I got a used IKEA STORA bed on Craigslist in NYC and then sent your video to a handyman who came and stabilized using the same method as you. Thanks so much for sharing! You have made an NYC apartment dweller very happy (me).

These spice racks are a GAME CHANGER! I’ve watched/read now several hours of information on loft beds and stabilizing/securing/diy/etc. This video is by far the most aesthetically pleasing and sturdy setup I’ve seen. The mixed wood stains/colors also play off one another very nicely. Amazing result, and thank you for this complete guide in

Amazing!!! So happy that I found your video here. I bought this second hand to save space in my room and was about to scrap the idea because of its wobbliness (I'm not allowed to drill holes into wall to fixate it). I'd like to try out your options before I abandon the idea. I also LOVE the short side braces that you made - I was thinking of getting really long wood panels that would have to stretch across the complete diagonal length of the long side, making it super long, but your solution was much more convenient and super cute with the lights! So grateful for the inspiration, thank you!!

This is such a nice video! Got the stora bed last week for my studio apartment and I’m thinking that the ikea ekby valter brackets would work so nice as well to secure it a bit more! Might actually try that out! Also the spice rackets, the headboard and extra beams is such a good idea! Definitely adding these as well !

Does the wooden leg go all the way down on the open side? I see that it only goes halfway down on the closed side, but I can't tell if it goes all the way down or not on the open side because the couch was blocking it. Also, I see why you added the Ikea plastic holders on the long open side, as the wooden corner beams would block the way, but any reason why you didn't add wooden beams on the opposite short end (where your legs end up)? Would really appreciate it!

Hey Kos! Do you know if this bed can support two adults? (Approx. 160kgs in total, excluding mattress and pillows etc.) Thanks!
@koswork6 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark Before I made any modifications to it, IKEA states that it can support up to 180kg. but it felt a bit wobbly to us. With the extra support I used it feels solid now and it hardly moves when me and my gf are in bed and we are a combined weight of 185kg. I think it would easily hold 200kg.

For the long pieces of wood that you used to support the sideboard, do they go all the way down to the floor? Also, how did you install the corner braces?
@koswork5 жыл бұрын
Yes they do go all the way down to the ground. I just cut both ends of the corner braces in a 45 degree angle and used a long steel screw on either end to fix them in place.

A question please: You mentioned that you screwed all the slats to the additional long beams that you added. Do you think it was necessary? I felt that it was a lot of screwing necessary and thought the beams themselves, when bolted down on the ends in place, would hold the slats already. What are your feels to this?
@koswork5 жыл бұрын
Hi It wasn't really necessary but it did feel like it made the whole structure feel a lot more solid, especially when it has to support two adults with a combined weight of nearly 200kg every night.
