Official comment from ikea on the italian website: “Our iconic Detolf cabinet is taking a little time off the shelves, hopefully we’ll see her soon revamped and radiant. In the meantime Blaliden is going to stand in for it but it’s not meant to be its replacement.

I got my first Detolf over 14 years ago. It was only $60😮 I can't believe they're being discontinued. What the hell kind of logic is that for IKEA? A hot seller like the detolf, That has been selling out of their stores for 15 years. Even though it's double in price now it's still reasonable in today's economy. Everything is jacked up in price This new display case, I like it I like that it's more compact to fit in a smaller area

They probably discontinued the old one due to quality issues or just safety hazards. I personally had a panel blow out on mine and my friend also had one blow out on him. That’s just my theory.

The blaliden does actually look nice but it's definitely too small to show off 1/6 scales, it looks like the shelves are resting on their heads a bit lol. A lot of the reviews are saying it's flimsy too, but if they intended to replace the detolf they should have used the same dimensions to keep people happy.

I have seven detolfs and have no more room for either display cabinet. If ii did I’d pass on the new display and try and get hold of the Detolf. What I have invested in is an ApexTime Chaos display case, which you can stack on top of each other and side by side, you can connect them to each other and up to a single power point and they already have lighting installed but a single display is around $180. Iv just about enough room to invest in a few more of the chaos displays and I think they look good and can really highlight a figure, it’s ideally for a single figure but you can fit up to three figures in the display but I’d say two is the best option.

For anyone that’s curious why ikea would discontinue such a popular item (just as I was curious) especially after doubling the price and making twice as much on them as they used too…according to what I’ve read is the ‘artist/creator’ of the detolf made the detolf to display glasses/vases/plate ware ect… and warned IKEA that he did not want them being used for toy collectors and threatened to stop making them if IKEA didn’t do something about it (which I don’t know what he expected them to do) or he would stop making them and force them to stop selling them…which is what happened. I’m just writing what I read on a few different websites…if this is true how strange/petty of the artist in my opinion what’s it matter what’s displayed in them lol

Thanks for you video! this helped me alot since I started to collect Hot Toy figures and the Detolf in my country has been discontinued. The Blaliden was the next best next for affordability, and while its not as big as the detolf, I found it to be fine for displaying one figure per shelf.

I just got one of these new ones, it was 79.99. Plus 19.99 shipping. I also got cefrank lights from Amazon for 35. I like it, I put plastic anime statues in them, so they don’t weight too much. It links great, I love the clear glass, I had 2 detolfs at my last place, but. I left them behind. I have a much smaller place now so it works for me. I would have bought a detolf, but the site said they were discontinued, for kicks I said let me know when they are back in stock, and the next day they sent me a text saying detolfs were in stock, but for 129.99 and after I already ordered this new one

thanks for the review, I was wondering what this new replacement was like. While the framing is nice, the reduction in size is a no go for me. I did keep getting distracted by Bella and Tucker trying to catch your attention when they saw you looking their way. I hope they got good petting when you were done.

The new one is great for smaller figures 1:12 maybe but definitely not for my 1:6 collection. Had six detolfs over 16 years with no problems at all. Shame they are coming to an end.

I like the frame, I like the clear class and that's where it ends. It should be same size or bigger than the detolf. Or have two sizes. This one and one being bigger than a detolf (twice wide etc.) I don't like the clips (doesn't feel like it can hold much, we want guaranteed OTT support), too unsteady and too small as advised. IKEA really need to sit down with collectors such as you and make a new line of collectible displays. I.e. This new one but with the above improvements. 2. New detolf size but with obvious improvements. 3. One twice the width. 4. Long large display, that to rival moducases. They would all be popular.

Thanks for the review! I agree this does have a much classier look with the black frame, and would probably be great for someone with a small collection who wants to display one figure per shelf. But that is unfortunately not me.

I don't like the new shelf, at all. Too small, not adjustable, and personally I really don't like the black frame. One of the things I love the most about Detolfs is the clean frameless look.

I’m personally going to IKEA Billy’s. More potions for adjustments on heights of figures, and more options for doors. Only real negative to the Billy’s though is depth but if you’re not collecting 1/6 scale vehicles it works. Plus you can put an expansion on top if needed.

