The SF Doomloop is not about drugs. It' a narrative that describes a cyclical pattern of economic decline and renewal in the city. Most of the office vacancies in SF's downtown is due to the rise of remote work and COVID, NOT DRUGS.

Understandable, but as an employee I'd rather not have to tip-toe through tent cities and syringes every day just to earn my salary.
@Mike__B4 ай бұрын
@@akasta And that is 100% understandable and no one should ever have to give you crap about it, however the narrative that there are tent cities everywhere in the area and needles pointing in every which direction is very much largely over blown, aka lied about. Yes homelessness is visible on the streets, yes you will see people who in a drug induced waking coma, but most of these places you can walk on the sidewalks and not see a single tent. Are there tent areas? Yeah, but not where people normally go to work, these areas where the "Doom loop" stuff is talked about, not really at all.

I live in Seattle where our downtown was hit hard by the pandemic and remote work. Recently, city and county government workers have been required to return to in-person work along with Amazon employees, many of whom work downtown. The influx of workers who buy lunch and go shopping on their breaks has made a tremendous difference, even if some of the employees cried and threw tantrums.

I had no idea. The "Mid-Market" area is an enclave that honestly, we're not very familiar with. Although, we have no reason to visit an IKEA, it's nice to see some "lively" retail coming back. Plant based food doesn't scare me 🤨Thanks again! 🥤

I don't know if I'd recommend it as a standalone trip from Sac. But if you're in the area it's worth at least a walk through. Though to your point. Not a ton of reason to be in the area.

Interesting. Ikea retail offerings like this are the common theme here across Europe, there is always the restaurant, then the market hall, and a combined foodstuffs bar and 'supermarket' after the registers, so essentially a POS at every step of the way. Stockholm has a new Ikea downtown that also surprised me a lot with its low prices and varied offerings, it was a much more condensed version of the traditional layout combined into one bar; super convenient for a lunch break or when you happen to be around. Its prices are also much lower compared to continental Europe, where you'll pay around double to triple the price for the same items, especially snacks and drinks. I like meat and stick to its taste, but my friend also told me that their plant-based offerings are not too bad, he accidentally ordered vegetarian meatballs, but was able to tell by the stronger spices later on. Always interesting to see how things we are used to differ in other places :)
@AdamDoesNotExist4 ай бұрын
Seems like they're adapting their massive stores more for cities. It's really interesting that prices are actually lower in the city. San Francisco and Stockholm are not known for being cheap!

I used to go to Moscone Center every year for the SF Auto Show but stopped when Covid happened. I have no desire to go back because the area had gotten so bad.

FYI Saluhall originally was supposed to be 80% plant based not 100% and it’s now just “plant forward” not 100% plant based as you thought. Good to see you like it though. I’ve heard good reviews. Sad I don’t live in SF anymore (Switzerland) - but I’ll be back in a few years,

Doom loop pertains to the office buildings and commercial spaces which affects that specific part of the City’s financial district. That area I do not see ever recovering fully because it’s a drag to commute there. I think tourists are better off going anywhere else. What’re you gonna do? People rather work at home and shop online. Go see all the other many gorgeous things in the City. And of course an IKEA is not on that list.❤

Lived in SF and east bay for almost 20 years, now in NYC and drop-dead horrified what I see in some doom loop Bay Area videos on KZbin. What’s really going on? It’s hard to know the real story without spending a few days there. Some of these areas look pretty bad, but it doesn’t look like it’s beyond redemption (but Oakland is looking tougher by the minute). And I’m glad to see the traction building on your channel, best part are the b-roll little random unscripted comments. :)
@AdamDoesNotExist7 ай бұрын
Glad you like those! I've been unsure about including them. It really is tough to know what's real and what's not in SF. The area around mid market an union square feels like it's still in pretty bad shape. Downtown apparently has an impeding commercial real estate crisis. But as soon as you get into the neighborhoods, everything feels great.
@aliasmjm7 ай бұрын
Yeah downtown is a little more quiet these days (honestly not horrific or anything crazy like that), but the rest of city is fine. Nothing at all like the weird Armageddon that is portrayed on social media for clout. I have to admit that going around Union square now isn’t as fun as it was before the pandemic, but i hate reading doomsday comments from people who watch Tenderloin footage (duh, it can be sketchy there and has always been) from hundreds of miles away and spew hate just to spew hate. I think the city took a hard blow these last couple years, but I can see it coming back up.

Plant based noodles... aren't noodles by definition plant based? That said, San Francisco has become so anti-car that going here to actually do some Ikea shopping, is not something I'm likely to do, not that the Ikea there has much in the way of stuff like other stores but that's part of the point of Ikea, the cheap hot dogs or the food court are nice but they aren't what draw me to Ikea, I need an inexpensive but still kind of nice looking end table, or book shelf, or whatever, then I'm hopping in my car and driving to Palo Alto.
@abhikahuja37733 ай бұрын
it's more so that the entire dish is plant based not just the noodles themselves. wrt anti car i do wish this ikea had more furniture i could pick up but its still a godsend for ppl like me who live in the city without a car. i get to check out furniture, pick up some smaller things, and get the bigger items delivered if I like anything

Is the phrase 'plant-based' a misnomer or what? A phrase like that could logically mean that something is mostly from plant sources yet also contains something from animal sources. Whatever happened to the word 'vegetarian'? Is it not politically correct enough? That's sure what it seems like! Also you can make something entirely from non-animal sources, but if it contains bioengineered ingredients, you might be better off eating raw meat!
