I’m in Ike’s hometown, Clarksdale, Mississippi now. There’s a street named after him here. We both worked at WROX radio station. 💙

This is brilliant, that a complete Kinnescope has been saved. Dick Clark probably still has more of his kinnescopes but the estate will never let em out for commerical use. Wail on Ike, you're the king. Love his version of Okie dokie Stomp

Surprised to hear Ike Turner going out with the straight up Jazz Senior Blues !Bill Leonard went on to bigger and better things.. not sure where ? Perry Mason... something big time. This is an interesting kinescope of a local St. Louis analog of BandStand... Mizerany is a hoot. Norge stuff was really good quality. All together worth the watch.. Thanks Mitch.

It's interesting to note that no one knew how to be on TV at the time. They're playing to the room, not the (TV) audience. Only a couple of years later Ike was turning out hits in New York and Anna Mae was singing as "Tina" with the "Ike Turner Orchestra." In this vid, it looks like Ike is already playing the guitar. Is Anna Mae in there somewhere? Kind of muddy, y'all. Greater minds than mine can work it out.
@luciverdad48345 жыл бұрын
Ike switched from piano to playing the guitar in 1953. Little Ann (as Ike called Tina pre-1960) began singing in Ike's band in 1957 and she made her appearance on record in 1958, but she is not in this video.

Hi Mitch. I appreciate you sharing this incredibly rare video, but I am a personal friend of the gentleman who ACTUALLY "rescued" this particular piece of footage (direct from the person who "owned" it!!!), and I can't help but note that you don't seem to give him any credit for having done so anywhere on this page. Because I was a personal friend of the person who saved the footage, I was very lucky and got to see it a long time ago..... before there was "You Tube" et al..... it was circulated privately among a very few select friends. I imagine that's where you got your copy.... and would appreciate it if you would stop implying that you're the one responsible for this footage. Just for the record, I DO appreciate you posting it to You Tube. Thanks.
@mitchdiamond74908 жыл бұрын
I got this video back in the early 1980's. I would be glad to give credit to the person who found it if I knew who it was. It was never my intention to imply that I am responsible for the footage and I don't believe that I did imply that. I only said that I digitized it. If you show me where I implied that I discovered and saved this video, I would be glad to change that.

This whole thing is priceless. To see that moment and place captured, frozen forever in our collective memory is extraordinary in our post-covid, George Floyd woke era. But dont forget Me Too. And mostly dont forget the large orange 45th monster who wont get off the stage. But it's all of us folks. It takes two to tango. Its the beauty and the ugliness. This is before Ike started beating down Tina, as we know, knew her, since she herself just passed recently as a Bhuddist and Swiss citizen. This pivotal pre-rock and roll glimpse of where we came from, and who we may be, should have a boatload of lessons for us. God, let us learn how to live as true humans.
