When I started crochet, I assumed that granny squares would be the easiest thing to make, but one week in I’ve made three scarves, two key chains, two tapestries, and one crop top. Granny squares are harder than I thought they’d be. Same with making a flat, 2D, circle.

What’s really helped me with hand pain when doing yarn work is wearing compression gloves (And a wrist brace on my dominant hand when crocheting because the asymmetry really messed with my joints), taking regular breaks every 40 min at least and stretching for about 5 min during each break!

Oop ok I didn’t get far enough into the vid to see you got gloves! I’m really glad they helped ♥️

get the arthritis gloves for your hands and if you can just take a couple days off, coz for me when I don't take enough break I have shooting pain up my entire arm.

Your random comment about weighted blanket from various squares gave me another idea - you can make just two squares and put inside some fillers or some heavy fabric or like cut an old warm blanket, and sew it inside two squares, then make a lot of those and you will get kinda quilted puffy weighted blanket.

I don't usually make suggestions right as the video has started, but I just discovered crocodile stitch and I can't remember you using it, so I wanna give it a shoutout. Anyways, I'm joining you on a stash-busting quest. Beautiful blankets! I have some leftover light and dark purple yarn that I might use to copy that spiral idea.

I’m so happy the compression gloves helped!

Sometimes your hands just can't knit and crochet for as long for a bit. Either your arms cramp, your fingers feel weak or a certain spot gets too sensitive for yarn to touch. It's important to work a little less during these times and your body will recover. Or work slower. Unrelated but when you showed those green and brown balls to the camera my brain just went "wait??? Is Ikoxun a tiny person or are those just giant yarnballs?"

I like seeing the timelapse of planning the colors for the blanket c: i should probably plan out colors in my drawing app more often for projects

I might make this with all the yarn I have left. I want to make new projects and buy new yarn, but wanted to get rid of my current supply. Literally starting tonight!

I found a pattern today that I might use for my scrap worsted weight yarns. Its got three granny squares in the middle, some rounds of double crochet around that and then a border of granny squares around that. Feels like a good “make over time” blanket” i dont buy new yarns often so i dont have much scraps

One thing i do for breaks regularly is throw on an album and when its over or 2-3 songs from being over i stretch for 2-3 songs / up to around 15min! Doing that feels way more natural than having to pause because I hit a timer. Im sure if youre listening to a book you could see when its like 10 minutes left to a chapter and do the same

I had to stopped crocheting for a month once because I hurt my wrist trying to crochet Halloween plushies as fast as possible 🤦🏽♀️. But I do recommend doing gentle wrist and hand stretches before & after crocheting hopefully that’ll help with the pain. & take as many breaks as needed your health is always more important !

3:27 I have the same issue sometimes, usually I find that the position I’m in just doesn’t work with me. Like crocheting or knitting while laying down hurts me, or sometimes you just find a position and it doesn’t work, as least that’s how it is for me, lol

y'all, I can NOT do granny squares for the life of me. I've tried like 4-5 times (2 different types). So yesterday I tried tapestry, it wasn't exactly a fail but it wasn't clean cut. Any tips for either?
