Yes exactly! What was the point of all this painting just to make it plain white?.
@ltellis639 жыл бұрын
The front pieces that make the whole project look like a built in would not match if everything were not painted with the same paint. It was also probably used in the rest of the room, thus creating a unified finish. You wouldn't get that otherwise.

KlewieLewie Doubtful to that. I bet you will pick up reading books later in life. Life before video games, 24hr entertainment, porn, and the internet one line news stories have made readers of books a rare experience in most houses, let alone poor empty bookcases.

@gorangytn89638 жыл бұрын
ikea has white ones, too :) you just have to paint the back part and add front pieces. But at the end, it is not look like built-in. Just an ordinary wide bookshelf, when with side and upper blanks...

Tip for future videos, try sound of any kind and shorten the paint scenes, just speeding them up does not stop them being long boring parts of the video. Good idea and a nice result though.

antiall Yeah, now they have colored backs too. But another thing I wouldn't have done is butt it up against the window and block it.
@raylinhlaalu7247 жыл бұрын
1. Buying white shelves and cheaper than the wood ones. 2. Paint the back walls in desired colors. 3. Build up ONE shelf and decide which holes to block. 4. Cover unused holes in the side panels of all Billys. 5. Paint all INSIDE walls in desired color now that everything is reachable. 6. Build up all Billys and arrange them from wall to window. 7. Add the "build in" parts and secure The whole thing at the wall. Done. Saved you min. 4 more steps.
@aanon57166 жыл бұрын
i agree about blocking the window. thats a pet peeve of mine. it ruins the whole flow of the room for me & then you also know its not an original built in & it looks all crowded in. you could have used the one narrow bookcase on the connecting wall. ive seen that done & it still looks all connected & your window wouldnt be blocked. i dont even like tvs placed in front of windows, part of a dresser, etc...lol.

He didn't buy the white billy because he would have had to paint them white anyway because he patched the extra shelf holes. It's easier to paint the pine ones verses the white ones because of the material the colored ones are made from : )

This is helpful. I now know not to buy something at Ikea and casually say 'I can make it look built in" - because I 1) wont get the width I need to fill the entire wall, thus leaving a gap that makes anyone realize its not built in 2) I'd paint the veneer the color of the wall, and see it chip off later 3) the $150 more I'd spend on clear pine and maple would have smelled, finished, fit better and saved me a week to go setup a lemonade stand and make enough money to pay for the difference.

Can someone explain why he made this flush left blocking some of the window versus flush right with the wall? At some point in time cleaning the window, switching out the blinds, adding curtains will be hindered by this set up...it doesn't appear they had any special use for that little bit of wall...TIA

+ShiningStar77 Matching a wood veneer with some wood parts you add is simpler than matching your new parts to the white surface ikea creates. For white furniture ikea uses either no wood veneer.
