btw, as you probably noticed, Ik Multimedia's COMPREXXOR (Distressor emulation) makes an appearance on the bass. Good comp.

Dear dancetech! Try Audiothing's Outer Space - it has much more '3D' sound and quality of preamp emulation stage, great bright spring. And Alborosie Dub Station plugin is great too))

Not sure about the 3d thing for older style tunes cos most dubplates from the older era were mono pretty much cos it got the BIG bass end even though stereo lathes obviously existed since the 60's. Interestingly the main guy who cut in the UK was married to my mum's cousin or was my mums cousin, i cant remember which tbh. He was featured in an old famous BBC documentary back in the day (kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZorWeqp-pK6nd5I). The story is John was involved in classical or jazz music (i cant remember very well). He & Felicity moved to Jamaica for many years. They returned to England/London when they got older & was discovered by the UK reggae community cos he was a superb lathe engineer & had a great high-end but older mono lathe. Around 1988 mum mum called me up and asked if I'd seen it on the tv & revealed the family connection (which i had no idea about) and gave me John's number. We chatted a few times on the phone & he offered to sell me his lathe, I turned it down cos it was MONO... dammit! Yeah I regret it now, but my life would have gone in a different direction if i bought it i suppose & I probably wouldn't have this channel. Interesting bit of history though.

@@dancetech I remember that documentary well. so that was your family eh? Interesting. If I remember rightly they cut a lot of dubs for Blackbeard and Matumbi.

This looks great. Is it possible to get the same or similar effects using modules in Mixbox which I got after seeing your recent review?
@dancetech3 жыл бұрын
not the same, but you have the tape delay & the plate, which you can combine to get something similar, remember different reggae studios back in the day used different gear, it all has a sound
@HeadGardener3 жыл бұрын
@@dancetech Cheers, I will experiment - There's a mono spring reverb in Mixbox now I come to think.
@dancetech3 жыл бұрын
@@HeadGardener yeah that is best used subtley in conjunction with a larger reverb to get a combined sound imo

Youre in logic why not use the automation. I like your base song though, can you do a tutorial on how to make dub like this please.
@dancetech3 жыл бұрын
automation is ok for some things, but dub is hands on.

Hi Dancetech, hope things have improved with your site. Could I make a reggae tutorial request please? The Things & Time rhythm. Been trying to nail the bassline for ages. its so 'swinging'!!! I first heard it from Dillinger Natty BSC but it's been versioned nuff times since. Thanks, stay well.

@@patkelly8309 if you mean this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f4O2m2eejrWcm8U - to my ears (just got up tho, lol) the bassline sound absolutely square to me, & the beat, but the sidestick is doing a little 'catch' swing thing
@patkelly83093 жыл бұрын
@@dancetech for some reason that video isn't available for me but I think you have the right track. It may well be a totally straight b-line (could be my ears) or perhaps the sidestick thing is throwing me off. It just sounds so rigid when I sequence it and I don't know what key its in to play by hand. any help at all would be appreciated. Cheers
