IL2 and DCS in VR transcend flight simulators for me.. when youre cranking your neck around as you come over the top of a loop and your brain fills in that second of vertigo as you imagine that moment of weightlessness.. gives me chills lol

It’s incredible the advancement of computer graphics and VR has made it possible to simulate the experience of WW2 pilots to this majestic degree, in a few more years they’ll be able to make movies about the Battle of Britain using these games for the aerial battle footage

@@philtherhythm Just had a look at it. I'm not too impressed with the look of it tbh. Looks more like a computer game than a movie, the colours are horribly unrealistic too. A war movie, especially one based in Stalingrad should look bleak and unsaturated. Instead, it looks like they've ramped the saturation up to 200%!

ATAG_Flare it’s pretty amazing. Once you get past the screen-dooring effect of the Oculus’s rez, it feels like you’re really there. I had this awesome experience where I shot a wing off an enemy plane, it came flying towards me, and hit and ripped off my canopy. I almost ducked under my desk.

Question from a newbie to VR.. Are the functions on trackIr, such as zoom, check six, gunsight view, able to be used in any way in VR????

I haven't played with TrackIR that extensively so I can't give you a direct comparison, but there's definitely a 'VR Zoom' option when using Oculus. Check six is done by craining around your neck around :) Viewing the gunsight is weird and kind of cool at the same time . . . . you have to place your 'dominant eye' behind the site. It's jarring at first, but you get used to it.

Well technically, I played in VR and recorded the flight using the in game flight recorder, and played that back in 2D and recorded using Shadowplay. But all in all, I dunno :) It’s the standard Ultra settings, and I’m playing the ‘Scramble’ single player mission. It may just be a well designed mission.

Used to play the original IL2 sturmovich on the VEF decades ago. Such a great simulator. Always fun doing the boom n zoom on I-16's with the 109's. The only negative was back then with maximum realism turned on the VEF only about 2 of 8, 109's would actually make it off the runway.

HOW TO RECORD LIKE I DID, SINCE A LOT OF PEOPLE ASK: Use the in game recorder (Ctrl-R) to record while playing in VR. When you’re done, switch over to non-VR, play the recorded track in game and use shadowplay or the likes to record that. The game has a time limit now on in-game recordings, I don’t know how long, but it seems like something they patched in.

Was wondering if anyone knew how to smooth out the VR replay. Every time I go back to view my flight replay, it's almost exact headset movement which is very shaky. Are there certain settings I should use? Or maybe software to install? I play on the index and have the game on steam.

I must say good sir, you are one heck of a pilot. My best life in that game was nailing down a whole bomber squadron and their escorts. (18 planes total.) With just me and my friend in Yak-9T's. But still, that was very well done!

I think everything is close to medium on a 1080 at the time. Also keep in mind that I’m playing my flight through the in-game flight recorder, and then recording via Shadowplay.

I switched back to using my monitor because . . . my neck hurts using VR :) I think there's a plug-in you can use that offsets the VR when you go to check 6, so you don't have to turn around so much. I don't know that name of it, but check on the official IL2 forums, I think it's in the 'Hardware' section if I'm not mistaken.

Hmmm a 1080 at the time, I think I was getting in the 120s. Try changing your screen res to as low as you can when playing in VR, it’s totally independent from the VR res.

Ju-87 Stuka it’s pretty realistic, but you can customize the flight model to make it a little more forgiving.

GizmoMaltese I’m cheating a bit. What you see above is played through the in game track player and recorded via Shadowplay. I️ usually have it set to ‘ultra.’ If I️’m playing through the Rift, I️ lower the in-game res to 800x600, since the Rift has its own native res. And I️ think I’m using a 1.5 pixel density.

Of course, I know you're not playing on the Rift seeing that resolution (I can't wait for the day that's possible). I'm also using 1.5 pixel density, no AA but I leave in game res at 1920x1080. Does lower it make a significant difference?

Rodrigo Martin ah what I did here was save my session with the in-game recorder, and then play it back through the in game ‘track player’ and record via shadowplay. This is actually how I played in VR, but with shiny graphics. If you like flight sims, to me it’s a must buy. I think it’s on sale on steam as well right now. Plus the MP is amazing.

I’m using every single button on my flight stick now for all the controls that were usually keyboard based. You soon get used to it and I feel for certain buttons on the keyboard blind haha. If you’re used to playing on ultra settings then you’ll notice the drop in quality but the immersion soon makes you not notice it.

Lissander Knight I use Thrustmaster T.16000 controllers . . . That’s a flight stick, throttle, and rudders, plus several levers for radiator controls. It’s really immersive, I can’t wait for my Vive Pro to get here :)

I found out in DCS when I change the pupil distance setting that changes. So you could make it appear super small or super big. So you probably have to mess with that setting that changes your pupil distance. I'm not sure how it's called in the odyssey headset and how you have to change that there.

Are these images what you really see in VR or is it a recording of the monitor view. In my experience friendly and enemy planes look sharp on a (2D) monitor but blurry when flying with a (3D) VR. The images are so blurry I can't even recognize a Stuka except when I fly next to it. The instrument panel however is crisp and clear.

hi im looking at getting a vr hedset for il-2 but my only worry is id like to play online with no markers and that then means that it will be harder to spot you didnt use markers and id like some advise on if it is really very hard to spot planes

Eamon Kerney online may be a bit tricky, I have a Vive Pro and still have trouble picking out distant targets, but it’s definitely playable. I’ll tell you this though, it’s totally worth it for the experience, this is the best game I’ve played in VR. I can’t play it anymore using my trackIR.

Glad to say that after all this time I have decided to get a vr headset right now I'm sing a Samsung odyssey because give pro wasn't in stock I haven't tried il 2 yet but in other games I can see what you were talking about being at a disadvantage but still having a great Tim Tldr thanks :D

longbowdt very :) I don’t use it for MP, as spotting is a problem as well. The resolution just isn’t there yet.

@@201_Gaming thanks for the quick reply. I imagine a reclined position might be more comfortable, but I don't know that for certain. Maybe a PIMAX 5k or 8K? I've seen You Tube videos of BoS flown with those two head sets. But a killer GPU is required.

The big problem is that it’s 1:1 motion, your neck begins to hurt after a while from all the turning around :)

24 inch monitor and maxed settings with Track IR don't cut it for me sadly, I cant see the dots so its hard to get into position for a merge. Love the game though and I'm 700 + hours in 'training' finished some of the campaigns before I got track IR but my inability to see the dots at distance gets me killed … Solution either get a bigger monitor or VR headset. I'm still on the fence over either solution. But I keep messing and love it.

I see only two options atm 34LG ultrawide 144hz which i can get for 400 dollars right now or Oculus. Ultrawide avarage fps 80 on VR 40. with gtx 970/i7 4790k

@@TheFuggi123 Couple of weeks ago I grabbed a 32inch 2k monitor, love the extra real estate onscreen. Now I can see the distant dots and I been toying abit online. In mean time I keep on practicing.

@@TheFuggi123 Im running a 6gb 1060 with a Ryzen 5 2600x. 16GB of 3200mhz Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR 4 RAM and a b450 Arous elite motherboard. The game is as maxxed out as I can get it and the sim runs butter smooth.