The detolf (for your glass question) is likely made with lime glass (look it up). The other display is a really hard sell.

⁠@@MrRatatouilleI’d like to add (and this might not be a problem for most people, but for me it was), that when you get your Moducase be prepared to spend your time cleaning each and every surface. My experience and the experience of some others that I found online, is that the aluminum rails are simply cut to size and thrown in the box. There is very little in terms of cleaning, checking and QC. So for your 1 year wait time and 250-ish dollars, you get to clean off tons of powder coat dust and shavings, as well as aluminum shavings, shards, etc. I would also like to mention that there were plenty of marks where the powder coat was scratched off, most of the edges around the cuts were very sharp, and there chips on the MDF panels.

Great review. The new MILSBO has a nice elegant look. It's too bad it's smaller and more $$$. Looks perfect for people with smaller collections (such as myself). Why discontinue the detolf? I wonder if IKEA thinks customers use these for ceramics, etc rather than hobby items.

Cause it was too cheap probably. Didnt hurt that people would over tighten the top screws and then have shattered glass in your house, who knows. All it could have taken was one settled out of court lawsuit for the suits to decide it wasnt worth the trouble/the margins were probably thin and people would pay way more, i mean look at what 1/6 collectors pay for a bit of plastic.

Personally, this new option has a cleaner look for my space that’s making me consider buying it. I never liked the way the detolf looked. But the size is what breaks it for me. I love my dynamic posing and I know it wouldn’t work for me

A lot have. It can be both, a customer or IKEA problem. Defective glass or wrong installation by over tightening screws.

Glass cases have just never really appealed to me. Currently, I'm using a JÄTTESTA shelfing unit, which isn't perfect but nevertheless works well. Lighting it with a Phillips Hue Gradient Ambiance lightstrip has proved somewhat challenging but I'm hoping it looks nice once I've finally finished installing everything.

Sign of the times, man. An inferior product, pound-for-pound more costly, and doesn't even do the job as well as what it's replacing. I was on the road and decided to stop at an Ikea along my route, since there isn't one remotely near where I live, and they had Detolfs on sale for like $86. I thought about grabbing a few because I was planning out my growing collection. But I chose not to, because I was carrying a bunch of loose, heavy gear and didn't want them to get broken during the several hour drive home. I'm very upset with myself for not capitalizing on that sale now several months later. I have Moducases on the way, but I would still like at least one more Detolf to compliment the one that I've had for the last year. And I don't expect them to go on sale...because I imaging the demand will still keep them at exorbitance until they are just gone. Not happy. Not happy at all. But I'm glad to see your kind of mini review of the Good Earth lights. I almost grabbed some for the Rudsta that I picked up last week...so now I know that they will light up my new cabinet decently.

So I assume that I should expect to see mine in October since I took a month to really consider it. And I've been hearing people say that the turnaround time is closer to 6 months now so I would think I'm halfway through the waiting process now. I should say that I ordered off the rack...I didn't do anything custom. So I don’t know how long the wait would be in that case.

Detolf display area per shelf: 38x37 = 1406 cm2 (2 shelves = 2812 cm2) Blåliden display area per shelf: 32x28 = 892 cm2 (2 shelves = 1784 cm2) (Rudsta display area per shelf: 76x33 = 2508 cm2 (Milsbo display area per shelf: 66x36 = 2376 cm2 Blåliden is a downgrade, pure and simple, not even taking into account how the new frame blocks vision of whatever you're trying to have in there. If this isn't IKEA trying to save money on a worse (read: cheaper to manufacture) shelf, I don't know what it is...

someone at Ikea decided it's a good idea to discontinue the unique,cheap and cheerful Detolf glass display and replace it with something inferior and unintelligently designed and sell it at higher price .yes the clear glass looks better than green tint style but those ugly frames restrict the viewing angels ,the size is not as practical and look how bad cables look.what a shame.😖😣😞👎👎👎

It looks nice, but I make Dio pieces for my Detolfs. I have several pieces cut to make more. I do like the frame though.
