IKEA DETOLF HAMSTER CAGE! // Setting up a natural hamster cage // TIANISIMONEX

In todays video I will be setting up the Ikea detolf hamster cage! Setting up a natural hamster cage is one of my favourite things to do and I love thinking of new hamster cage ideas. The Ikea detolf is a great choice when it comes to looking for the best hamster cages in 2021 and I love how it can make a hamster cage look like a lovely piece of furniture whilst still offering your beloved pet a great home throughout their lifetime. Of course just having a large cage for your hamster is not enough to keep them completely satisfied and we should also be looking at different ways we can provide enrichment for hamsters too. I made the lids for my Detolf by following a tutorial here on KZbin and my aim for the future is to make a raised lid for the Ikea detolf to provide more carefresh bedding, different substrates for hamsters and continue to improve my hamster care.
Y U E 'S S T O R Y
Yue was my Russian dwarf hamster. She was my first hamster and i loved her very much. From the moment i saw her i knew she was coming home with me. She started me on a journey of research and learning about correct hamster care and enrichment in attempts to better her life, my hamster education and make her the happiest she could be. She is the sole reason i started this KZbin channel and i am so grateful to have so many videos and moments of her to look back on. Through lockdown, day to day life and mental health struggles she cheered me up and gave me a reason to smile everyday. She truly was a great pet and i will be forever thankful for the knowledge i learnt because of her. I miss you Yue, I love you always my little moon spirit. Xx
A L B U S' S T O R Y:
Albus is my male Syrian hamster. I decided i wanted to adopt a hamster in February 2021. i wanted to have the expirience of owning a different species of hamster so i opted for a syrian as i already had my Russian dwarf hamster, "Yue" at the time. I found an hamster adpotion advert for him on Pets4Homes and he came home with me shortly after. His story before life with me is not a sad one. He was very loved by his previous family and they also advocated for great and correct hamster care. He is a cheeky boy, more of a shy hamster and is incredibly friendly and i am happy to share his life journey with all of the hamster community. Xx

Love the cage especially the little cactus hide definitely going to get myself one of those 😂. I can’t believe how fast ur channel has grown and i’ve been here from the start. I would suggest maybe getting a branch or a nice cork log to put in the centre other than that i can’t wait to se the lucky ham that gets to live in there

Wow! The cage looks very, very nice and well planned out, too! It looks super good, I like the natural colors. I never plan my cages so it takes me soooo long to set them up because I'm just constantly moving things around half the time lol. The cactus hide you have is so cute as well!!

This is an amazing setup!!! I would just maybe add some foraging toys (these can be made from cardboard easily) and maybe some more tunnels and tubes (cork logs are great) to make it just a bit more crouded :)

Are you gonna add some moss to the bendy bridge that goes from the deeper bedding area to the wheel area? There looks to be some pretty big gaps in that.

It looks wonderful 😍 please remove the grille and put the glas with Aquarium Silikon in the Wood. It is to dangerous for the Hamster. It can get stuck between the grille and the glass. In Germany it came to this very often and so we remove the grill.

This looked lovely! Can’t wait to see the new hamster! I am vaguely looking for a new hamster but there are not many available 😔. I would suggest a spider plant in there, they are safe for hamsters and really add a naturalistic vibe to the cage

@@TianiSimoneX I would not use a spider plant, they look amazing however when the spider plant grows babies, they are poisonous, and my one that wasn’t in snowys cage grew them, so I would stick to being safe. I don’t want to sound negative or anything, however I would just stick with using the parsley and the other plants you used before 💛🎃🍁

Yes I did know this, you have to be vigilant with them and snip any of the baby plants that grow I do find it easier to just ass parsley or basil and now have to worry aha x☺️

Hey, I just had two questions that 1) how much layer of plastikote did you put in your pawhut cage? 2) which cage should I get ikea detolf or the pawhut???🤔🤔

Hiya 👋🏽 plastikote I think I did 2 Coats on the pawhut. Cage wise I personally prefer the detolf but I think it depends on species for example if I was going to house a syrian hamster in the detolf I would want to build a raised lid so I could make sure I could add in more bedding. The pawhut is a great cage also but there’s things I both like and dislike about it ☺️

@@TianiSimoneX oh, Means you are getting a dwarf hamster.....and I think that you are getting a robovski dwarf(I am that sure, but I just think, because the quantity of sand you are putting looks like you are getting a robo hamster) but, whatever love you, your hamsters and your videos too...❤️❤️

The detolf is also unstable, easy to scratch and honestly is “cheap glass” ..it’s why I personally switched from the detolf to the Niteangel.

Unfortunately we’re not really able to get the niteangel cages here in the UK 😩 I find people have mixed opinions on the detolf but I’ve always found it great
