This documentary was filmed back in 2015 by director Andrei Samoteikin, but did not reach wide audiences for many different reasons. We have restored the video image and today we can proudly present the film for your viewing pleasure.
Serious Games is a unique opportunity to witness the state of the game 8 years ago, meet the development team, and hear their stories.

I seem to recall the early days when il2 was still in development, and Oleg would reply by email. I thought that was fantastic of him. It's just outstanding, the history and evolution of that series. Forever grateful.

"Once you lose the thread, it's hard to get it back in the needle". A wise expression from an intelligent man. My first experience with a flight sim was Microprose's 1942. Then my father bought Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator. Once the IL-2 games came out, they were absolutely mind blowing to me. Now at 38 years old I am still often spending time in IL-2. Thank you to everyone who has been involved over the years!

Started playing this game almost on the day of release, and still play it to this day, (although not as much anymore!). And I've made friends along the way, many of whom I've met at air shows, and even now over 20 years later we still meet up! The game has made such an impact on my life.... So to all the devs over the years and Oleg, many thanks to you all.

Il-2 must be the greatest military flight simulation of all time and I can’t wait for the release of IL-2 Dieppe release in 2024 Thank you to the teams of Il-2 we need more people like you.

I still remember the very first IL-2 demo with the P-39. What a feeling, what an advancement! Thank you for everything, Oleg. I remember too at that time to have exchanged some mails with you about some documentation, it was fun times.

I look forward to part 2 very much. I spent many sleepless nights playing IL2 and enjoying every minute of it. Fighting for my life in the sky. Thank you Oleg for those hours. I will never forget them. Bless you.

Kudos to all of your team past and present. This game as entertained me for the last 20 years or so (and still does in VR) Irrespective of you being from Russia you are gamers like us and love aviation. May you continue on your present path and keep this the best 2nd world War flight SIM in the world.

Thank you, Oleg Maddox, for all the time, effort and skill you put in to producing those wonderful flight sim’s - sim’s that gave so many people so much entertainment and pleasure. Even being judged against the current sim’s, I regard your “Cliffs of Dover” as having the best graphics -especially those cockpit interiors!

Awesome to see Oleg again! I remember the first time I read about the original Il-2 Demo in PC Gamer when I was a kid. I was young enough that I didn't really know anything about the Soviet Union in WWII, or really much at all. It helped grow an already strong interest in WWII and aviation even more. I learned Photoshop from the game, hoping to make skins, and ended up having a game that I've been playing in various iterations since the original demo first hit my computer back in 2000 or whenever it came out. Thanks Oleg, and the team currently keeping the Il-2 Sturmovik dream alive!

Doing what many devs never dared to do, thank you for making IL-2 Sturmovik, the true one and only WWII air combat simulator, a project that we'll probably never see again from anyone else.

Thank you 1CGS for all the dedication and hard work you have put into your IL2. I dreamed of having a game like the great battle series when i was a kid 15 years ago. Thanks to hardware improvements and the amazing talent of your team, you guys made that dream a reality.

I start playing IL2 at the biggining i think it was in 1999 at IL 2 only then forgothen battle and pacific fighter came out and other add on as ostfront , fallow the il2 community religiousely , then became a Skinner and a modder when the il2 code was breaked later i fallow to cliff of dover and great battle game , but i always preffer keep playing the old original Il2 full mod as SAS community on BAT , today i still play this game originall il2 mod , one of the best game ever made as you can creat everything you want in it Thank you Oleg team

Usually when i see developers having flight sticks on their tables sim has good flight model. And when i see gamepads it is always a struggle for them. One has to wonder.... :-) Thank you for great simulator and documentary.

Very nice documentary, but the first flight sim footage is from Cliffs of Dover while Oleg is talking about the original Il-2. That is quite confusing.

I played the demo by accident... it was awesome... then played through all the series with my squadron! CoD unfortunately... Now we have DCS, IL2-GB and some... Warthunder... eww.. :D (played that too for a while... hoping... lost it...)

I beta tested for the first IL-2 game. Back then beta testing wasn't called early access.

There is nothing wrong with what we have. Let's add "Heavys" from Italy (15th USAAF) before Korea. Those Alpine views would be breathtaking along with Red Tails, 262s, B17 and B24S!

i think il2 sturmovik birds of prey on ps3 was the best and most refined. only one i played besides birds of steel, safe to say i didnt get another. ps3 controller is a must for me too. an improvement would be to be made softer not sharp, like you see otherwise (not in-game) and included modern fighters eurofighter, f16, mig, probably would have never heard of dcs, if they did tht in the time of ps3. intresting airports, missions ..like fsx.
