden after sometime. Really PhD is not for everyone. Self analysis is very very important. That's why self assessment is very important to choose career. (I am not a PhD candidate but a non -acad govt employee. I have written this comment from experience which I have seen during Masters degree in IIT ISM Dhanbad.😅)

I am not an IITian but rather a Research Scholar at IISc (Mathematics Dept). I simply reject the idea of viewing and ranking IIT's (or any University) and it's departments on the basis of how many jobs they can give you. So if a department does not give you many jobs does it make that department absolutely worthless? We need to recognize that the department/stream exists to further our knowledge and research in that particular stream. Landing jobs should be viewed as a byproduct of quality education. There is (or was when I was in my 12th) a perception that Chemical or Metallurgical Engineering are not sought after fields and are for lower ranks, certainly lower than Mechanical. But before you classify these department as useless, please think on the fact that our world would grind to a stop without the knowledge these departments generate. I realize that I am biased in this topic due to my background in research.

I very much disagree with the foundational connection part. I believe there has been many great science practitioners that contributed across multiple domains and paved the path to modern science at later stages in their life. I am not sure why the Prof claims it but I get it, its a common sentiment in India and Indian institutions that everything has to be built from the foundation and you need to be connected to the foundation to take science ahead. However, I personally feel that if you do all the theory and no applied science, it’s not helping. Scientists should be able to use science to solve human problems. People can build applications on abstract concepts. Yes, we need theorists and then we need engineers. There is a very elegant distinction between both.

Dear Prof. JC, Is it true that students scoring very high marks and ranks in JEE Advanced or at least those who have qualified JEE Advanced struggle too much at IITs and start having counselling sessions or psychologist treatments ? What do they lack because of which they end up in such a situation ? There is something fault in their thinking process, lack of intrest or what, like I'm curious ?
@sandyj34212 күн бұрын
Because you can attend coaching classes for years and crack the exams without passion for the subjects. That person is chasing an IIT tag and social pressure. But reality begins in the classes.
