Professor, what does principal stresses and stress invariants mean physically? Like where do we use these concepts in real life engineering?

At 15:13 can you elaborate I didn’t get it how nx^2 + ny^2 + nz^2 = 0

The sum of Cosine squares of angles made by the normal 'n' with the respective axes(x,y,and z).It's just the same as in Coordinate geometry in class 11th. cos²x+cos²y+cos²z=1.😊

you keep complaining about these lectures...did someone force you to watch them?
@karthikb31983 жыл бұрын
They have every right to complain, this is tax payer money badly spent, atleast they could have uploaded 480p.

@ 44:26 Shouldnt the contact area of the bolt be throughout the length of the plate ie. 20mm (thickness of plates together )
@anubhav40274 жыл бұрын
Same doubt
@RahulChoudhary-rk4bd4 жыл бұрын
Bolt is applying bearing force only on one plate at a time.....so we take thickness of one plate at a time not of both.
@Dnyaneshwar_Mulay4 жыл бұрын
both are in opposite direction so forces (internal) cancel each other and no Sig(b) hence we take one contact with one plate in calculation

While calculating bearing stress why can't we take "πrt" as contact area???????
@alokkumarmohanty84034 жыл бұрын
He already told us to take the projection area If we take the curve suface of the bolt then the entire area will look like upper face n lower face curvature n sides as straight

Brother this videos is uploaded 12 years ago. Rather that to see the negatives of video we have to focus on positive side of it. At least from home we are getting high level lectures . People spent lakhs to get such type of lecture.
