FUN FACT ABOUT THE XIV: The RAF couldn't find enough enemy aircraft to attack, so they deliberately went over France at about 12,000 feet, looking like sitting ducks, tempting the Luftwaffe to attack them. The XIV was superior to the 109 and the 190 at every altitude, but particularly at 12,000 feet and below. Aircraft attacked from behind will always tend to break in the direction favoured by the airscrew's rotation. Attacking fighters would know and anticipate this, but the Griffon rotated in the opposite direction. By '44, allied aircrew tended to have better training and more hours in cockpit than their enemies. So the sitting ducks were actually predators, not prey. The early 109's and Spitfires were fundamentally different types of fighter...the 109 an energy boom-and-zoom, the Spit a maneuvering dogfighter. As power levels and weights grew during the wartime development, the Spit gained the vertical edge over the 109 without losing its manuevering advantage.

Nice pilot respect with the wingtip a little after 6:20. This is _the_ best WWII (and WW1) flight sim and goddamn I miss it. Time to get back in. Still haven't played on the normandy map.

The only limitation to its ability to fight is the stamina of the pilot. It's a beast. It still has the maneuverability of other Spitfires but also has much better speed.

The planes are being developed at the moment. The map and campaign are not complete and probably won't be until next year.

The fighter version of the Mosquito is in development for the Battle of Normandy expansion. Heavy Strategic bombers are not planned at the moment but that may change in the future.

The grass on that airfield is so long the aircraft should never have been able to reach takeoff speed before they reached the airfield perimeter.

Great graphics but surely they could have done something to make the engine noise more authentic? The RR Griffon makes a beautiful powerful unique sound not this lawnmower rattle!

I cringe when players keep shooting planes that arent in the fight any longer. That 109 was touching down as you put rounds into it, and then circle round for a salute as he lay dead in the cockpit...
